Using the power of his hormones, assisted by his granddaughter Judy Hormone That just sounds so wrong. So no costume, just the adventures of a crusading mad scientist? The Five Fleamen? Oh yeah, this strip has possibilities.

If Funnyman or Fantomah is in the book, it will be revealed tomorrow. Trying to keep some semblance of suspense here. All this Squirrel Girl talk and there'll be nothing to say about her when her turn finally comes up Oh, don't worry. I'm sure I'll find something to say.

I'd never heard of this guy until Marvel resurrected him for The Twelve a few years ago,, but for some reason he really made an impression on me. I wish they'd bring him back. Likewise. Rockman and (the original) Black Widow both made a big impression on me from their appearance in The Twelve. And the Twelve basically took everything worthwhile or cool about the characters in order to square peg them into shitty Watchmen fanfiction. But, yeah, I freakin' love the Golden Age appearances of both. P. S. Good thread. I was gonna make this thread!

How can you own a character called Claire Voyant and not use her?

Much more detail and photos are included in the actual League Of Regrettable Superheroes book. I encourage all to check it out
The Face -Created by Mart Bailey/Gardner Fox & Vince Sullivan 1st appearance Big Shot Comics (Columbia Comics) #1 May 1940
Maybe this is where The Eye originated? But maybe not. Tony Trent dons a green goblin face mask to fight crime. Hoodlums either faint at the sight of him or they are so startled that Tony gets the first slug in. That's the extent of his ability besides nice evening attire. Somehow this feature ran for many years. After WWII Tony dropped the fright mask and just became plain Tony Trent .
Fantomah-Created by Fletcher Hanks 1st appearance Jungle Comics (Fiction House) # 2 Feb 1940
Hoosier X seems to be our resident Fantomah expert so any further details will be left to him. From what I've seen its completely wacked
Funnyman-Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster 1st appearance Funnyman (Magazine Enterprises) #1 Jan 1948
S&S initiated a lawsuit against DC for their share of the huge sums of money Superman was generating from merchandising. They knew they wouldn't get work from that publisher for much longer and therefore needed a new property from a new publisher. Funnyman was born, armed with an arsenal of classic gaga from hand buzzers to squirting flowers and donned a putty nose. S&S made sure their name appeared on all the covers as well as the 1st page of each story. We won't get fooled again. However when S&S lost their lawsuit, it must have affected their Funnybone and the book disappeared. Not as though it was a huge seller. Supposedly Richard Belzer obtained the rights to the character and was proposing a Funnyman movie during the 1990s.
Ghost Patrol-Created by Ted Udall, Emmanuel Demby & Frank Harry 1st appearance Flash Comics (National) #29 May 1942
3 guys join the foreign legion and are dismayed when Germany defeats France and the foreign legion converts to a tool for the Nazis. The trio then get blown up due to sabotage. Unexplainably, their ghosts come back to befuddle the goose steppers. They can fly, turn solid, turn to smoke and control weather. For dead fellows, they seem to have lots of fun. Their adventures continued after the war was over, fighting crime up to 1949. After, they might have began to appear on the Topper TV show
Invisible Scarlett O'Neil- Created by Russell Stamm 1st appearance Chicago Times June 3, 1940
Debuting as a newspaper strip, this early heroine pre-dated Wonder Woman. Fooling around in her scientist father's lab, she accidentally gets the ability to turn invisible when she touches her wrist. Soon after she earned her own comic book from Harvey. Her adventures were advertised as having no violence. In 1950, the invisible schtick disappeared as well and lasted just one more year
The Iron Skull- Created by Carl Burgos 1st appearance Amazing Man (Centaur) Sept 1939
A soldier gets badly wounded and is augmented with metal body parts. Back then it cost substantially less than 6 million bucks. Most importantly was his steel head that he used to batter his way through walls and doors and whatever. Later on he donned a superhero costume. The Iron Skull's adventures initially took place in the 1970s. The future was depicted very inconsistently and was soon forgotten. At times he could mentally communicate with the police but essentially he just liked to smash his head against hard objects

I found a write-up of the second-best Fantomah story. Here is the link Fantomah vs. the Weird Gorillas . There's a panel in this story that should be in the Top Ten Comic Book Panels Museum right next to The Hulk dressed as a clown juggling a horse, an elephant and a seal. I couldn't find the panel by itself on the Internet, but it's included in the art provided on the link. Here's a random Fantomah panel: As for the very best Fantomah story, maybe I'll write it up over the weekend.

Marvel actually made Torpedo really interesting under Fabian Nicenza with New Warriors.. that was when the Mushashis were taking turns using the suit.
I like how 'Espionage' on the cover there switches his Monocle from one eye to the other from one issue to the next.

Just 'N' Right-Created by George Brenner 1st appearance Doll Man (Quality) #1 1941
Lumberjack Justin Wright assumes the name of Just 'N' Right (they'll never figure his secret ID) to fight crime. An orhan, he finds a box of mementos from his late mother. Inside is a scarf. On one side you can see through it, the other side is opaque. That's good enough to fight crime with. Wearing Mommy's scarf, he breaks up a criminal gang. That was his first and only case. Its rumored that Mommy's lingerie was in the box too and unfortunately we never found out what happened next
Kangaroo Man-Created by S.M. Iger and Chuck Winters 1st appearance Choice Comics (Great Comics Publishing) #1 Dec 1941
Jack Brian brings his Australian kangaroo Bingo back to the states. Bingo has highly intelligent thought balloons, is a master fighter, can drive a motor bike and is really the star of this strip. Bingo needs to be inducted into the Legion Of Super Pets
Kid Eternity-Created by Otto Binder and Sheldon Moldoff 1st appearance Hit Comics (Quality) #25 Dec 1942
Another entry that I think is questionable amongst the rest. Kid Eternity is a victim of a celestial error when he dies before his time. To right this wrong, he is sent back to earth with the ability of calling forth historical people from the past. The celestial clerk responsible for the error is assigned to help him. Kid Eternity was a long running feature both in Hit Comics as well as his own title. It is a bit wonky that he was able tom summon mythological figures that never really existed like Paul Bunyan. He even summoned fellow Quality Comics star Blackhawk for an adventure. Kid Eternity was revived for a Vertigo series that I never had an opportunity to read
Lady Satan- Created by George Tuska 1st appearance Dynamic Comics (Harry A Chesler ) #1 Dec 1941
Sole survivor of an Atlantic passenger ship sunk by the Nazis. Vowing revenge she dons an evening dress and domino mask. She brings along a handgun, knives, and chlorine gas. She disappears for awhile and then she retuns in the mid-1940s looking the same but now conversant in the arts of Black Magic. You don't want to fool around with Lady Satan
Mad Hatter-Created By Bill Woolfolk and Mort Leav 1st appearance Mad Hatter (O.W.Comics Corp) #1 Jan/Feb 1946
"A new kind of comic magazine" said the masthead on his first issue. Absolutely not. A blond haired crimefighter with a bulge in his shorts letting you know how excited he was to get his own comic. He had a chest emblum with a top hat. However there was nothing about him that had anything to do with hats. Didn't even wear one. For some reason he spoke in rhyme but only to gangsters.

I don't find Kid Eternity regrettable at all. It was a popular feature and has an interesting premise. It may not have always been executed to its fullest, but it's definitely got potential.

I feel the same way about Doll Man. I don't think there's anything wrong with the character, who managed to succeed with the "getting small" act better than any other similar character, including Silver Age Atom. Perhaps his name wasn't as good as the Atom's, but it could have been worse-- Did "Minimidget" get in there?
