Did anyone see this last night?
While there is room for improvement, I must say I enjoyed the show. To me, it reminded me a bit of awkward Clark Kent at the Daily Planet except this time it is Kara hiding behind glasses and awkward. Cat Grant fills the Perry White role and of course there is Jimmy Olsen on hand. It was good to see Dean Cain and Helen Slater. Hope they appear more. The angle with Kara's step sister is interesting working for the government. Also the introduction of the Phantom Zone villains and Kara's not so nice other relative.
One thing I didn't get.....So, Superman has not been in touch with Kara since he left her with the Danvers? Was this so she would choose her own path and not feel like she had to follow in his steps? She seemed to get very happy when Jimmy told her that Superman was proud of her and sent her the blanket for her cape.
I did enjoy the scene with Kara saving the plane and seeing her in the costume. The dark headed young man that helped her with the costume was funny...kind of like Kara's "Lois Lane" but different.
Overall I would give the show a 6.5/7 out of 10. I am going to tune in and see what happens next. Off to a good start, will be fun to see where this goes. I do hope Superman appears.

My wife and I watched it. It was enjoyable and entertaining, but nothing spectacular. I liked the way they handled Superman in the beginning and I thought it was an ok start, but it could very much fall into the monster of the week formula that has plagued a lot of shows of this ilk if they are not careful. I'll check out a few more episodes before deciding if I am in longterm.

I thought it was a solid start and I enjoyed Kara, Jimmy and Cat. It seemed very much a Superman show with Kara already being all grown up and the workplace setting, but I'm fine with that. The costume looked good and the action was fine. I'll certainly be back to see if this show can give Flash a run for his money as my favorite current DC show.
Ratings wise, the show got off to a very good start as it tied with Blindspot for the best debut of the season. It will have it's first showdown with Gotham at 7pm CST next Monday.

It will have it's first showdown with Gotham at 7pm CST next Monday. That's unfortunate: 2 DC shows competing. If only 1 was an hour later...

It was ok. About average or just below average for such a shows pilot at this point. It loses points because it was rather unoriginal and predictable. There were things to like but nothing really fantastic. The best thing about it imo was the star. She was quite likeable and did a good job and looked great. I wasnt expecting to be impressed by her but I tjouhht she was adorable and charismatic. I'll watch it again but not dying to, nor would I jump through any hoops to to seek it out. I also don't think Id skip any of the other comic shows for this if I had to. Except maybe Constantine which is moot.

Well I gave up on Gotham about 2/3 of the way through last season, I just lost interest. I DVRed the rest of the season, but the new season started and I had yet to watch any of the new episodes, so I just bailed on it, so there would be no potential conflict between them for me, however DVR makes the point moot (as does things like Hulu and CBS on demand) so the only conflict is for people living in the 20th century who didn't have a technological means of watching two shows on at the same time.

I saw the show off of my DVR just now and I consider it a pretty decent show and I do like Cat Grant and I'm having a hard time accepting a black James Olsen and having said that - I need to watch 2-3 shows more before I've make my final say on Mehcad Brooks portrayal of James Olsen here.
Melissa Benoist the star of the Show is okay, she a newcomer and did an average to above average job of acting as the Maid of Steel and has some good enthusiasm to the show and she would do an admirable job as the series progresses. Looking at IMDb the show is scheduled to do 13 shows and contracted for. If the Series hold it's own after 5 to 6 shows - it could survive a first season. Knowing both Arrow and the Flash; this show lacks star power and that's could hurt them in a big way. I can see a 2nd Season, maybe not a 3rd.
Right Now, I give this show out of Ten - a 6.5

And since Jimmy Olsen started as a voice on the radio and was only later interpreted to be white in the comics (it was radio no one could see the actor/character), does it really matter what color his character is? -M

The only exposure of Callista Flockhart is Ally McBeal (ran from 1997 to 2002) and I did not even cared for it. I watched the 1st Season and that's was it. I'm not a Flockhart fan - but she did a good job as Cat. She is the only recognizable person out of a sea of many unknown actors and actresses that I'm having a hard time accepting it as a good show or not. That's all I have for now!

I enjoyed it. There was a bit too much going on for a single episode -- I think it could easily have been two episodes. But Melissa Benoist is great casting and brings an endearing nerd quality to the character that is just right.

CW's Barry Allen) was also a veteran of Glee (though he played a minor villain who had a recurring role in a handful of episodes, not one of the leads) and the lead writer for the series was Roberoto Aguire-Sacasa who has written for Marvel (a MK version of FF) and currently writes for Archie (Afterlife with Archie, the current Sabrina series) and is attached to the Riverdale tv project. I was not a fan, but my wife watched it regularly, and it was quite popular, critically acclaimed and influential in determining a lot of radio stations playlists who would dredge up long dormant songs resurrected for the show to get regular airplay. It was quite popular in the 18-34 demographic that networks (and their advertising sponsors) drool over, and was a bit of a pop culture phenomenon, so being on Glee pretty much made you a household name. And though a decade old, Flockhart's time on Ally MacBeal made her better known to general audiences than anyone cast than just about any regular on a DC TV series, particularly the WB shows. -M

I think if there were more female superheroes represented on tv or in the movies the reception for this would be 'meh' across the board.
I won't be able to get past the way they made Kara into just a gender-bent Clark with the same supporting cast, villains, profession, and bumbling glasses-wearing persona. Is adapting anything from the 5 Supergirl comics series really so hard?
Kara is the worst at keeping her identity a secret. She tells her creepy would-be-boyfriend almost immediately and it seems that most of the cast already knows too.
The phantom zone villains don't make a compelling case for themselves, especially with their waiting 10 years to make a move.
And as they say, comedy is harder than tragedy, and the writing wasn't strong enough to make the jokes funny.
I guess it could improve-lord knows plenty of great shows have had terrible pilots, but I was hoping for something more. Imagine if the show had Kara getting used to earth culture, actually dealing with the loss of her family and home planet. Imagine if the comedy came from her being a fish out of water instead of chick flick clichés. Sure it might have been harder to have the lighter tone, but that's the kind of story Kara is meant for, not this.

If I have any complaints about Jimmy it is that he's a little too old and a little too competent. We'll see what awaits "Mr. Action." If the other guy in the office is still around by Christmas, I'll be surprised.
