I watched this week's episode last night....Supergirl comes across as so holier than thou to Lena. I am actually rooting for Lena to become a villain now, haha! I thought the Alex "super suit/magnetic gun" was dumb and I prefer Mon-El with Saturn Girl now.

It does look like they are setting up Lena to be a villain... and Supergirl will be the one to blame for pushing her in that direction. And I guess the Mon-El plotline isn't over yet. Still tired of the Reign storyline. It looks like Jimmy is the focus of next week's episode.

I haven't watched it yet, will probably get to it this weekend. Is it terrible that I will be cheering Lena on? haha! They've really written Supergirl into being such a whiny pain. Unlike the Superman/Lex dynamic where I enjoyed Luthor as a villain but wanted Superman to win.....I find myself wanting to see Lena give Supergirl some comeuppance. Now that I think about this season, it seems like the same episode over and over with all the Reign stuff.

I stopped watching it and I wished that they cancel the show altogether and that's how I see it going. This show is very much parallel -- Adam West's Batman Show ... The first two seasons were good and then the 3rd is so bad -- about one third into the 3rd season -- I've stopped watching it. After 3rd season of Batman -- it was cancelled. I can see it's happening with Supergirl ...

I've enjoyed the Reign storyline, and some of this week's developments will be interesting as thing progress. I really didn't care for how Alex handled things with Ruby, it was obviously 'drawn out' for the sake of manufactured suspense. I agree, Supergirl has been too 'angst'y. Hopefully, now she'll get Mon-El out of her system...and we can mov on with Supergirl and Lena ('You SUCK!' 'NO, YOU SUCK!')

I thought the Alex "super suit/magnetic gun" was dumb and I prefer Mon-El with Saturn Girl now. Well if a Luthor turns evil it won't be a shock, but in Lena's case I can't blame her. I liked how Lena told Kara that she doesn't trust Supergirl anymore because she went behind her back and sent James to go to Lena's Kryptonite vault. I liked that Alex & Ruby are growing closer. I have a feeling if Sam dies to defeat Reign, Alex will take care of Ruby. Only because the other storyline this season has been Alex wanting to have children in her life. At least that was the thought that went through my head with this last episode.

5/21: Well that episode was different. Outside of the Guardian story very little happened. I do like the story with John & his father as they deal with his father's dementia. The possible outing of Jimmy Olsen as the Guardian was very timely & handled well. Props to Mehcad Brooks who got to show his acting skills in a different way this episode.

Last night's episode reminded me of a comic where a new creative team comes in and quickly winds up a story that has dragged on way too long (or at least I thought this was happening when Reign was seemingly wrapped up in the first few minutes). The story felt like it was moving forward and setting some things up for season four, however this was not the case (well, they may have foreshadowed some things to come). By the end, it was more world killers, Reign, blah blah blah. What I did like.....Mon-El and Kara on Argo, the flight ring, Kara and Alura, and I loved seeing Lena and Miss Tessmacher working together. I thought they did a fairly good job on the gun issue and tried to present both sides. Glad Lena didn't back down just to appease James. Not sure the DEO made the right move about their weapons as they go up against some wild stuff, but we'll see. I also liked Alex better in this episode, although every time I see her, she reminds me of Daria's friend in the old Daria cartoon. Ready for this season to end as it has dragged on forever.

6/4: IMO one of the worst episodes. I will watch the last 2 episodes but unless I read great reviews next season I won't be watching this series anymore. It became a chore to watch it. Then there would be a decent episode & it gave me false hope because then the next week it would be back to the same story. This 23 episode season could have been decent if the story was told in 13 episodes. But like I said in another thread I think the CW shows have this problem... a great idea that would be good for 13 episodes that they pad to a full 23 episode season.
And this show suffers from being too "preachy" with all the subtleness of a brick thrown thru a window to get their point across. I disagree that the gun issue was balanced. I found myself rolling my eyes at the end result.

I get why they had the midseason 'hiatus', but, damn, this season has seemingly lasted longer than the combined lifespan of every other TV show ever made. One week to go...

I found myself rolling my eyes at the end result. Supergirl has always been preaching from soapboxes since its first season, and its showrunners cannot stop themselves from beating audiences over the head with their high school debate team-level of messaging. In the latest episode, Winn's non-violent option for guns turned out not be so effective after all, as it ultimately got a man killed. The Kryptionian witches were kept at bay by Kryptonite bullets--both the concept of guns and Kryptonite possession coming under fire from the showrunners, yet it made perfect sense that one of the objects of showrunner revulsion were the only thing preventing the complete end of the DEO staff. I guess that's the writers acknowledging the knee-jerk "get rid of lethal weapons" directive did not make much sense....but I am expecting Winn to come up with some convenient, "This time, it works!" non-lethal weapon. Could be courtesy of Brainiac, who appears in the season finale. The series still has not explained how a world wide threat / appearance of Kryptonians / discovery of Argos City has not been brought to the attention of Superman...you know, the other Kryptonian on earth. With one episode left this season, they cannot keep shoving Superman into a corner, especially with a plot he should be 100% interested in investigating.

It's one of many reasons this season was a fail for me. As far as the show "preaching" it has always done that but it has gotten so bad IMO that I can't even enjoy it anymore. I am going to watch the season finale but will not be watching season 4.

They've overdone everything: 'Angry, angsty, Kara'; 'Cold, detached, determined Lena'; 'Brooding J'onn'; 'About to cry Alex'; 'Bromance Winn and James'; and '"Still Reign, but I'm gonna save my daughter" Sam'.
Having said that, I get that they want to show Supergirl take on some threat that's 'supposed to be a job for Superman'; it is her show, after all, and that was never something that was handled well in her Silver and Bronze Age comic series(other than taking on 'legitimate threat' Lex Luthor, and 'C'mon, even 'Mazing Man could beat THAT guy!' Master Jailer, towards the end of the Superman Family run, she didn't really fight too many of her cousin's villains in her own feature, without his help). On the other other hand, being so drawn-out and typically 'CW''-esque, it is feeling a bit like when DC'conveniently' wrote Superman, Wonder Woman, and Flash out of the 'Martian invasion' storyline in the old Justice League, just to prove a point, as all three of them did nothing of note in their own books.

I haven’t been following the series, but watched the episode “The adventures of Supergirl” tonight (I think it’s the first episode in season 2). I really enjoyed the general tone of the thing: it was fun.
It used to be that superhero comics would revel in the fun of characters flying, stopping buildings from collapsing and stopping bullets with a smile. Good to know that this attitude still exists somewhere, without too much angst and hand wringing!
And Melissa Benoist is a great Supergirl!
I’ve seen two episodes to date, but I will try a few more!
