Survey time for DC readers!
On January 1, 2017, Dick Grayson is more likely to be starring in a comic called...
A. Grayson B. Nightwing
I look at the future solicitations and it looks like he'll take down Spyral and his inner circles of cape friends knows he's still alive. Grayson has been a good comic, but I'm going to guess B.

Oooh sign me up for 30 copies!!!!
Honestly come Jan 2017, I am not sure what DC's line up will look like. I don't think it will still be Grayson as a title, but I am not sold it will go back to Nightwing either. A lot is going to depend on how the market share game plays out, if DC can find a way to diversify what is actually selling so they aren't so top heavy, if they decide to do weeklies again, and how well the meat and potatoes approach works for them or whether they find another straw to grasp at if it doesn't.
My best guess is the DC line will be leaner i.e. fewer ongoings but weeklies filling the gap again, and a higher cancellation threshold for books (i.e. book sunder 25K in sales would be in jeopardy) with weaker selling books getting the axe and not replaced so the line shrinks by attrition. To beef up things, I think they will look for more "special" projects like DKIII, but again they will lose their specialness the more are pushed out to flood the shelves.
We will see though. DC shook up the paradigm in 2011, and redistributed the marketshare. Four years later they lost most of their gains. 2016 will mark 5 years, and a full year at Burbank under their belts, I wouldn't be surprised ot see some kind of big shake up towards the end of 2016 if market share hasn't started moving in a more positive direction by the time they start prepping for the big summer cons like SDCC.

Batgirl!), and Alfred (who maybe already new anyway). I hope they go with having him in his own town like they did with Bludhaven.. that worked well. Or maybe Titans Hunt will lead to something.

Marvel's direction is toward CIVIL WAR 2 next May. Now if DC announces INFINITE CRISIS 2 for the summer...

I've always maintained that DC should essentially function under two imprints: Continuity Driven: Have one imprint that is essentially like what DC is doing now -- things change, stuff happens, the status quo gets shaken to boost sales and generate hype. Legacy Driven: Have one imprint that keeps the classic spirit of the characters intact. We've seen this tried intermittently with things like Legends of the Dark Knight, the All-Star titles, the Confidential titles, and even Wonder Woman '77, but do it more deliberately with the intent of pumping out monthly stories where characters and the status quo DO NOT change. Instead of being a simple retro stunt, this is where writers can thrive who want to tell GOOD stories without the shock and awe. A Paul Dini type writer, for example, could positively thrive here. I think the readers would support this if it were done more deliberately and with more commitment behind it. Don't throw the D listers on the Legacy titles or (worse yet) give complete control of them to one A lister; don't make those titles pander to kids, mature readers, or any one small demographic. They should be all-ages awesomeness. Thus, if you don't like the continuity-driven stuff, quit complaining. The Legacy titles are there for you. And if you crave change and progression in your titles, quit complaining; the Continuity driven titles are there for you. Fans could have their cake and eat it too. Honestly, I thought this is pretty much what was going to happen after Convergence. I'm all for it. If I were in Didio's shoes, this would be a given.

Except sales were very disappointing on Convergence, so no one in a suit would approve it. What sells-Batman and Justice League and books that "matter" everything else is flirting with concellation levels, so you won't see much else. Just the way the market is constructed now because buying habits of comic fans have become entrenched. As much as people say they want things online, the dollars spent don't speak the same language as that in those posted messages, and the dollars are the voice that gets listened to. -M

Yeah, I get really tired of seeing the copious whining in places like CBR that 'x' fringe book is about to be canceled, and the people doing the whining aren't even buying it... it's like they think the comic book market exists only to please them personally.
The issue with Convergence, I think, is that they said going in that it didn't 'count', so why buy it? I did (because I desparately wanted there to be more classic DC), but a can see why modern fans didn't. IIRC looking at the numbers, it did do better than the regular books do, just not as good as Marvel Events do.. most of the Convergence books were in the 40-50K range, where most non Bat non JLA titles are more like 20-30.

And the minis that did well are now getting shots at on goings, we have Lois and Clark, there's going to be a Swampthing book with Len Wein and there is strangely a Telos book. I haven't picked that one up as he just seemed like a Brainiac stand in, but there must have been some interest there if they made it a book.

True, but they didn't go all the way.. it's still set it the current DCU, which makes it really kinda weird. I mean, how much of a threat is anything where there are 2 Supermen running around?

It seems that although they both exist concurrently they have little desire to see them interact(which is good) so they are their own things.
