This cover... came out exactly a year after this one... John Buscema excelled at those "clash" covers. Here's another one he did in 1968, just a few months prior to his Avengers King-Size Special/Annual #2 cover.

Ron Frenz is known for his Silver-Age-inspired 1980s covers. One example is shown in Icctrombone's post of Thor #126. Here are a few other examples: Should inspired be in quotes? I wasn't reading those tiles in the 80s, so I'm not sure if Frenz was doing those "after" anyone and whether anyone reading then would have remembered the originals. My guess is that the only really well known one at the time would have been the Avengers with the Vision.

And here's his Thor #427 cover. He signs this one "after Kirby" as it's homaging a cover that is somewhat well known...

I drew a blank, of course. This classic... Ah-hah. Thanks. Please excuse my ignorance.

Big John sure loved him some JLA! And for good measure, here's a team clash cover by brother Sal--the Squadron so it's very much in the JLA mold. Roy Thomas has commented that he loved how Sal made Hyperion look like the barrel-chested Wayne Boring Superman!

So why can't we call 'em swipes? Because so many of them are (though some, like the Avengers Special and JLA #56 or most of the Pieta-themed images, are variations of what I'd consider a cover art archetype rather than a deliberate quote of an existing piece of art).
Cei-U! Apparently feeling contrarian this fine Sunday morning!
