The first homage to Action Comics 1?  From Superman 17 (1942). Even then it was regarded as an important enough image to go back to though I imagine anyone who hadn't bought Superman's first appearance four years prior wouldn't recognize it as a reference to said comic. I think the first homage to Action #1 might be this one:  "So you can pick up a car, huh? Well, I can throw one!" |

I just posted this an addendum to last week's "In the Crosshairs" cover contest. They're not identical, but that famous (and much-copied/homaged) Alpha Flight cover from 1984 has always reminded of this Secret Six cover from 1968.   |

I hate 90% of them but would be curious to get other posters' reactions. some of those are descent, most of them are excrement from the flatulent posterior of a sewer-based rodent. the worst offenders are the 'recaps' of x-men 100, and 142. though still easier on the eyeballs than anything by Allred. |
