Gotta disagree with you on Allred. I love his stuff that's why i get in trouble for critisizing it but certain female editors got in trouble for critisizing this popular stuff, too : (edited for propriety) and said editor's complaints were 90% fair and accurate. so, i reserve my right to critique Allred.

One of the greatest comic strips ever, Rick O'Shay, (Shameless plug: classiccomics.org/thread/2729/first-classic-comics-christmas-2015?page=2)featured a gunfighter named Hipshot Percussion... who was clearly modelled on, reflective of, meant to remind us of -- whatever -- Jack Palance's character, Jack Wilson, in the classic Western, Shane (1953). Hipshot first appeared in the Rick O'Shay strip in its second week, early May, 1958. What I didn't realize till now was that Charlton had a character called Sheriff of Tombstone, the first issue of which arrived on the stands in September, 1958. The sheriff, Luke Slade, looks to me like Hipshot's son and Jack Wilson's grandson.

Both edited by Weisinger (yeah, I know I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but just in case someone wasn't aware...) Superboy #30 is sometimes mentioned as a nod to the TWS cover. .
