Is it really? Considering Marvel had nearly ALL their Rawhide Kid and Two-Gun Kid (and other westerns) innards redrawn with the main character to resemble the then "current" version being published, it is more likely to believe that Kirby was told to simply redraw/insert the main figure of Rawhide Kid. Look closely and everything else on the covers is the same. And did it again in 124:

I stand corrected.
Re Grey Lensmen - EE Doc Smith's Lensmen books have been plundered by many over the years - Babylon 5 being a prime example with The Shadows and the Vorlons being the Eddorians and Arisians in different hats.

MAD #181 (March, 1976). Cover by Norman Mingo. Crazy Magazine #25 (May, 1977). Cover by Bob Larkin. I guess in a technical sense, its an homage, but yeah....two satire magazines using the same portrait of Washington as the base for its cover within mere months of the other? Er...swipe!

Hey nerdygirl905, I've put that link in your above post behind a NSFW warning. The Classic Comics Forum is a family friendly site, which some members do in fact browse from their workplaces. So, if you link to somewhere outside of the forum and it might feature NSFW content, please consider using a warning, just to let other members know before they click. Many thanks.
