50 DC and Marvel Supporting CharactersI'll start this thread on Monday, January 4th with my first selection of Characters from both DC Comics and Marvel Comics and I'm not doing it by rank but by Alphabetical Order and I will do it a totally different way that will spark discussion on this thread with an unique angle that I personally rank each of the Supporting Characters from both company. All of these Characters are top notch in every way shape or form and I will definitely will surprise you of my selections that I carefully select here in this thread. It was very easy and well thought out list that I made and most of them you already know by heart and I'm telling you that I carefully weight each of them in a manner that I thought that they are the top 50 candidates for this thread. I love each and everyone of these character and I would had a very difficult time ranking them from 1 to 50 and believe me every single one of them is worthy in the top 10 spots on my thread and having said that it will be hard for me to rank them. I selected 27 DC Supporting Characters and 23 Marvel Supporting Characters on my list and they already uploaded on my new Image Hosting Web Site and I need to spend a day or two creating a template of how I'm going to share my thoughts on each of the characters that I selected here. I considered all angles - Comic Books, Animated Cartoons, TV and Movies, Featured Films, and any other criteria that I can come up with and I have made it as unique as possible. I'm starting it in alphabetical order - and I want to let everyone here a day or two to ponder what I'm going to do with this thread and I'm learned my mistakes from last year and I'm trying to make it as entertaining as possible. Starts on January 4th! The BEST Supporting Characters from DC and Marvel ...

Speaking of the Defenders, what about longtime supporting character Jack Norris, who later turned up in the pages of Nomad?

Speaking of the Defenders, what about longtime supporting character Jack Norris, who later turned up in the pages of Nomad? Sorry, he's not listed and I didn't read much Defenders at all and I never ever read Nomad at all. Honest. I only read something like a ballpark of 4-8 stories of this (above) group and totally forgot about them and I was very surprised to see Richard Rory was associated with this group.

The Defenders' original run lasted 125 issues (not counting its reinvention as "The New Defenders" from #126-152), and Jack was a regular from #21-58, or thereabouts. He was the somewhat abrasive and self pitying ex-husband of Barbara Norriss, whose body was possessed by the spirit of the Valkyrie, and he later joined SHIELD and befriended Jack Monroe, the Nomad.

So what's the point of this thread exactly? I don't get it. I could create a list of scores of Silver and Bronze Age DC and Marvel supporting characters (with Golden Age DC added) in less than an hour.
Cei-U! Inquiring minds ant to know!

Ace the Bat-Hound - DC Supporting CharacterFirst Appearance - Batman #92, June 1955 Created by: Bill Finger and Sheldon Moldoff Publication HistoryAce debuted in Batman #92 (cover-dated July 1955) and was created by Bill Finger and Sheldon Moldoff. Ace's creation was inspired by the success of Krypto's debut in Adventure Comics #210 (March 1955), and by German Shepherds from detective films and serials, such as Rin Tin Tin and Ace the Wonder Dog. Alternate PictureFavorite Action Photo of Ace in the Golden Age of ComicsOne of my favorite adventures of Ace the Bat-Hound in the early days of Comics. Interesting FactHe did have his own training. For example; his specialized radio collar, when activated told him to don his own mask (via a hands-free device) and track down Batman and Robin. Clever idea by DC Comics back then and that's why I gave this idea 3 Stars for their unique concept of telling Ace when it's the right time to wear his Mask to conceal the prominent star-shaped marking on his forehead. He was a team-player and a loyal side-kick to Batman and Robin those days and this picture below best illustrate that point. And, adored by Batwoman and I just loved this picture below! Personal ThoughtsHe was used for a better part of nine years until Ace disappeared from the Batman comics after Julius Schwartz took over as editor in 1964. He had couple of appearances after that and having said that it was a bad decision on the part of Julius Schwartz to not to use him at all. I had mixed feelings after reading Batman after 1964 when I was reading my older brothers hand me downs of Batman's Comics and having said that he had a good run and that's why I put him in my 50 of the best supporting characters that Comic Books has to offer.

Are you defining "supporting characters" as any character not starring in their own series? Because I would define Bat-Hound as a superhero (albeit a non-human one) rather than a supporting player. Again, I don't get it.

In my mind, he's a canine superhero that supports Batman and Robin and that's why I put him in the Supporting Category. I changed my Thread Title just now when I just saw your post Kurt!
