The point is, ladies and gentleman, that goofy, for lack of a better word, is good. Goofy is right, goofy works. Goofy clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Goofy, in all of its forms, has marked the upward surge of mankind. And goofy, you mark my words, will not only save comic books, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA. Thank you very much. Maybe back in 1964... But I prefer this...

The Nu52 cover reminds me of another one:
Trunks on superheroes need to make a comeback.

I don't really have a preference; I can read comics from any era as long as I find the premise interesting or the execution solid. What really ends up impressing me though, is when someone can take a silly thing from an old era, inject it with enough modern-ness, and still not have it look like it's neutering the joy from the original thing. It's a subjective thing, to be sure, but it's there.

But, that issue actually got a shoutout not too many years ago. I actually do miss that: the days when people'd just turn into stuff every other issue. And, straight up satirical superhero stuff, like Kirby or Gerber (or Kirby and Gerber) used to excel at.

yeah thats the thing, grant morrison is a true lover of silver age nonsense and his best stories embrace the lunacy and he's probably the most successful writer of the last 20 years. go figure.

Stuff like this, wherever it may be from: Heads getting cut off? I don't know if I want to see that in the Nu52.

I miss those Superdickory stories where Supes wanted to teach Lois or Jimmy some lesson and came up with some long intricate scheme that made them look silly.
I miss the days when a super criminal would explain how he's going to commit a crime and would wind up teaching me a valuable science fact
I miss the days when Krypto actually went on outer space patrols because I knew the galaxy would be safe. And when he got back the other super animals would gather around and hear his story

One "problem" with modern comics is that they are just as silly, but they take themselves so seriously!
Like the Court of the Owls. It's an organization that has been around Gotham for centuries ... and Batman (currently in Batgod mode) has never heard of them.
It makes no sense. It's OK to like it, but don't act like it's not silly.
And the Joker having his face cut off and running around town with his face tied to his bloody stump of a face. How is that not silly? (And I liked that. I even liked Death of the Family (except for the end). But it was silly silly silly. Almost profoundly so.)

"Return of Silly Old Things"?
I was under the impression that Cei-U! & Ish Kabibble have been here since pretty much Day One.
