Yow! The Coffee-A-Go-Go was pretty awesome. (And I admit, I've only seen it in reprints, but Zelda and Vera and the whole Beatnik crew ... they were FAR OUT, DADDY-O!)
I think my favorite scene in all X-Men history is that part in X-Men #7 where the Beatniks paint a face on Hank's foot and start to form a whole movement around Hank's fabulous feet. They call themselves the Barefoot Beats!
Can ya dig it!
P.S. It's possibly at least partly inspired by "A Bucket of Blood," the Roger Corman film.

Jeff Parker's truly wonderful X-Men: Year One included several sequences in the coffee house, IIRC. I'll have to dig those out sometime to see if the old crew were included; I'm betting so.

Didn't Peter Parker have a similar coffee shop hangout called The Coffee Bean closer to midtown Manhattan? I think it was more upscale without the beatnicks

Yes, indeed. I'm pretty sure I first encountered it in a guide to Peter's favorite spots published in Annual #5.

Do you mean X-Men:First Class? If so, I love that series too. It's probably the best version of Angel since his New Defender and early X-Factor days.

In the world of Marvel in the Swingin Sixties' you knew you were almost an adult if you could walk into a shop and order a cup of java.

Batman on vacation. Reading through the Batman and Dark Knight Archives, it is surprising how many stories start with Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson on vacation somewhere when they stumble across a crime.
Batman doesn't seem to take vacations any more.

That series was fantastic, but I like everything he does. So, I'm not a fair judge!

Heck, & I went & looked it up to make sure I got it right & everything ...

Waitwaitwait ... "Return of Silly Old Things"? I was under the impression that Cei-U! & Ish Kabibble have been here since pretty much Day One. I can't believe it took you until page 3 to make this joke. Slacker! Cei-U! I summon the disappointment!

Reading through the Batman and Dark Knight Archives, it is surprising how many stories start with Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson on vacation somewhere when they stumble across a crime. Batman doesn't seem to take vacations any more. Batman doesn't go to baseball games anymore, like he did in Brave and the Bold in the 1970s. (I think it was a Wildcat story. He's just sitting there, as Batman, watching the game .... and then the action starts!)
There's also one where he's just taking a stroll in the park. (I think it's a Teen Titans team-up.)
Batman probably was a lot more rested when Bob Haney wrote his stories.

Bruce needs to fund more kangaroo races. What happened to the days DC was all about kangaroos? How did disco dying steal all the kangaroos in their universe?

headless man and monkey i can roll with - these things happen - but why are those two chairs so far away from the desk? it's a very impersonal office - and that skull doesnt exactly inspire confidence either. Headless man has come extremely well dressed for this meeting and as such deserves a little common courtesy.
