Most everyone here probably has some classic series they're trying to fill in with back issues. What are yours? How far do you have to go?
Mine are:
1st Thunderbolt series (missing around 10 or so) 1st Static series (bought as a group on sale at LCS, missing only 1 issue before I can read them) 1st Teen Titans series 100 Page Super-Spectaculars (the DC-## series, only missing a couple of the super-heroes issues) 1st Defenders (missing around 15) Freedom Fighters (missing 1) Secret Origins (post Crisis, missing 6 or 8) Spectre (Ostrander series, maybe 20 or so)

ROM (11, 13-14) Frustrating as all get out.
Spectre-Ostrander series (59-60, 62)62 is a pain in the neck to find.
Defenders (1-10, 14, 94, 116-118, 122) I don't see this being a problem just focused on other things right now.
Swamp Thing. I have 56-171 and I only need about 20 more issues to complete the series but at least I have #37.
I'm close on Secret Origins, Arak, All-Star Squadron and Animal Man. I think I need like 3 or 4 issues of each series. Again, you just end up focused on other things or find good deals on a particular day that aren't the comics you need to complete sets.

This year I don't see myself buying a whole lot of back issues outside of trades. If I were to work on back issues of classics I'd start with Epic Illustrated. There are a lot of runs I want to complete but will use trades the first couple volumes to save a little cash, like Savage Sword Of Conan and Creepy/Eerie.

My main focus in trying to complete Conan the Barbarian right now. I need 13 issues between 5 and 24 to complete the run.
I am also working on Warlord, needing 21 issues between 105 and 133.
I stopped trying to complete the Wolfman Perez Titans because all I need was Tales of the Teen Titans 44, but it's 1st Nightwing and exploded in price. Sadly I bought it off the stands way back when but it was among the books I get rid of when I moved one of those times thinking these will always be affordable if I want them again..ha!
Less of a priority, but on my radar are finishing up the runs of Ms. Marvel (4 issues needed but they are the Mystique related issues so again got a bit pricey), Spider-Woman (10 issues needed), and Iron Fist (need 8 of the 70's solo series).
Long term and just starting to put together a run of Savage Sword of Conan and Deadly Hands of Kung Fu. Need lots of each.
I am also always looking for Joe Kubert covers, but that's an impossible dream as they are soooo many.
I pick up other stuff I find interesting on the cheap, or that catches my eye at cons, but those are the ones I am actively working to complete.

I'm close on Warlord. Perhaps we should compare lists?

I'm close on Warlord. Perhaps we should compare lists? If this leads to people helping each other to fill in their lists, so much the better. But I have no Warlord, so I'd be of no help to you, sadly.

I lack 2 later issues each of Power of Shazam & of the first Guardians of the Galaxy, I know. And of course #2 of New Teen Titans.

I need about 20-25 Thunderbolts though, same with Defenders and as far as Spectre I need 20 as well. I'm not sure if you're like me but I don't read a series until I finish the run or series. It's a terrible habit but one I have. Off the top of my head here are the others Marvel Fanfare-just need #60 (thought I had it but didn't) Captain Atom (80s series)- need about 5 Ms Tree- need about 10 Sleepwalker-need #32 (not sure I need it but might as well) Atari Force-#20 New Teen Titans- need 1,2,44

I'm working on several, some of which, like Archie, I don't expect to ever actually complete. My focus at the moment is on Usagi Yojimbo, as I really want to read the rest and I just need like 11 issues to have the next 110 in a row to read.
Series I am actively working on, more or less in priority order:
Usagi Yojimbo (Dark Horse) - missing 42 Conan the Barbarian - missing 42 Savage Sword of Conan - missing 46 Jughead Archie Life with Archie Pep Comics Boy Comics - missing 3 JiM/Thor - missing 4 Sgt. Fury - missing #1 Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love - missing #1
Other titles I am working on less actively: Lois Lane Our Army at War/Sgt. Rock Kull Red Sonja Strange Tales Weird War Tales Phantom Stranger Semper Fi' The 'Nam Girl Comics Man Comics Tomb of Dracula Master of Kung Fu Hero for Hire Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD Son of Tomahawk Xenozoic Tales
And all classic DC romance and war titles

I'm done with everything post 1969, at least at DC and Marvel.
My Superman singles now meet up with the end point of the Showcases, except for a few Jimmy Olsens and Lois Lanes. I'd like to get Superman and Action from Action #241 on up and Superman from #122 on up.
My main focus in the last few years has been Superboy/ Adventure Comics since it doesn't look like DC will be collecting non Legion Superboy.
Justice League of America and World's Finest are two more series I'd like to have as much as possible even though I have the most expensive ones already in Archives.
My big problem area is Captain Marvel. I'd love to get as many Golden Age collections as possible, but it doesn't look like it is going to happen.

I'm pretty much done with collecting back issues. It's not that all my series are complete, but I've run out both the space to do so and really also the will. At some point it just seems to become collecting for the collecting (speaking just for myself of course).
If I see something I don't have and is just too cool to pass by, or hear of some gem out there that I'd not until now known about I might still be tempted.
I no longer find ebay a viable comic buying option. Lone Star is still not bad, but shipping is still high. That leaves locally sourced options and that means pretty meagre pickings.
If I was to ever take of the buying urge again I think it would be for Golden Age or underground comics, which have actually have a certain affinity with each other.
Still, I'm content to sit on my horde and enjoy what I have.

Currently I'm focused on the following (listed in no particular order):
Master of Kung Fu (I have a little over half the run) Micronauts - original series (have about a third of these) Scalphunter issues of Weird Western (looong way to go on this one) Invaders (I have *maybe* 20% of the run) Sgt. Fury (I have a complete run through #60 then it gets spotty) Captain Savage (6 issues to go) Nexus (still need a crapload of these)
I also still need a handful of issues to complete my runs of '70s Marvel Westerns (Gunhawks, Outlaw Kid, Red Wolf) and have just begun collecting Arak (I need everything from #6 up) and the '80s Ka-Zar (need #4 up).
Cei-U! I summon the want list highlights!
