So, seriously you guys the plot of this thing is that all the reboots that DC is doing are an actual threat to the structure of the universe. Like, the actual text, was "The universe keeps restarting over and over and over! It canna take much more captain! She's gonna blow!"
(I paraphrase slightly.)
So DC's actual real world continuity problems are a threat to their fictional universe. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! God... I think I actually gotta admire there chutzpah, here.
Side note: Overall, this volume of JLA has been decent reading; it feels a lot like Grant Morrison's run. There's the quick pacing, the big action set-pieces. It's not as smart or as intermittently confusing, but I'd rate it as the best Justice League stuff in the 21st century.

With the exception of the first arc, this volume of Justice League has been really good. I'd rate it as the best title of the entire New52 era of DC Comics. Darkseid War may be the best arc of them all if it sticks the landing.

To those that are reading this run, what are your thoughts on Darkseid's daughter Grail? Hearing her appearance hasn't been well received, and some readers can't stand her. I have to admit her origin story is iffy at best, I mean c'mon...born the same time as Diana? I also wished they would have added a bit more backstory to her before throwing her out there siding with the Anti-Monitor against her dad. I like the whole concept of Darkseid having a daughter. I like that she has inherited the Omega Beams. But to pair her like they did opposite Wonder Woman was an unusual choice. I'll wait to read the rest of the arc before deciding if Grail is a fail or not.

I'm reading it but would be lying if I said I'm actually following or understating it or could explain it to anyone. As far as the character goes, I'm cool with darkseid having a daughter etc and she, or the idea of her at least seems cool enough.

I think Grail will wind up just on the happy side of par for me, but I think #50 has another card to turn over.
After more than three decades, it looks like Steve got a little bit of revenge in #49.
It's a boy! Now what?
I can't wait for the finish and what Lex is about to do.

I thought the Darkseid War was one of those long-running DCU-events and also that it must be nearly finished by now. Isn,t it that thing where the New Gods are replaced by DCU superheroes, Batman for Metron, etc? I've been waiting for it to get over so that there might be at least a tiny chance DC could produce an actual New Gods comic some time.

Then we go into Rebirth, so who knows what will happen. The only thing DC has out where I think there is more than a 1% chance of you liking a New Gods appearance is the Superman: Coming of the Supermen mini series by Neal Adams.

I've been waiting for it to get over so that there might be at least a tiny chance DC could produce an actual New Gods comic some time. It's a 12-issue arc in the current Justice League series, which began in issue #40 and concludes in #50 which comes out May 25th. An epilogue issue follows in #51. There is also a Special issue and some one-shots for Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Shazam, Lex Luthor and Flash, which are all included in the recent Power of the Gods HC. I haven't read the one-shots yet, but I'm hearing they aren't that good and have some one-star reviews. I may have to avoid those from what I'm hearing and just stick to the JL stuff. But yes you are right, several of the DCU heroes have become "Gods" so to speak. Batman has the Mobius chair, Superman was consumed by the fires of Apokolips and has been infused with Solar Energy, the Flash has merged with the Black Racer, etc. Not sure what happened to the others as I've only read up to #44, but I'm guessing the others get their powers in their respective one-shots. I don't buy singles anymore and was going to wait for the next trade, but Part 2 won't be out until July. So I may pick up the remaining issues digitally.

It's an extremely simplistic and superficial (albeit, as batlaw said, needlessly complex) take on the New Gods. But there's enough big, dumb action sequences to keep me entertained.

I understand of course and apologise for bringing any negativity into the thread. The meta-textual aspect sounds interesting as a logical, though rather unsubtle, development of the concepts introduced into superhero comics by writers like Moore, Morrison, and Ellis - or, going further back, Steve Gerber.

Though for some reason Superman referred to it as solar energy last issue so...I give up. I guess there's a star inside Apokolips.
