#10 Alan Scott Green LanternDC COMICS CHARACTERHe is one of my favorite GOLDEN AGE CHARACTER in DC COMICS History and one of the most colorful one indeed. I just dig his costume mightily and I consider it a grand costume design and still is. This is an introductory post and I'm giving you all a heads-up and more to come on Tuesday with more information regarding Alan Scott of whom I consider one of the greatest heroes in DC Comics during the Golden Age of Comics. To me, he is a heavyweight by design and having said that - he is one of the most powerful Justice Society Member outside of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Doctor Fate. Perhaps unusually for a Golden Age character, Alan Scott picked his costume design not to impress the masses or frighten criminals, but because he wanted an outfit "so bizarre that once seen it would not be forgotten". It's certainly one of my favorite uniforms. I don't know who came up with the Green Lantern logo, but my best guess would be Martin Nodell who co-created The Green Lantern (alongside Batman creator Bill Finger) and who also came up with the design of the Pillsbury Doughboy. You're right Juggernaut, it looks great and its flames capture something about the original Green Lantern that was sadly forgotten about over time - the supernatural quality of the character in his early appearances. There is such an ominous note to The Lantern's origin - the disembodied voice with its promise to bequeath first death, then life, and then power with its final glow. As an origin story involving black magic steeped in a history of death it sounds better equipped to detail the beginnings of a powerful new villain than a charter member of the JSA. I like Scott's early adventures in which he uses the ring to paralyze his enemies, read their minds, walk through walls like a ghost as he seems to channel the supernatural energies of someone in The Spectre's realm rather than the sci-fi trappings afforded by, say, an advanced race of benevolent aliens. You really feel like you're reading the start of a cautionary tale about a man in danger of becoming consumed by a force he doesn't understand in All American 16 more than you're witnessing an inspiring, uplifting yarn.

#9, Hal Jordan - Green LanternBefore I begin, I read and re-read over 30,000 to 40,000 posts here and every time I ran across someone here commenting about Hal Jordan and they can him a joke, stand up guy, and all that and I really have a hard time accepting this because I consider Hal Jordan is the Greatest Green Lantern of all time. At one time, he was my favorite hero actually ahead of both Superman and Batman and among others as well. I just dig his green, black, and white costume and I really wanted to go out as Green Lantern and my Mom said "No" and put on your Superman's Costume instead. That's when I was 8 years old. Anyway, I find him fearless, bold, and one of the most intriguing characters in DC Comics History and I just fell in love with him in the day that I first saw him in a Comic Book. He had a great gallery of rouge headlined by Sinestro, Star Sapphire, and others. I will get to them later on. This is an introductory post and I wanted to touch with all of you here of my love of Green Lantern and to me he is the Emerald Gladiator and better yet the Cosmic Crusader and I like both of these nickname equally well. Both of them are authentic as they go. One of my favorite picture of Hal Jordan as Green Lantern So at Number 9 ... I give you Hal Jordan - Green Lantern!

It was these cartoons below propelled Green Lantern in the Spotlight!
I was 8 years old when these came out and they had a great influence on my love for Green Lantern!
These came out in 1967 and I still watch these cartoons on a DVD on monthly basis to relived my fantasy as a young boy back then and they still stunned me for it's visual enjoyment. I just wanted to share these with you today.

Four Other Green Lanterns ... to touch uponI feel that they're two true Green Lanterns - Alan Scott and Hal Jordan base on their own personal histories are the two that I really cared about. Green Lantern Kyle RaynerHe was a former Titans and Justice League Member of who that Grant Morrison recruited to be a part of his own League and I felt (initially) that he hasn't earned his spot in the League in the first place and after reading several issues along the way he began to warm me up and I learned to accept him for all it's worth. I never, ever cared for his costume because it's looks so odd and not becoming like and I felt it was poorly done in the first place. Knowing of his personal history with Wally West who was a former Titan and Justice League Member - I felt that Wally earned his way into the League not Kyle. But, with these two youngsters they made a real impact into the Grant Morrison Era of the Justice League and I felt that Kyle is one of the better Lanterns and I felt that he should be mentioned as the first and foremost Lantern after Scott and Jordan. Green Lantern John StewartMy only exposure of John Stewart is from the Cartoon Network's Justice League Unlimited and a few Comic Books and I felt that he was too bossy in the JLU and because of my limited experience of him - I have a hard time accepting him as a Green Lantern in the first place and please don't criticize me - I had a hard time accepting him as one of the major player in DC Universe. I consider him a second rate Lantern and doesn't belong in the first place. The problem is that he is a product of the Bronze Age of Comics and I did not read much comics in the 80's and the 90's and that's hurt his chances to become a great Green Lantern to me. But, he is a Green Lantern and when I do read some of his stories he was smart, resourceful, and committed to the Lantern's Corps. Green Lantern Guy GardnerHe was the Green Lantern in the Justice League International Era and when I read many of the post that Shaxper has written about and I went out and borrowed some the JLI books and having seen them and all that ... the stories were good and the artwork was so horrible that I wanted to scream of the injustice that they did in those hideous books that I read during that era. I felt that Guy is so out of place in any setting and I hated the treatment that he is the only True Green Lantern and that's was the biggest turnoff for me. To me, I always hated him and I even hated him more when he was the Warrior. I was never, ever graced him in the first place and that's why I had a hard time loving Justice League International and his stories as Green Lantern. His costume is really ugly. Green Lantern Simon BazWhy you need a Gun in the first place when you got the most powerful weapon in the universe on your finger? I hated him the moment that I saw him in the first place and his place in the Justice League of America of which Steve Trevor and Martian Manhunter were co-leaders. I felt that he is the worst Green Lantern of all time and never, really embraced him in the first place. Sorry Everyone he doesn't deserve a power ring as long he carries a gun.

John was OK but came into his own on the JLU cartoon. Kyle also was OK & grew on me with time. Never liked Guy or Simon.

Hal's ok but the least interesting of the 4.
Love Guy as a Red Lantern.
The more I saw Kyle the more he grew on me. Liked his New Guardians title a lot.
Have only seen Simon but haven't read of him or Jessica Cruz yet. BTW, the gun is in case the ring ever runs out of juice.

Hal Jordan Green LanternI find him one of the most seasoned and more noblest of all Green Lantern's and I just can't imagine anyone else to be Green Lantern that's completely without fear. I know most of you here probably thinks that I'm nuts but I find him quite imaginative and has a great deal of willpower and always have a thinking man game going here because his rouge gallery is quite impressive. Doctor Polaris Evil Star Major Disaster Mongol Ohm Shark Sonar Sportsmaster Tattooed Man Vandal Savage Weaponers of Qward Sinestro Star Sapphire and dozen of others as well. I just can't place John, Kyle, Simon, and any other Green Lantern over him because he is the Greatest Green Lantern of all time and knows how to use his Power Ring to the fullest. His test pilot background that taught him a great deal of planning, organizing your thoughts, and most of all helped him to prepare his role as Green Lantern. While Alan is more mystical - Hal is more cosmic and sci-fiction than Alan and that's makes me love him more as Green Lantern than Alan and yet I find Alan's Costume one the best there is. Hal doesn't mind having a Boss by the name of Carol Ferris who later became Star Sapphire and that's created a lot of conflicts with Women in his dual role of Hal Jordan/Green Lantern. That's why I kind of prefer his Cosmic Crusader Nickname and that's kind of neat because his mind is always thinking similar to Batman's who is the Caped Crusader. I heard and read in various comic books that Hal is also affectionately called the Emerald Gladiator and that's is appropriate nickname as well. But, the Cosmic Crusader is one that I prefer the most. He has a long career as a superhero and I consider one of the major player in the Justice League of America and I just find his friendship with Oliver (Green Arrow) Queen and Barry (The Flash) Allen unique and noteworthy and they have their share of ups and down like any other friendship and that's makes them winners in my book. I do enjoy the Green Arrow and Green Lantern stories many times as a young man and I still do that today. All this and much more ... I just can't stay no to him and he's my Number One Green Lantern ... and no one here can't change my mind about him One of my favorite picture of him reciting his oath ... In brightest day, in blackest night, No evil shall escape my sight Let those who worship evil's might, Beware my power...Green Lantern's light!I find those words stirring and noble and that's why Hal Jordan is the Greatest Lantern of all time. He is the noblest of all Green Lantern ... His Power Ring to recharge it every 24 hours ...
