GREEN LANTERN MOVIE - Starring Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively This movie is a major, major disappointment to me and I actually walked out of this movie about 2/3 of the movie and did not bother watching after that. I paid $8.00 for a modified matinee and I just could not believe that I paid for this junk. I don't want to spend much time on this and I just wanted to let everyone here that I had a hard time watching it. But yet, this movie is still on Television every 2 weeks on my Cable System and FX has it the most in the past 2-3 months and yet people continue to watch this garbage time and time again. I got one more thing that I wanted to share with you and I will share that tomorrow and after that ... I will move on to Number 8 on my list. I will be done with Hal Jordan sometimes tomorrow.

I was so disappointed in that movie.
Hopefully the GLC in 2020 will be a lot better.

Back in 1994 ... It was a very difficult year for me ... Part 1 of 2Note to Everyone: Italicized is from Wikipedia. In 1994, in an effort to generate interest in its Green Lantern comics, DC replaced Hal Jordan, who had been the primary Green Lantern since the late 1950s, with the character Kyle Rayner, and eliminated the Green Lantern Corps which had served as supporting characters in the series.Hal (see above) Jordan has been Green Lantern ever since the year before I was born and having a very long history until 1994 of which DC Comics readers were getting tired of Hal Jordan and DC Comics wanted to shake things up in a very big way that I was stunned by the changes that they made here. So, they replaced Hal Jordan with Kyle (see below) Rayner. So, they decided to create a series of three Comic Books to stir things up and that series entitled Emerald Twilight ... My dear friend Brad knows that was working long hours and he brought me these three books from our LCS and gave them for me to read and I was stunned, shocked, floored, and was totally baffled by all this changes in Hal Jordan's life and what I learned and respect for went out the door and I just can't summon the facts about these changes that was earth shattering indeed. Following the complete destruction of his home town Coast City by the villain Mongul, Hal Jordan descends into madness, destroying the Green Lantern Corps, killing his friend Kilowog and all of the Guardians except for Ganthet. MongolI never ever thought at that time that Mongol be a villain for Hal Jordan that forces his hand into madness by destroying the Green Lantern Corps, his best friend Kilowog, and all the Guardians except for Ganthet. I was very sad and frustrated of DC Comics changing everything in a most startling way possible. I loved Kilowog and that alone made me very sad to see him die back then and destroying the whole Guardians of the Universe and left one lone survivor is unthinkable. KilowogGanthet

Back in 1994 ... It was a very difficult year for me ... Part 2 of 2Note to Everyone: Italicized is from Wikipedia. After this, Jordan assumed the name Parallax and became a supervillainIt was ZERO HOUR that changes everything about Hal Jordan and he became one of the most mind-boggling SuperVillain that DC Comics ever created and one of the most powerful one and even in ZERO HOUR he even decked the mighty Superman and that alone tells you how powerful he really is. I shocked and very sad to see this and I consider ZERO HOUR one of the most incredible earth-shattering novels that DC Comics ever put together in the 1990's and I was stunned by all the action, drama, and suspense that came with it. Parallax attempted to rewrite history in order to stop the destruction of Coast City by using chronal energy, pulled from the universe by the combined power of the rings of the Green Lanterns he had killed. This was chilling and deceptive of Hal to do this and cover up his sins ...Hal Jordan terrorized the DC universe as the villain Parallax and attempted to make the Cyborg Superman pay for the destruction of Coast City.Cyborg SupermanThis marked the beginning of Cyborg Superman hatred for Parallax and the rest was history. That's has my head spinning all long. Hal eventually sacrificed his life to reignite Earth's sun after it was nearly completely eaten. His soul not at peace, Hal then became the new Spectre to seek redemption for what he did as ParallaxHal Jordan as SpectreThat's another story that I rather not share about because it's really personal and I just don't have the nerve to share those feelings and that's pretty marked the end of Hal Jordan at that time and I just have a difficult time thinking about it and knowing all this it's really puts an unique perspective on the life of Hal Jordan that was shattered beyond all belief in 1994 of which Dan Jurgens and Company put together a Novel called ZERO HOUR that changes everything about that I know about Hal and the many other main players of DC Comics that really puts an unique perspective on the life of Hal Jordan that I did not expect from Dan Jurgens and Company. To be honest, I don't know anything about his role as Spectre and I simply care less. I don't want to go there at all. I hated Parallax and having said that he was the rottenest villain in DC Comics history and I just have a very difficult time swallowing it all up and that's why I just find him hard to understand and never will. That's all I have and it's not easy for me to put this together and I will be off for a couple days preparing my Number 8.

Yes, it's a shame what happened to Hal Jordan and one reason why I tend to ignore comics from post-1990. It just makes me much happier that way. Also, Kilowog is my favorite Green Lanter, poozer!

Congratulations on making Senior Member with this post! Kilowog is my 2nd Favorite outside of Hal Jordan and when he died in the hands of Parallax - he literally broke my heart and that's why I had a hard time accepting it. I did not read much comics in the post-1990 because of work and I was working 55-60 hours work week and that's why my friend Brad brought those comics for me to read and that point on I hated Dan Jurgens more than ever. I hated his creativity and making it very difficult for me to enjoy comics then. I completely agree with you assessment dbutler69!

Yes, it's a shame when writers have to ruin a character to create something new.

You guys aren't going to like my opinion here, but, I really liked Hal as Parallax and later as the Spectre.
He had been under tremendous emotional pressure and just cracked, throwing the rule book out saying, why can't I bring Coast City back ? I have the power.
Later, he repents and goes through his penance as the Spectre and eventually redeems himself and comes back a better person for it.

My whole problem with Hal becoming Parallax is we heard for decades he was the greatest GL. He was fearless. He had tremendous willpower. So I had a hard time buying that he would crack. It went against a core element of who Hal was.
However I totally bought him sacrificing himself to re ignite the sun in Final Night.

I too loved that issue. It really touched me and seemed very in character for Hal. I even sprung for the deluxe cover.

Number 8 is Iron Man, Marvel CharacterI'm saving this for later ... I'm going to talk about Robert Downey Jr. movies that he did in 2008, 2010, and 2013. I felt that he played the part extremely well and did a fantastic job filling in Tony Stark's shoes and the Armor of Iron Man just splendid and he became my favorite actor in Marvel Films almost instantly. To me, he is the Christopher Reeve of Marvel Films and that's speaks volume of his role as the Invincible Iron Man. I adore him in all the Iron Man movies that he did and I've managed to watch all three of these movies at one sitting and came away very impressed of his ability to do the part in most convincing form possible. He worth every penny that he paid for that iconic role and every movie that he appeared he did a masterful job doing both role in great flair, comedy, drama, and everything else in the sun that made me a true believer of him. Before he played Iron Man in 2008 he was an unknown actor to me and I knew some thing about his previous roles in The Shaggy Dog in 2006, Gothika in 2003, and Ally McBeal (TV Series) as Larry Paul of which he did 25 Shows. That's my exposure to Robert Downey Jr. before he did his role in Iron Man in 2008. So, he was an unknown to me at the time ... he did Iron Man in 2008. Back to the three movies that he made ... he helped them make millions for Marvel Films and based of the information that I found in Internet Movie Database: Iron Man 1 … $140 Million … $318 Million 2008 Iron Man 2 … $200 Million … $312 Million 2010 Iron Man 3 … $200 Million … $409 Million 2013 Total ……….. $540 Million … $1,039 BillionRobert Downey Jr. is a money making machine for Marvel Films and that's why Marvel Films is doing so well not DC Comics and based on this information that I just shared here and all that it's greatly influenced me of why I love Iron Man so much. He is a winner in my book and always will be. I just love Iron Man and he is the 2nd best Marvel Superhero of all time - in the Male Department and that why I find him so believable and Robert Downey Jr. made it a winner in my book. Every film that he touch turn out incredible and that's why he is the Christopher Reeve of Marvel Film. Christopher Reeve made me a believer of Superman and Robert Downey Jr. made me a believer out of IRON MAN and rightly so. One of my favorite scenes in his movies ... Here's him eating a Cheeseburger!
