From the Golden Age to the present, there have been lots of comic book stories. Some good. Some bad. Many fans will remember the really bad ones with such anger that they live in infamy. Which story was the worst one for you? Tony Stark was an agent for Kang Hal murders the Green Lantern Corps Spider-man was a clone all along Gwen has kids with Norman Osborne Pym beats his wife Captain America was a Hydra agent from the begining Captain Marvel is killed off with Cancer Jarvis betrays the Avengers for Ultron Scarlet Witch goes insane and kills off Avengers The Punisher becomes an Angel assassin Johnny Storm marries The Things long time girlfriend

I agree with Shaxper - I was thinking about this and Action Comics #593 is the worst of the worst! I just don't know what on John Byrne's mind when he did this insane issue!

Gotta go with the Crossing, to no one's surprise. (Also, I LIKED Hal going crazy, I know that's not popular around here, but that was the most interesting story of his I've read)

I'm having a hard time coming up with anything worse than Gwen and Norman bumping uglies. The rest of the stories on that list are bad (except for the GL and Captain Marvel stories) and a lot of them are a slap in the face to the characters and fans, but the characters eventually recovered. Sins Past left a stink on Gwen Stacy and Norman Osborn that has never fully washed off.

Give it about six months and I'll probably change my answer to Civil War II.

The death of JSA members Hourman, Dr Mid-Nite and the Atom by rapid aging from Extant in Zero Hour. This story was a slap in the face to this character and really angered me. I could see where Hal was on the road to snapping, and it, along with his stint as the Spectre, all made sense to me. I too liked it. JMS' Spidey run was the first I'd liked it since Roger Stern wrote it. I can see where the Gwen / Goblin storyline would upset people, but I've seen crazy things like that in real life so I didn't hate it.

Yeah, Maybe I shouldn't have included Cap as Hydra. As for some of the JLS dying at the hands of Extant- I just accepted it as time for 80+ year old heroes to pass on.

I went with the Gwen/Norman thing. Tony as Kang agent is a contender. As is Civil War.
I agree the Scarlet Witch going evil story is terrible.
I otherwise don't much care for the nominees.
The Cap as Hydra story is way too new to be considered. Is it even over yet? The Clone Saga is a very long saga, of mixed quality. Pym beating his wife is a fine story. I would argue Jarvis' betrayal is a rather good story.
I think Captain Marvel dying of cancer is one of the best superhero stories of all time. So that entry has me scratching my head.
Angel Punisher was a bad idea, but a well-told story. I don't think it belongs on the list.

It depends what we mean by worst, I guess.
The Crossing was about the most incompetent storyline I ever read, though Bendis's New Avengers Xorn arc might have even topped it.
But I'm going to say The Killing Joke. I think the story stinks, and the effects it had on the industry ever since have been terrible.
