Well, finally got around to viewing the Doctor as portrayed by Jodi Whitaker. Watched the 1st 3 episodes today and there was good and bad things to be found. Really like the return of multiple companions and a nice mix of ages and attitudes. Great seeing the return of the companions being "partners" actively being a part of the Doctor's adventures and being true participants as part of the "plan" rather than to seeing the Doctor as the genius solving it all alone.
Whitaker really didn't stand out as anything spectacular after the intensely talented and eclectic versions since nuWho began. Her take is a more subdued and less "flashy" persona so she comes across as less uniquely "alien" to what has come before. Have to see if she grows into the character over time in the coming episodes.
Story wise, episode 1 was an enjoyable intro establishing the premise and characters in a nice story touching more upon the versatility and teamwork over the singular Doctor idea as THE HERO. It proves that viewers watch the show for more than just main character. It is the "team" and interactions which provides a stronger purpose and ideas than the Doctor alone. We believe that WE can actually have a chance to travel along as a companion.
Episode 2 delivers a more traditional science fiction on a budget with less alien styling. And episode 3 did the classic story of placing the past into perspective and showing importance of how the past sets up and creates the now we live in while influencing tomorrow. It did a superb job of capturing the time and place in an authentic way.
Overall, nothing spectacular or new to grab your attention outside of the Doctor being a woman now. Very smartly they avoided the trap of focusing on or acknowledging the change as a big element and just moved forward. A rather quiet, soft start to something which was being highly debated across Fandom and the internet.
I found it less divisive and more watchable than the1st episode of Star Trek Discovery.

I saw it earlier it this week, it wasn't that bad. Some good cameos from the best monsters around.
But the haters on youtube have already dismissed Jodie, Yaz and the whole of Season 13
I think this season will only be 6 episodes, and Jodie's last.

I'm liking it so far hell of a cliffhanger.

I just watched it myself and I was fairly disappointed. There were some solid character moments with the Doctor and Yaz and I like the new guy...but the story itself was just too fragmented to be satisfying. The episode was just too busy setting up the various plotlines that are apparently going to be featured this season rather than tell a story of its own. I'm not down on the season, as some of what was teased looked good but this was probably the weakest opening episode of Doctor Who in my eyes.

The second episode was a vast improvement over the first in that it told an actually coherent story. I still feel like the other fragments should have been removed and told in their own episode as it would have allowed more time to showcase Mary Seacole and the Crimean War but it was a definite step in the right direction.

Chibnall remains a TERRIBLE writer, and for every good moment thus far? There has been groans (the whole "mans best friend" garbage Chibnall seems to have hung the entire premise on) and things that just don't work and (to me) seem very out of character for the Doctor.
oh well. . . they are clearly cramming a whole season's worth of stories (ie: greatest hits creatures) into a 6 episode arc with too many (thus far) unrelated sub-plots/characters. . . so I'm enjoying it.
but yes, it has lots of problems, and I remain sad that the brilliant Jodie Whittaker was so badly served by poor scripts.

When did Chibnall become so bad? I liked the stuff he did for previous Doctors and Torchwood.

Yeah, I thought Capaldi was under-served by the quality of scripts he was given...but in hindsight he had so many more hits.

Capaldi had some great stories and some gawdawful ones. Still haven't bought his set, don't know if I ever will.

When did Chibnall become so bad? I liked the stuff he did for previous Doctors and Torchwood. I liked a lot of what he did for Torchwood. . but even liking it, I can admit much of it was cliche. (but I liked it because I liked so many of the characters - something that hasn't been the case with Jodie's Doctor - whom is super likeable, and he surrounded her with annoying other characters (except for the Gramps) - and the stories had zero character saving graces, sadly).

wow. . episode 3 was a MESS
way, way too much going on. . and yeah, we don't need Daleks, Sontarians, Weeping Angels AND Cybermen as threats when we still have the original two "baddies". . and a new alien race that controls a planet version of the timestream.
WAY too much going on, and as a result, no good clear, ideas.
after a decent 2nd episode, we got a confusing mess of a 3rd one - even as it attempted to fill in backstory for a new character (while introducing yet ANOTHER new character). - - shameful to cram this much in if they knew they only had 6 episodes.

Ep 6 had me wondering what the hell is going on almost every 2 minutes.
Looks like the New Year's Special will be the end of Jodie's and Chinball's run. I liked her but she was given some shoddy rubbish to work with.
