3 episodes still to go. . . the New Year's, then two more in 2022, from what I understood

that. .. . was very unsatisfying.
in the way that Superman's logo suddenly became a trap (via a brand new power) in "Superman II"
not a great send off. . and hey, billions of life forms snuffed out. . but let's treat this as a "happy" ending.
sheesh.

Chibnall remains a TERRIBLE writer, and for every good moment thus far? There has been groans (the whole "mans best friend" garbage Chibnall seems to have hung the entire premise on) and things that just don't work and (to me) seem very out of character for the Doctor. oh well. . . they are clearly cramming a whole season's worth of stories (ie: greatest hits creatures) into a 6 episode arc with too many (thus far) unrelated sub-plots/characters. . . so I'm enjoying it. but yes, it has lots of problems, and I remain sad that the brilliant Jodie Whittaker was so badly served by poor scripts. That how I feel: Whittaker has played the Doctor well but had such bad stories and scripts. It sucks, because to talk about what a great Doctor someone was, I want to be able to point to this or that episode that I loved. I can't really think of one with Whittaker/Thirteen. I actually didn't realize that the new season had started until about a week ago, when I went back and watched the first 5 episodes. My anticipation was activated to be keeping track. The episodes this season seemed simultaneous too long and too short. Some sequences or conversations would seem to drag on, while other things seemed rushed or inadequately explained. The finale seemed particularly rushed. Couldn't they have made it 2 episodes or shifted the buildup into earlier episodes. Meanwhile, we had the interminably long sequences of watching Weeping Angels in a prior episode. It's frustrating to me that some of the big sci-fi concepts, paradoxes, etc. aren't clearly explained. There be be long, drawn-out sequences, and I think to myself "Did they explain how this MacGuffin works or what the objective of this plan is or did I just miss it?" Part of it is that drawn-out sequences get followed by rapid-fire explanations. As an American, when the dialogue in Jodie or Mandip's northern accents gets really fast, sometimes I don't think it registers right away. I might get more if the dialogue was enunciated more or slower or if the sound mix emphasized dialogue more relative to other sounds.

If anything, I did like the 2 New Year specials with Jodie so far, both Dalek based...and the 2022 edition seems to be the same.

Any rumours yet as to who the next Doctor might be?

Any rumours yet as to who the next Doctor might be? I was googling this, and as is typical, it's mostly British actors who work in the UK who I've never heard of before. Since Russell T. Davies is returning as showrunner, several of the top names in betting odds are cast members in It's a Sin, a miniseries Davies wrote about the AIDS crisis in the UK in the 1980s. The one recognizable name (to me) of possible candidates is Michael Sheen of Frost/Nixon fame.

It's happened with supporting cast as well; Nicholas Courtney played another character before the Brigadier.

Or Frema Agyeman before she was Martha Jones.

Or Frema Agyeman before she was Martha Jones. Oh yeah, Martha's cousin. (Personally I think they should have just ignored it.)
Lalla Ward appeared as Princess Astra before Romana, though I believe it was said on screen that she modeled her regeneration on her.

Karen Gillan appeared as a “soothsayer” during the Tennant years prior to being cast as Amelia Pond.

Ian Marter had a part in the 3rd Doctor serial Carnival of Monsters a couple of years before he was Harry Sullivan.

Man, that must have been the lowest-budget New Year's Day Special since 2005. 4 daleks in a storage facility.
And Yas finally confessed what we already know....
I think there's just a few more episodes in Jodie's tenure....
