I am watching the Patrick Troughton serial “Tomb of the Cybermen” on BBC iPlayer. I am watching an episode a night so I can enjoy the cliffhangers and anticipate the resolutions.
Blimey, guys, next time give me a warning about how scary this is. It’s very atmospheric and creepy. Episode 2 ended with the Cyberman controller warning the Doctor and others, “You belong to us…you shall be like us.”
Hope I sleep well tonight. It all looks rather bleak.
(This is my first experience of the Second Doctor)

Oh, and I wish the Cybermen would teach the Daleks some humility and assimilate them. Team Cybermen get my support if such a battle ever takes place!

Daleks? Humility?

Music is definitely a repeating theme this season, first with the King Goblin and again with The Maestro. I'm usually annoyed by musical episodes but this was done extremely well.

I had to turn Space Babies off.
Really? Daleks and cybermen being replaced by this junk for this season?
Big thumbs down.

Space Babies was pretty much unwatchable. The Maestro episode was significantly better, as it moved the season story arc along. “Boom”, which premiered this past Friday was fantastic. Couple of interesting call-backs to the Matt Smith era, one completely obvious and one that requires a good knowledge of his time as The Doctor.

I thought the Space Babies were cute and the episode was solid in my mind.

I liked 'Space Babies' though it did veer into the silly, with the Bogeyman and a farting space station. I didn't care for Ruby much in the Christmas special, but the scene where she realized that one of the babies was in danger, partly because of her, and just charged off to the rescue won me over.
'Devil's Chord' I didn't care for that much. The Maestro was too over the top, and the ending was too much special effects, not enough logic. Liking the chemistry between the 2 leads, though.
I thought 'Boom' was the best episode of Who in years. (Which isn't saying much, I suppose.) But I really liked the simple situation, and all the supporting characters. (Including the next companion? Mundy was played by the actress who joins the show as a regular next year.)
And while there may be too many ongoing mysteries, I am intrigued by the recurring snow. And I have an oddball theory about Susan Twist playing a different character in each episode. Still not that invested in the Who is Ruby Sunday thing yet, but I do like her enough to want some answers. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
Overall, I'm enjoying this season more than any of the Whittaker years. My wife gave up on the show during Capaldi's run (she loved Tennant), never saw any Whittaker, watched the 14th Doctor specials, but has yet to give in and watch the current stuff. I don't want to oversell it, but damn, I wish I could discuss this show with her again.

Jinkx Monsoon, the drag race winner who played The Maestro in 'The devil's chord' had these (unfortunate) statements on the backlash the series has been getting since Gatwa (who's queer) took over the role.
and
Monsoon couldn't be more wrong to try to pin it on conservatives....the ratings since Gatwa took over have PLUNGED....Boom got the worst ratings in Doctor Who history. Those viewers who ditched the series weren't replaced by 3-5 new fans. And although it wasn't a bad episode, the damage has been done with the first 2 episodes and the rantings of its cast. Monsoon isn't helping by attacking loyal fans...just sending more of them away. I have no interest in seeing Maestro return after that foolish commentary.
I'm saying goodbye to just about everything this series used to be. It has been taken over by activists who are more interested in their messaging than, you know, cracking good sci-fi. I agree with this guy
RIP Doctor Who.

I don't see anything unfortunate about those statements.

73 Yards was good, because of the storyline it was mostly a Ruby Sunday driven episode and I enjoyed this one, I didn't suspect a thing until those last few scenes with the mysterious old lady...
It also seems this season is only 8 episodes....

To me the strongest episodes have come in the middle of the season. My top 2 would be "73 Yards" and "Dot and Bubble." Ironically, that's a Doctor Lite episode and another that's halfway to being Doctor Lite. I'm really more interested in Ruby Sunday than the Fifteenth Doctor. The funny thing is that I think I probably like Gatwa less than Whittaker, I probably like this season more than any Whittaker season. I think the writing is significantly better.

Nice 'cryptic' ending to the season (it's only 8 episodes)....I wonder if that 'absolute terror' mentioned at the end was the ratings? Although 2025 is already in the bag, 2026 and beyond is anyone's guess because they're not good.
My overall rating for this season is C....I did like Ruby...next up will be Christmas episode. Night night....

A lot of the social media commentary about the season finale, Empire of Death, seems to be negative, but I mostly enjoyed it.
This season has its share of culture war tediousness and got tired of the Fifteenth Doctor saying "I'm so, so sorry" several episodes ago, but it had an underlying bedrock of good storytelling. The Whittaker season had too much incomprehensible exposition, whereas this season had more actually happening.
I really like Ruby Sunday, especially once we got a few episodes into the season. I wish she was one of those Companions who got to stay in the transitions between Doctors.
