OK. The Comet? To be fair, he didn't really have a chance to reconsider his look, what with all the bullets flying. Who else? Black Terror? Fighting Yank? The Comet had this look

Good one! I'm glad they never tried to put him in a leisure suit! Tightie-whities never go out of style. It's a wonder they haven't tried to mess with it, because that seems to be the instinct - change for the sake of change, if there's no other reason. I think the Black Panther's all-black uniform with blue highlights has the same simple effectiveness as the Silver Surfer's look, so it always feels like a mistake to me when they try to jazz it up with necklaces or gold ear-rings or whatever it is they put on there.

Maybe this should be a separate thread but all this talk of different costumes and which ones work best makes me wonder if the question can be narrowed down to a few general rules or if it has to be er, tailored to the individual character. I think the latter: there's a big difference between the relatively elaborate designs of some of my favourite costumes - e.g. Barda, Valkyrie - and the very simple designs of others - e.g. the afore-mentioned Black Panther.

Hmm, Plastic Man, maybe? (Cue Icctrombone with an image of the pouch-tastic, armored Liefeld re-design that lasted for one month in 1993 )
