Most of the comics I'm reading at the moment are Marvels from 1982.

Some posts in my 1970s thread got me wondering about superheroes who have had two (or more) distinct looks/costumes. I'd love to hear some thoughts. So... pick a hero and explain which look you prefer. I'll start. Wonder Man. I love the jacket and sunglasses look. It's cool and interesting because it doesn't really look like a superhero costume. Any of the other costumes he's worn are fine... but they are all fairly generic superhero stuff. Nothing to get excited about.

Wasp for the win... of them all, I prefer he original classic look the best... it's simple, evocative and fitting of her name and power set. But I like the fact it changes over time and is a reflection of who Janet is. -M

Among other things, I'm a bit of a purist. More often than not, I think the original look is best when it comes to comics characters. The best of them achieve a sort of timeless quality that allows them to populate modern fiction long after the era in which they were created has passed into history. For example: I'll always prefer the Craig Flessel/Bert Christman Sandman to any of the Jack Kirby re-designs (no offense to the King). If you were a criminal, who would you be more frightened to meet in an alley or corridor as you attempted to make your escape? Exactly!

Of all Simon's costumes, I liked his original look best again... and I disliked the safari jacket costume because it looked more like something that would walk off a 70s porn set as one of the casting producers went in search of more talent than something either a hero or a man on the street of his day would wear. If he had grown a Tom Selleck stache while wearing that it would have been all over. -M

I'm a big fan of Wonder Man's safari outfit.
Much prefer Spider-Man's original togs. That thing that Daredevil is wearing is an abomination.
Sandman's original costume may be my favorite of all time. But I'm a pulp guy at heart. As an aside...the new costume was designed by Paul Norris. S&K took over after the change.

The simplicity of the symbiote costume makes it one of the most perfect designed costume in super-hero comics ever. I like the original too but that symbiote costume is just so visually perfect.
I've never read Sandman but that costume on the left is fantastic.

The Crimson Avenger. Much prefer the original pulp costume to the generic super-suit.

I was sharing some things with RikerDonegal earlier today and I like Marvel's Captain Marvel first look and they totally changed him to a different and yet more spacey look later on ... Original LookNew Look

This DC 100-Pg Batman comic had the story of "Batman's Strangest Costumes." He has different costumes, for different missions, including one reserved for Robin. Inside, we also got fan designs for a new Robin costume. If you are going to include Wonder man, though, you need this one: What was George Perez thinking?

Stephen Strange's costume evolutions... and the current Bachalo design... Of these, I actually like the pre-Cloak of Levitation design by Ditko best, I prefer the blue cloak color scheme to the red, but of all the 1st generation Marvel Age heroes, Doc least needed to have a consistent costume I think. He wasn't a costumed adventurer, and aside formthe tools he carried-the Cloak and the Eye, it would have made more sense for him to wear comfortable sensible cloathing otherwise, rather than the eastern tinged meditation pajamas he wore all the time. With his illusions to blend in when in public, it didn't really matter what he wore, but because of the needs of marketing and trademarks, he wore the pajamas all the time and people kept trying to update and make that look work. I like Doc's look, don't get me wrong, but it makes little logical sense for the character to dress that way. -M

@mrp I have never seen this look and I think it is the best look for Doctor Strange ... thanks for posting it.
