Azrael from Sword of Azrael was the best to me. The original was great and I like the bottom one here for Michael Lane as well from 2011. Looking forward to his Rebirth.

I'm also surprised nobody has yet mentioned serial costume killer Warren Worthington III, AKA the Indecisive Angel... Just a small sampling of his many costumes: the one at the bottom, a variant on the Neal Adams design lacking a chest symbol, was actually only ever seen in the first issue of The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition in 1985; it was apparently intended to be a new design for the then upcoming X-Factor series, and the rest of the team would have been similarly garbed, as the following issue's Cyclops entry showed. The design was changed before the new book went to print. Warren became the darker Archangel, and more interesting. Good costume too. but before that happened, he was still the Angel, and this was the look that worked really well for him IMO.

As Angel, he was one of my favourite characters and certainly my favourite X-Man, but as Archangel, he became just another tedious grim'n gritty character, the opposite of what he was meant to be in my opinion. It ruined the character for me, and they don't seem able to repair him. Even when they brought the younger Angel into the present day, they had to give him bloodthirsty wings of flame. What's wrong with having a character whose power is simply that he has wings and looks cool?

as far as I'm concerned, THIS is the only "good" Supergirl costume: Totally agree!

My only gripe with the red jacket and black tights version of Wonder Man is that it makes him look like a member of the THUNDER Squad to me.

Never knew there was someone else besides Jean-Paul as Azrael, but I do like that last costume too. Looks close to the original and based on a knight's armour/costume, which is what I liked about the original costume as well.

I think I still prefer Storm's classic look, but the punk thing was a brave and interesting choice at the time.

Sandman's original costume may be my favorite of all time. But I'm a pulp guy at heart. As an aside...the new costume was designed by Paul Norris. S&K took over after the change. And that makes FOUR times you've told me that now. One of these days, it's going to stick. A few words about Sandman v2.0... Norris redesigned the costume, probably under the direction of Mort Weisinger. He was adding a boy sidekick and needed something that he could reflect in the younger's costume. He was also in the Justice Society, and needed to "keep up with the Joneses", so to speak. Also, not to blend in with the similarly green-suited Johnny Thunder, i guess. Simon and Kirby two (three?) issues later refined the costume even more, dropping the cape and just upping the artistic quality of the stories. -z

The side slit in this costume really accentuates her arm to the point where she looks thick and sickly. Just nasty looking. Was this its only appearance?

A couple of my favourites. I always loved the mask on Strange...his original look is classic but this makes him a bit more interesting and mysterious
And same with Ms. Marvel...this one just looks more mature to me

In her long and distingushed history Lois Lane has gained superpowers many, many times. These are not even close to all the different costumes she has donned: 19431959
1963
1966 (A bit of a cheat I know but if Selina Kyle thinks Lois makes a convincing fake Catwoman, who am I to argue?) 2016
I actually rather like this one but {Spoiler: Click to show}Lois's career as Superwoman turned out to be very brief. As in not even surviving to the last page of her first issue brief.

I'm a big fan of Wonder Man's safari outfit. Much prefer Spider-Man's original togs. That thing that Daredevil is wearing is an abomination. Sandman's original costume may be my favorite of all time. But I'm a pulp guy at heart. As an aside...the new costume was designed by Paul Norris. S&K took over after the change. I always thought the 'safari outfit' for Wonder Man felt really 'right' as he was a movie star.. it always seemed very movie starry to me. I also have always liked the Wasp having different looks all the time, fit her character and made alot of sense. As for Spider-man.. obviously the original is a classic, but my favorite version has always been the original Spidey 2099 (the new one they're using now is terrible! I love the original Capt. Britain costume.. it's so.. British. The later ones were just copies of Captain America in UK colors, IMO, which were less interesting. I agree that Namor looks better in the black outfit.. it seems much more royal to me than the speedo look. I know it's super 90s, but I'm partial to the PAD long hair and hook hand version of Aquaman. For Donna Troy, I kinda like her as a Darkstar, but if I'm going to pick one of her Costumers, I like the black starry one the best. (Perez's Amazionan one was almost good, but overdone). No one's mentioned Iron Man yet, who has a billion variations... my fave as always been the early 80s Red and White: Some of the newer sleek ones are pretty cool too, though. Awesome idea for a thread

Really? Surprised with the Iron Man...I like the colour scheme but I think the head looks funny. Too bulky. That and the pointed shoulders make him look feminine. Not that that is bad...if it were Riri wearing this, it would make more sense to me.
As for the Spidey costume, it is not bad for 90's stuff. I think it should get an updated rendering personally.
