I literally just pmed him today, asking when he was finally going to make it over here and see the Master of Kung Fu thread he'd goaded me about getting around to for so long. I'm at a total loss. I considered Jim a real friend; one of my absolute favorite people in this community. So many fond memories of him. When I first joined CBR, one week I noticed no one had made the thread about DC titles that would be on the racks that week, so I took it upon myself to make it. I got A LOT of pms from the regulars telling me I'd overstepped my bounds and that Captain Jim was going to crush me, but when he did log in, he laughed it off and asked me if I'd like to do it permanently. He didn't even know me! Later, Jim was one of my two favorite antagonists in my review threads (I'm looking at you, Cei-U ). He'd call me out on things regularly, get downright snippy, but at the end of the argument, no matter how heated, I somehow always felt closer to the guy. There was a mutual respect there I cherished. I don't know. I feel like I should be able to write a book about Jim, but I only heard the news four minutes ago and am just sputtering along with this post. Jim meant a lot to me. I'm beyond sorry he never got a chance to make it to this community, beyond sorry I'll never get into a heated discussion with him again, and I just can't fathom that he isn't out there anymore. I don't know if he had a family, but if he did, I wish them strength. Miss you, Captain. Very well said. While I never met him outside of CBR I always counted him as a friend and mentor. With his insightful posts and pm's he taught me so much not just about the history of Batman(and comics in general) but also about critical thinking and rational debate as well. He had a way of debating, as you mentioned, that was very passionate but still maintained a sense of dignity and respect with those he was debating with. It's a skill I greatly admired, and an guide to the tenor of all my discourses both online and outside in the real world. My heart grieves for my lost friend, and goes out to all those who he loved and whom loved him in returned who also miss him on this day. I last talked to him about a month and a half ago and we spoke about bringing back a tread he once did on the Batman board, "Batman: On This Day X Years ago..." He mentioned he didn't know if he'd have the time to do it every week and I agreed to pitch in. That collaboration will now never happen but I think I may carry it on in his honor.

I hadn't talked to him since well before the CBR reset and had been missing him quite a bit. Looks like I'll be missing him more now. When you decide to bring back that thread, why not post it here too? It will be the closest we'll ever get to having Jim as a part of this new community.

I certainly will, I think both communities would enjoy it. I wish now I had saved the old thread.

Very sad news indeed. I rarely interacted with Jim but it was always a pleasure when I did. I admired and respected the hell out of the guy and will always regret never having the chance to tell him so in person. Rest well, Captain.

I'm shocked and saddened. I had no idea he was in ill health.
R.I.P. Jim "Captain Jim" Zimmerman, one of the finest posters I've ever had the pleasure of interacting with and, if his personal life was anything like his presence here, he was a fine person.
I'm sorry I never got to meet him in person.
Anyone have any idea how old he was ?

This is terrible news.
For me, he was the major personality missing in the move from CBR to CCF. Just before the big change at CCF, there was a "New Look" Batman thread where he was a major contributor and it was very informative and a fun place to discuss 1960s Batman.
Very sad.

Well, this was some crappy news to wake up to in my Facebook newsfeed. I always really liked Captain Jim. He was one of my (many) favourite contributors to the old CBR classic comics forum. Of course, I only ever knew him as a contributor to that forum and I probably only ever interacted with him a dozen or so times online, but you know how it is on message boards: you get a feel for the personality behind the avatar sometimes and there are certain posters that you just warm to. Jim was one of those for me. I was only really familiar with him as a classic comics contributor -- I rarely ventured into the DC forums on CBR, so I have no idea what he was like as a moderator. But in his posts, he could be at turns funny, knowledgeable, warm and sometimes forthright in expressing his opinion or disapproval of something that somebody else posted. I liked him and I liked seeing him contribute to discussions. It's a shame that he never made it over here and it's sad to think that we'll never see him contributing his thoughts and ideas to this community. I don't know whether he had a family or not, but my thoughts go out to anybody who is mourning him right now -- in real life or online. R.I.P. Captain Jim.

Can't do much more than echo what's been so well written. Captain Jim's good will and integrity were clear in every post. What a sad day...

I remember pming him one time where we shared out faith with each other. You're home now Jim, absent with the body and present with the Lord.

Hearing this news made CBR a little less dim. Jim was truly a gentleman. I have fond memories of talking Batman in the super old CBR Chat. My deepest sympathies to the Zimmerman family.

I feel sad about this. I didnt know the person in question well, but death is one of those things you never get used to.
