My best to his family and close friends. He was a good guy, and will, genuinely, be missed.

Very sad to hear it. He was a valuable part of this community.

Rest well. You're race is run, your victory won.

I remember pming him one time where we shared out faith with each other. You're home now Jim, absent with the body and present with the Lord. Am I remembering correctly that Jim was a minister (or whatever term his faith might use ... I know it can differ from one to the other)? If so, here's hoping his beliefs have been borne out & that he is indeed in an infinitely better place. (If not, & I'm confusing him with someone else, I of course hope the same.) Apologies if this point has really been addressed. Really busy at work right now.

Tremendous loss. He was one of the elder statesmen when I signed up on the old boards. Always a thoughtful contributor and effective moderator, Jim elevated the discourse considerably. A class act.

FYI for Lutherans they're generally called "Pastors". Regardless of our individual beliefs, he's passed the final barrier and knows the answers that we can only wonder about.

Good to know, DE. Lutherans seem to be pretty much unheard of down here in the South, though of course "pastor" isn't exactly an exotic term.

Neat that the obit mentions his fannish interests. If it's like most places these days (alas), the family paid by the word, if not the letter, for that.

Jim was one of the people I respected the most at CBR; he was always so... mature, I guess is the word. I can't believe he's gone. All the best to his family, for whom this must be devastating.

The obit also tells us that he was a pastor at Methodist and Quaker churches rather than Lutheran. Might be easier to find Methodists and Quakers down South than Lutherans. That's an interesting combination; I wouldn't have guessed that there was much overlap between Methodist and Quaker clergy.
RIP, Captain Jim. You'll be missed.

One of his online friends already signed it. Is that anyone we know?
