I'm sure there's one of Aesop's fables that applies here.

In more optimistic news, after losing my dream job half a year ago 5 months in and switching to one that pays 1/3 less and writing 14 job applications without scoring a single interview, I was now invited to an interview from a place I did not even send an application to. I had applid to a local jail and when they turned me down, they said that they basically thought I was a good candidate and if it was ok to send my paperwork to the state government in case another penitentiary was looking to hire. This would be a 90 minute commute, but 50% more money is 50% more money.

Glad to hear you had a great FCBD Shax! Ours was pretty good too. I came home with more money than I left the house with anyways, as we sold a decent number of books and prints at our table today. Met a lot of great people, got to see Chad Lambert again as he stopped by the local shop after his signing was done at another shop here in the Miami Valley. Chad if you are not familiar with him was the writer of the FUBAR book among the FCBD offerings this year, has done a number of bio comics for Blue Water (The SNL book, the George Carlin book, The Lucille Ball book and others), and has had a recurring feature going in Dark Horse Presents for a bit, off and on. Our local shop and shop owner make a cameo in one of those DHP issues. He's a great guy and I run into him all the time on the local con circuit. Amy picked up the Rocket Raccoon book and the Guardians book (she loves fictional raccoons and is super excited for the Guardians movie even though she's never read a Guardians comic in her life). I picked up the Uncle Scrooge/Donald Duck offering, the Archie Digest and the Rise of the Magic zero issue as the concept sounds interesting but I was still a little leery of the book, so wanted to check it out. Our shop was out of free books except for the Fantagraphics book about hip hop culture by 3, and I heard from a lot of folks that this was the case with most of the 5-6 shops in the Miami Valley area, so I am guessing early turn out was pretty big as some of those shops order quite a few books. Our shop seemed to be doing a fairly brisk business as well, which was good, and hopefully some new comic fans were created today. -M there's a few picks of some of our happy customers on the Twilight Star facebook page dispaying their loot (link in sig) Looks like a great day for you, mrp. I had to work saturday ,as do every year. I still kinda participated by donating two long boxes to the library near my job. I didn't really see any books that I needed to have this year anyway.

Best of luck Thanks... as a non-smoker, non-driver, the only areas were I could cut down on expenses were comic books, food quality, vacations and "pampering." I am really over shopping at Aldi and trade waiting without knowing if I can ever afford those trades. And I need a vacation. Badly. Of course, if I do get this job, the "probation period" is gonna be another 6 months during which I will have to give 100% and won't be allowed to take a vacation.

For those of you who are fans of video games I'd like some advice. I believe I've reached an impasse. Case in point, over the last few months, I've been trying to played Oblivion (the precursor of Skyrim) and for those not familiar with it, it's VERY time consuming and vast RPG. I feel like I'm wasting an enormous chunk of life playing games like this. More importantly, it severely cuts into my book/comic reading time. Has anyone had to quit playing these games, if not video games in general, simply because it was preventing you from reading as much as you'd like?

When I got married I had to prioritize my time a lot more. Some hobbies got thrown out in the process. I still play the big bad video games, I just take a lot longer to complete them now. It might take me 2-3 months to beat a 40 hour game now. I save my comic reading to before bed and on the weekends (I get up at like 6 am on weekends because of the dog).

I've considered only playing on my off days from work and on vacation days. The more I consider it, that sort of strict regime would probably be the best. This way, reading would take priority five days out of the week. I think I need to get in your mindset, maddog. I need to get over not being able to become a vegetable for hours and hours out of a day just to finish a game in a week.

I was archiving some of my threads from CBR, and found a thread I had started in their strange little "Comic Blog Tattoo" sub-forum. For a few minutes I had the urge to archive the entirety of that sub-forum, but I abandoned that idea when I saw that they had not preserved the legendary "what is the meaning of bee tattoo" thread. And so, I will let the Comic Blog Tattoo fade into obscurity, remembered probably only by me and Dan B., who appropriated the forum to discuss female-fronted musical groups.

That's what I do, and I have to say that it makes for a far more memorable experience. I still remember, a few years back, when I sat down over the course of a vacation to play Final Fantasy I from beginning to end. It was an actual experience, not just something I fit into my life. I treat novels the same way. I read comics anytime, but I set aside real purposeful time for novels.

I get more time in the fall and winter to play video games now. So when I play I do them then. I play a quick game of Madden now here and there .

I've been considering only reading comics and short-story collections during the week, and if I'm not in the mood to play games, read some of the novels I have backlogged on my off days. If I want to every read Marvel's Silver Age and Batman from 1979 till the early 90's (inspired in part by your Batman thread) before I die I'm going to have to prioritize this way.

Here's a question for you all: what (if any) is your morning internet routine?
I start by checking my email at the Century Link homepage, then boot up Boomer Radio and come here to read the overnight posts. From here, it's over to check messages on Facebook, followed by early morning rounds of Criminal Case and Avengers Alliance (FB games). After I work the LA Times crossword, I stop in at Mark Evanier's blog, come back here to check for replies to anything I posted earlier and then go offline to start work.
Of course there are as many days I vary from this routine as those where I follow it meticulously but that's the general pattern.
You?
Cei-U! I summon the comfort of a well-worn rut!
