I have my phone setup to only open this site in desktop mode. It works surprisingly well on mobile, whereas the mobile version is hard to navigate.

But it's still a pain to add pictures, videos, etc. Which isn't always a this site problem, but often a problem with other sites on mobile. I'm still very much a computer oriented person over mobile.

Oh, yeah, totally agree. I always prefer to do anything that involves input on a computer over a tablet or mobile device if I have the option. Typing on a touch screen is still abysmal in 2020.

Since leaving the hospital my CELL is my only internet access. State doesn't allow personal use for internet, no internet at home so its ALL my phone. Its doable but has limitations. Why I no longer post in the 10/20/30/40/50 years ago thread and why I never post images.

My new phone didn't ship with a charger (thanks Apple!), and my iPad's chargeblock doesn't use a USB-C, so I'm boarding from my computer to try to conserve my battery as best I can. Gotta say, I'm not loving it. Everythings's all spread out horizontally. But I do see people's signatures now, which is kinda neat. I can't stand logging in from my phone, personally. So many of the basic functions I utilize to navigate the site aren't available. I have no idea how you folks do it. For what it's worth, proboards has been promising for years now that their next major update will drastically improve mobile functions, but I guess we'll see when we see.

There was a time a few years ago that I didn’t have cable or wifi in the house I would take my laptop to either Dunkin’ Donuts or the Library for the free internet. Starbucks has it too but with the virus, everything is closed.

I like the stripped-down style of mobile, but I also don’t post much beyond regular text. One issue with mobile now, which is not unique to ProBoards, is that when I click on a drop down menu, instead of the options dropping down from the menu they appear on a sort of “wheel” at the bottom of the screen is very unintuitive and annoying.

There are four different ways to experience the site on mobile, so if one isn't working for you, here are the other options: 1. Default mobile view happens when you type classiccomics.org into a mobile browser and choose no other options 2. You can access the site via Tapatalk, which is an app that presents the site differently. Some folks prefer this method. 3. You can type classiccomics.org into a mobile browser, scroll down to the bottom of any page, and choose "desktop view". This will simulate how it appears on a desktop computer. Lots more options, but much more crowded. 4. Once you've done #3 and browse a page or two, your browser will ask you if you want to try the "simplified view". This is yet another mobile translation of the website that may be more to your liking. Incidentally, "Mars needs Kudo"? I'm not familiar with that Berkely Breathed story.

Aha
mars came about because I was listening to “Mars Needs Women” at the moment I was picking a name. I went with needs when I signed back up just because it was the next word in the song title. Kudo is for the main character (Shinichi/Jimmy Kudo) in Case Closed, my favorite manga.

Icc and Cei-U talking about their favorite MCU scenes is making me want to rewatch Winter Soldier.

Are there any fluent Japanese speakers or readers in the forum? I'd like someone to translate the phrases or words in each picture into English for me. Thanks.

Isn't there an app where you can auto-translate through your phone camera? Probably, but given that it's important that it's 100% right and given how bad the online translators into English are, I'd prefer to have a fluent Japanese speaker tell me what it says. I've also posted it on Reddit to see if anyone there knows.

It's wise to rely on someone who actually speaks Japanese... When I was a kid, the neighbouring town's judo club had jackets sporting Japanese kanji; it looked darn cool, but at a tournament we learned from a Japanese referee that they spelled "shrimp soup".

When I was a kid, the neighbouring town's judo club had jackets sporting Japanese kanji; it looked darn cool, but at a tournament we learned from a Japanese referee that they spelled "shrimp soup". Heh. This reminded me of something from my college days: one of the floor-mates in my dorm went to the American school in Tokyo (he was a non-Japanese American - his parents were teachers there) and he noted that just like a lot of the kanjis seen on apparel and other things in the US mainly spelled nonsense, so too in Japan there were English words on clothing, writing utensils, notebooks, etc. that were similarly, often hilariously, nonsense. His favorite was a t-shirt he had which featured a picture of a sailboat with the words "Fans of Uncle Sh*t" written around it in a circle. He later brought me back a t-shirt that had a circular college-type logo with a picture of a bulldog in the middle and 'Bomp-dog Campion' and 'Peevish' and 'Easy-going' written around it. I wish I still had that shirt, but I wore it to tatters years ago.
