Are there any fluent Japanese speakers or readers in the forum? I'd like someone to translate the phrases or words in each picture into English for me. Thanks.  
the 1st one is:
"Self Travel"
and the 2nd one is:
"Ego Tripper" -
(lyrics by Paul King)
so I'm assuming the 2nd one is song card?

^here's the helpful site I use for translating language when in an image:
(drop image, or link to location.. then highlight over image, and choose either "google" or "microsoft" translate, to get the translation
自我旅行 = Zìwǒ lǚxíng = Self travel

It's wise to rely on someone who actually speaks Japanese... When I was a kid, the neighbouring town's judo club had jackets sporting Japanese kanji; it looked darn cool, but at a tournament we learned from a Japanese referee that they spelled "shrimp soup". Heh. This reminded me of something from my college days: one of the floor-mates in my dorm went to the American school in Tokyo (he was a non-Japanese American - his parents were teachers there) and he noted that just like a lot of the kanjis seen on apparel and other things in the US mainly spelled nonsense, so too in Japan there were English words on clothing, writing utensils, notebooks, etc. that were similarly, often hilariously, nonsense. His favorite was a t-shirt he had which featured a picture of a sailboat with the words "Fans of Uncle Sh*t" written around it in a circle. He later brought me back a t-shirt that had a circular college-type logo with a picture of a bulldog in the middle and 'Bomp-dog Campion' and 'Peevish' and 'Easy-going' written around it. I wish I still had that shirt, but I wore it to tatters years ago. There's a lot more of that sort of thing at www.engrish.com/ - updated almost every day. |

I then scrolled down and got to this
It makes no sense. I'm guessing having gift card money doesn't count then?

Surely that’s a way to combat people buying reviews, but I would think a company of Amazon’s size could probably come up with a better method.
Speaking of Amazon, I wanted to buy some digital books last night, but I can’t buy them through the Amazon or Kindle apps, because I’m on iPhone and iPad. So, I logged in on the browser to buy them and it made me enter my password, then enter it again with a captcha, which sent a text to my phone with a link to click and when I clicked it I had to then verify that I did indeed want to log into the site. Extremely customer friendly.

Yeah, as I mentioned in another thread sometime last year, Amazon's review policy is really frustrating. In the past few years before it, I was posting reviews for books by or that include work by people I know. Now I can't do that anymore, because I hardly ever buy anything from Amazon.com (I do occasionally buy books from Amazon.co.uk's Marketplace, but that doesn't count apparently). A go-around is to post a review on one of the Amazon sister pages based in other countries - I've posted a few reviews on the UK Amazon. Sometimes they get reposted to the Amazon main page, although in the case of Cei-U! 's book, that hasn't been the case so far (although for some reason you can see a lousy 2-star review from France, in which the guy left the low rating because he's complaining about the Amazon's service, i.e., the packaging, because the book was apparently damaged). |

I suspect it's actually a sincere effort to rid the site of fake reviews written by people working for the manufacturers. Far too many of these on Amazon.

I suspect it's actually a sincere effort to rid the site of fake reviews written by people working for the manufacturers. Far too many of these on Amazon. Yeah, I'm sure they're trying to do something posiive, I just can't imagine they can't come up with a better way. Not that I have any solutions in mind, but I'd like to think with the resources of Amazon I could come up with one. |

I really want the story behind these images So, this year it's 25 years since the band I was in back in the 90s released our debut single, "Egotripper". We reformed last year (shhh...it hasn't been announced yet) and among lots of other exciting stuff, we're working on designs for a 25th anniversary t-shirt. The design we like best has the word Egotripper in English, with it repeated in Japanese below -- just because it looks cool and also because we had a small but loyale Japanese following (we sold around 5,000 copies of our one and only album out there). Our guitarist used an online translator to come up with the Japanese ideograms for Ego Trip (that's the yellow image). But I noticed that it looked different to how the song title appeared on the Japanese version of our album (that's the white image). I've had a total of three responses on Reddit from Japanese speakers and they all say the same as bert above. So, good job I checked. As I and RR said earlier, it's always best to check with someone who speaks the language you want translated. Language is a tricky thing! |

The symbols in the yellow strip seem to be kanji, the more formal script derived from Chinese ideograms. (That's probably why online translation services also translate it as "self traveller"). @bert ? What do you think? It's really cool that you got fans in Japan, Confessor!!! Here's hoping an eventual tour there is in the cards! |

We all felt that the Kanji script that says "Self Travel" or "Self Journey" looked cooler than the more accurate Katakana script, which is doubtless because it's more formal. The Japanese record company who liscenced our album for release there were actually in the process of organising a tour for 2000, but it never happened because we split up that year. So yeah, getting out there in the next year or two to play some shows would be cool and feel sort of like revisiting unfinished business. We used to get quite a lot of Japanese fans come and see us whenever we played in London. We also used to get sent presents from fans in Japan on occasion and I even had one female Japanese fan fly all the way over to Heathrow airport just to sleep with me! Those were the days.  |
