Fascinating. That makes a lot of sense. We all felt that the Kanji script that says "Self Travel" or "Self Journey" looked cooler than the more accurate Katakana script, which is doubtless because it's more formal. What an interesting language. The Japanese record company who liscenced our album for release there were actually in the process of organising a tour for 2000, but it never happened because we split up that year. So yeah, getting out there in the next year or two to play some shows would be cool and feel sort of like revisiting unfinished business. We used to get quite a lot of Japanese fans come and see us whenever we played in London. We also used to get sent presents from fans in Japan on occasion and I even had one female Japanese fan fly all the way over to Heathrow airport just to sleep with me! Those were the days. You were truly a rock god Ha ha! Hardly. But it does show you the sort of weird stuff that properly famous musicians must have to put up with, if even somebody from a real obscure cult band like me gets that kind of obsessive fan behaviour.

So, this year it's 25 years since the band I was in back in the 90s released our debut single, "Egotripper". We reformed last year (shhh...it hasn't been announced yet) and among lots of other exciting stuff, we're working on designs for a 25th anniversary t-shirt. The design we like best has the word Egotripper in English, with it repeated in Japanese below -- just because it looks cool and also because we had a small but loyale Japanese following (we sold around 5,000 copies of our one and only album out there). Our guitarist used an online translator to come up with the Japanese ideograms for Ego Trip (that's the yellow image). But I noticed that it looked different to how the song title appeared on the Japanese version of our album (that's the white image). If I'm not mistaken, the top line of the white image is written in katakana, a script commonly used when transliterating foreign words. It spells Eh Go To Ri Shi Ha Baa, close enough to "egotripper". The symbols in the yellow strip seem to be kanji, the more formal script derived from Chinese ideograms. (That's probably why online translation services also translate it as "self traveller"). @bert ? What do you think? It's really cool that you got fans in Japan, Confessor!!! Here's hoping an eventual tour there is in the cards! agreed. . tho I'm not super fluent. I barely (I mean BARELY) get by, with just a handful of phrases that I made huge use of while in Japan this translate picture served me very well tho. . so that's why I used it here to try to help! I'm sure there is no Japanese word for "Ego" .. so that's why it's using the Kanji for "Self". . . and "Tripper", is just using Kanji for "Travel" they both look cool to me tho. . why not list both on the shirt? *although. . and I"m gonna be honest here - if you're making these for Japanese fans? I'd bet you big $$ thy would prefer it to be in English on the shirt (possibly with the KataKana Japanese translation under it). Having visited the Country, I saw TONS of advertising and clothing logos. .all in English.
just my 2cents

I agree with bert. They would buy up the English version in a second.

Reminds me of all those import Duran Duran albums from Japan that came with OBI stickers with Japanese font on them...I had no idea what they were saying but I bet it wasn't shrimp soup.

No, these aren't *for* Japanese fans especially. They're for the UK and everywhere else. The Japanese wording will be used alongside the English word Egotripper mostly because we thought it looked kinda cool. But it has occurred to us that we might sell a few to old Japanese fans too. Either way, it's important that the translation is right, so the Katakana script it is!

The Japanese release of our album had an interview with me reproduced in Japanese inside the CD booklet. Thing is, I never gave our Japanese record label an interview to use. So, either they took one from some publication or other and translated it...or they just made it up! Either way, I have no idea what I'm saying in this interview.

I second that motion, I've really enjoyed listening to the songs you've put up on facebook from various gigs you've done.

COVID tales of 2021. Same day my office in Phienix tells ALL State employees who are working in the field (as in contact with other people/patients/etc) they ARE NOT to come into the city office to do any work so as to NOT risk us in the office doing the all important clerical/electronic work, I get a text from my Aunt that ALL 11 of them who got together Christmas day have tested Positive.
For 2 weeks since Christmas day they were all "sick" with the flu they have said. I told them over the weekend they need to be tested. The flu lasts only days and NOT 2 weeks straight with no relief. So Monday morning they went and tested and received the results last night that they had COVID and to isolate at home for another 2 weeks before testing again.
I was the sole holdout refusing to attend and their family was upset I wouldn't come join in the festivities. They can be angry while I am safe and healthy. They wouldn't listen to reason and common sense so now they understand it the hard way. My aunt has heart issues so now she gets to wear a monitor vest 24 hrs a day and may end up hospitalized at any moment. My uncle has 1 lung from cigarette smoking all his life and still won't quit them.
Yeah, happy holidays eh? File this one under the I told you so! Welcome 2021, the new year is the same year as it ever was.

Welcome 2021, the new year is the same year as it ever was. Happy for you that you made the right decision. I am amazed that various of my relatives who gathered for both Thanksgiving and Christmas have not taken sick. Although given their loyalty to the various Covid myths, and their infrequent communication with me, I probably would never hear if they had. I do hope that your family members get through their outbreak without any further problems.

Well, today , as my wife was exiting the ferry to Staten Island, My wife tripped on a hole on the sidewalk and fractured her left ankle. She had the presence of mind to file an accident report with the people in charge of the terminal and then I drove her to the local hospital. I'm still stunned.

Hope you’re not still in the hospital. You’ll take good care of her, I’m sure, but what a stroke of bad luck. So sorry for you both.
