Well, today , as my wife was exiting the ferry to Staten Island, My wife tripped on a hole on the sidewalk and fractured her left ankle. She had the presence of mind to file an accident report with the people in charge of the terminal and then I drove her to the local hospital. I'm still stunned.
wow, ankle injuries suck and hospitals are a pain to go to right now...hope she heals ok

So glad I am doing 4 days 10 hour shifts, 6am to 5pm this week. Since I'm a contract worker, Monday was holiday with no pay for me and we are quite busy so the boss asked if I would want to make up the missed 8 hours. Since I'm hoping to get hired on permanently I said yes with no hesitation.
Mentally tiring but a great reason to avoid news all week.
Come in from work, watch a dvd while eating dinner then sleep. Avoid everything else. A nice way to spend this week of transition if I do say so myself.

I work 12 hour shifts. So my life feels like all or nothing. If I work several days in a row I know very little what is happening in the world. When I get home from work I usually watch something on MeTV to unwind and go to bed. I "catch up" with life on my days off.

So, in my town, there's a Facebook group where you can give away stuff you don;t need/want anymore, and I've been using it to clear out old clothes/books/games, etc. The other night, I put up some shirts and a woman who contacted me about them wrote, "By the way, I saw you have a comic as your profile picture. My brother used to write for Marvel and DC." I replied, "Steve Skeates? I know he's from here and used to bartend at Shorts." Long story short, she came by to pick up the shirts and handed me these:

Is Skeates still living in your neck of the woods? I think he'd be fun to have a beer with. Loved his Aquaman comics run.

I couldn't tell from what she said. I let her know if he wanted to become involved in the comics stuff RIT is doing when things become a little more normal to contact me.

Reminds me of the time I was asked to share my table at a crowded McDonalds here in Tacoma, and the gentlemen who joined me turned out to be the domestic partner of Merry Mayer, Sheldon Mayer's daughter and the model for Sugar of "Sugar & Spike." Unfortunately, I was moving to Los Angeles the next day and never saw my new friend again.
Cei-U! I summon the bad timing!

Right after I graduated from college, I got a job managing a comic book shop in my hometown. One afternoon, I was sitting there reading the Elektra: Roots of Evil mini when a customer came up to the counter. He saw what I was reading and asked if I liked it, and I told him that I did, particularly the art. He said "Glad you do", bought a few books, and left, which I thought was strange, but comic book fans can be a little strange at times, so I shrugged it off as social awkwardness and weird choice of phrase.
One of the other customers asked if I knew who that was, which I didn't. It was Scott McDaniel, who is from my hometown and lived right down the street from the shop. I'd seen him in the store many times but never knew who he was. He came back in the next week and I struck up a conversation with him about his Marvel work, which we continued week after week until I quit to get a "real" job.

Kind of disappointed that he had to buy his own comics. Aren't pros on a comp list ?

Nice story. Kind of disappointed that he had to buy his own comics. Aren't pros on a comp list ? Only if they have an exclusive contract. And then they only get comics from that publisher.

IIRC, and this was 26 years ago, he was picking up DC books. I would have assumed, based on his Daredevil run, he may have been exclusive to Marvel at the time, as he didn't do his first DC work until the 2000s.
