Nice story. Kind of disappointed that he had to buy his own comics. Aren't pros on a comp list ? Only if they have an exclusive contract. And then they only get comics from that publisher. From other comments I've heard, it sometimes took a long time for someone to actually get on the list. On the other hand, it seems like a lot of people stay on it long after they stopped contributing on a regular basis.

Man, John Colicos was so good voicing Apocalypse in the X-Men 90s cartoon. The other day I watched the episode where Archangel tries to take vengeance on him, and it featured some of his greatest lines from that show "I am the rocks of the eternal shore. Crash against me and be broken!" "There exists no freedom FROM me... there is only freedom THROUGH me!" Awesome stuff.
John Colicos was also Baltar in the original Battlestar Galactica.

Well, it was going to happen eventually. COVID has finally hit my family, as my mom tested positive for it yesterday, along with pneumonia.
She apparently had been confused the past couple of days, like she was early last year before my sister and I pulled her out of the house she shared with our dad. The facility was giving the vaccine shots yesterday morning and she got hers, then collapsed a few hours later. Went to the hospital, where they first diagnosed the pneumonia, and then the COVID test came back positive overnight. No update since this morning, but they're communicating with just my sister, as she had medical POA.
I'm praying for recovery, while at the same time praying that if it's God's will that she goes, that she goes quickly and painlessly. Her life has been completely upended the past 15 months or so with her cognitive issues, having to move out of her house, being unable to drive any longer, and not being able to see her friends or enjoy the activities (bridge, mah jongg) that she used to. She isn't happy with her circumstances, and while I would miss her (as would my wife and girls), I don't want her to suffer in a life that she no longer really wants to live.

I don’t know what to say Cap. I’m praying for your family that you are strong in the coming days.

As well as Kor in Star Trek, from TOS to DS9! Colicos knew how to play a great villain!

Very sorry to hear this, The Captain. I wish we could do something to help take away your anguish. You did as much as you could have, I'm sure. I hope you're not berating yourself. And, as painful as it may be to admit, you're right. Sometimes, it is just a person's time and he or she wants to let go. I saw it with my parents and my wife's. Hoping for the best and wishing you the strength and stamina you need to endure, whatever happens.

Yeah, The Captain, what you said struck a chord, I went through something quite similar with my father last summer. I think I know what you're feeling, and I hope in your case there's a happier outcome.

You're a good man, The Captain. I felt just the same way for my father, who suffered from Alzheimer's for ten years. "To everything there is a season" is a thought I always found comforting, even if it is always tinged with regret.

The Captain I know this is hard. I am watching Alzheimer's take away the mother that I knew and loved. She recently said she was getting tired of living because it is such an effort to concentrate to be around other people. May God Grant your family strength.

Thanks to all. My sister reported late yesterday that Mom has "stabilized" on the pneumonia and COVID front, although as we've seen time and time again during this pandemic, folks seem OK only to crater out of nowhere. My concern now is her mental state. She's alone in the hospital, my sister can't go and explain what's happening, and she isn't going to be able to understand anything the doctors or nurses tell her about the situation. When she gets to go home, she'll have to quarantine for two weeks and the facility isn't allowing non-medically-necessary visitors for the foreseeable future, so I don't know the next time she'll see family or friends. This is going to be really tough on her and with her backsliding recently with her cognitive issues, I'm very concerned about what effect this incident is going to have on potentially worsening them. Roquefort Raider, the idea of "seasons" is one that my wife and I talk about all of the time. We recognize that not every period is pleasant, but that they all create some kind of wisdom and understanding to help us through the subsequent ones.

I really hope all goes well with your mom, Captain. My own mother's health's been in decline over the past two years, so I understand the stress you're under.
