Thanks for the kind words, people. She's back in her own bed, now, and the pain has abated even if the other symptoms haven't. It wasn't Clostridium dificile as I feared (her having been in the hospital in december), so that's pretty good. Fingers crossed! Hope everything works out fine RR.

Roquefort RaiderThanks for sharing positive news about your Mom and thanks for letting us know of how she feels and all; thankfully she at home and doing good and back in familiar territory.

I'm like super exited and happy right now! But wait, What?! You can control it from your phone?? Do explain! Is it an app? That you just download? Do you have android or iOS? Sorry, I'm just super curious and would like to know for future customers! Certain apps, like YouTube and Netflix, are already enabled for use with Chromecast. There's a button in the app that connects your phone to the Chromecast and tells it what to stream to your TV. Instead of having a dedicated remote for the Chromecast, you just use the app's on screen controls to control the video. It also works from a computer and can be used to mirror the Chrome browser if you want to stream something that doesn't have Chromecast compatibility, like Amazon Prime. Oh now that's actually neat! I had no idea about the computer aspect! I'm gonna jot this down for the future. Thank you so much!

Only an hour and change to go, but 2016 isn't done sucking big time! I just drove five and a half hours to get to the bedside of my mom in the emergency ward. It's either a new bout of the infection that kept her on intravenous antibiotics for three weeks in early december, or a brand new infection. Whatever be the case, she's in terrible pain and I hate that. For crying out loud. It's irrational to be angry at an arbitrarily defined length of time like a year, but... I am. I'm sorry to hear this. I'll keep you and yours in my prayers and hope things start looking up. *hugs*

I'm conviced that just knowing what's wrong -and knowing that it's not something potentially lethal- contributes a lot to a person's recovery. Especially when you're 80... Lots of things tend to go wrong at that age. Thanks for the kind thoughts!

Thanks my friend for info Uh, gentle clarification, wickedmountain and @mechagodzilla . This was a 1978 comic. Well beyond even the furthest dating of the end of the Silver Age.

Happy New Year one and all.

With the advent of the New Year, I believe I've come to a major decision. The time for me is right to apply for retirement benefits. I've got money saved and the move out of Manhattan has dramatically lowered my monthly living expenses. I'm still healthy to enjoy retirement and look younger than my age as well (so I'm told ). After over 45 years of continual work, I'm ready for a life of ease and not being answerable to others. The way I have it figured, after paying rent and all the bills, I'll have $900 left for food and anything else. Seems I can get by comfortably even without dipping into my savings Will I just wind up getting bored? Possibly after a year or so but I'm sure that's something easily rectified. I can't come up with a good reason to postpone it any longer

2017 will be a year of change for my family. My oldest daughter will be getting married. My youngest daughter will graduate from college. Our house will be paid off. I am going to work part time (25 hrs/week instead of 50 hrs/week).
My wife & I hope to do some traveling while we are still young & healthy. We have seen some of our friends & relatives die or have poor health & not get to enjoy their retirement...so with the big bills (mortgage, college, wedding) paid off we decided to be semi retired & both work part time for the next 10-12 years. We started to plan this several years ago & did the big ticket items like the roof, windows, furnace, new cars, etc so we could cut back our hrs. This way we don't have to touch our retirement money for another decade & in an emergency one of us can increase our work hrs so we don't have to deplete our savings.
