JLA - Hollywood Actors and Actressesand a few surprises too ... And others Characters too. My selections of Hollywood Stars of the past to play the Justice League of America. Green Lantern - played by Robert Redford He would had to dye his hair brown and have the all the tools to play Hal Jordan as Green Lantern - he has the right stuff and easily can be a Test Pilot in that role. His good looks would serve him very nicely. Martian Manhunter - Woody Strode He is physically imposing and quite tall to pull it off and to me, he would play the part of the Manhunter of Mars; I considered Yul Brynner for that role - but he's 5'6" - Strode is 6'4". Superman - Rock Hudson Another 6'4" Actor and I felt that many of you here are thinking of Gregory Peck - but I prefer the boyish charm of a Young Rock Hudson over Peck any day and I felt he has the looks and moxie to pull it off as the Man of Steel. Wonder Woman - Jane Russell This doctored picture of her wearing the costume itself is enough to convince you that she can play Wonder Woman quite easily. Elisabeth Taylor would had the star power to play Wonder Woman - but she 5'2" ... Russell at 5'7". Advantage Russell. Batman - Errol Flynn His dashing performance in Robin Hood and among other films that he starred in would have the right tools and handsome face to play the Millionaire Playboy - Bruce Wayne in this film. Aquaman - Kirk Douglas He has all the making of playing the King of the Seven Seas - many of you are wondering why I didn't select Buster Crabbe - he would be my 2nd choice to play him - but if you have the camera playing tricks on the audiences - Kirk has all the right stuff and star power to pull it off. Flash - Paul Newman He and Robert Redford would be reunited for another blockbuster and having them together would attracts a wide audiences and I felt that he has the making to play Police Scientist Barry Allen and I felt that his good looks would help him alot.

Later on, Secondary Characters and other actors that could play the part of the Extended Satellite Era of the Justice League and my picks for Lois Lane, Vickie Vale, Carol Ferris, and others and I will make this a fun thread for all of us here. Plus Villains to play the part of Lex Luthor and the Clown Prince of Crime as well.

Kirk Douglas aside, these are impressively spot-on, especially Woody Strode.

Jane Russell really wasn't that great an actress. I don't know if I'd want to sit through two hours of her as Wonder Woman. She'd fill out the costume, though (and a couple more!). I'd go more with James Garner for Hal Jordan, than Redford. He had more of the personality. Might actually liven Hal up a bit. I might go for Redford for the Flash, over Newman. Newman could be an interesting Green Arrow, though. Hudson's feels a bit laconic for Superman, to me. It's hard to top George Reeves, from that era. Hudson is fine physically; he just comes across as more sophisticated than Superman should, and he never really excelled at All-American types.
Aquaman, though; you gotta have Lloyd Bridges! Come on, Seahunt? Pefect for it. You just reverse it and have him trapped on land, "It was at that point my lungs were aching for water!"
Strode is another who is more physical, than emotional. You really wouldn't capture J'onn, the way Carl Lumly did on Justice League. Leonard Nimoy would be good, for that, or Mark Lenard. Maybe have one of them dub him.
No one but Dick Van Dyke could be Ralph Dibny, though.
Mickey Rooney can be Snapper Carr, as long as he dies by the second act.

Great thread. I hope you do more like this. I would like to see the JSA & early Avengers (first year) threads like this also.

I think Kirk Douglas as Aquaman is inspired!
How about Cyd Charisse as Wonder Woman? Or maybe Elaine Stewart?
(I'm also thinking Tab Hunter might make a good Aquaman.)

Lloyd Bridges as Aquaman - Interesting Choice here, Cody but I'm having some second thoughts about him and to be honest with you I just thinking of him of being a Television Actor not a Movie Star like Kirk Douglas of whom that I would cast as Aquaman. Your pick for Aquaman is an intriguing one indeed and I have to admit he would be an excellent choice to play the King of the Seven Seas.

Gil Kane said he patterned Hal Jordan after Paul Newman.

What? No one thinks David Ogden Stiers was the perfect casting choice for Martian Manhunter? I mean an alien shapechanger can have any body type right? -M

Please don't think I'm picking nits. It's a fun thread. But chronologically there are some issues with your picks, Juggernaut. Errol Flynn died in 1959. Robert Redford didn't make his film debut until 1962 and really didn't break out until 1965.

Slam, in all intention I wanted this to be a fun thread and I threw out the chronological aspects and I do know that Flynn died in 1959 and Newman career took off in 64/65 like you said here ... I've simply ignore those facts and go with my own heart and experiences of watching movies in my lifetime. Slam, you aren't picking nits ... you have every rights to question my judgment and I just wanted to simply pass that altogether.

@mrp
He's more like a Television Actor than a Movie Actor in my own opinion and if this was a Television Movie - He would be my 1st and only choice.
