I really like collected editions that contain 3 or so standard tpbs. Short enough that I can read through the whole thing in an evening (depending on the series), but long enough to include a bunch of comics!

Me too, but when they're collecting series that are still running (for instance the East Of West OHCs), the wait between volumes can be excruciating.

I broke out my Masterworks featuring the Cap stories from TOS 59-81. Starting with the fourth or fifth story, Lee and Kirby start telling stories with Cap and Bucky which take place during WWII. I'm extremely disappointed with this. I want to read stories that are foundational to the Marvel Universe. I just can't get into these stories. Honestly, I've quit reading this volume. Maybe I'll come back to it down the road.

Even worse is the wait when the companies "test" the waters for sales and reprints of old stuff with only a 1st collection and then you wait and wait and wait hoping and wondering if the rest of the series will ever come out.... And then there is the agony of waiting 6 months or more at a time for an entire series to be collected as you blow through each collection in a day. Looking at you MOKF. 4 books over a 2 year span to ship. Oh the pain. Do i wait for all of it or do i plunge in as it comes? AAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH

I've never really followed what was going on with the Marvel Masterworks books, but now that I'm really into reading a few of the titles I have a question. I've seen a bit of talk about some fans feeling all they wanted to see reprinted from Marvel has now been reprinted. Is there any talk about the Masterworks program being discontinued, or does it look like they'll keep going indefinitely?

Sadly, I think I'm going to have to start buying some paperback Masterworks in order to keep reading the titles I want to. Not sure yet but it's looking that way. I really dig having the Masterworks I want in hardback.

I'm guessing that the HC Masterworks didn't sell as much because of the price. The SC are more affordable.

The softcovers were discontinued a good few years ago, but if you've not read much then there should be plenty of older material knocking about to keep you busy.

They seem to still be releasing a couple every month.. they do seem to be focusing on the main titles now, so they're collecting mostly Bronze Age stuff, but they're still being released for sure.

They sure are, and I am still buying them. I have The S pectacular Spider-Man Vol 1 on pre-order from Amazon, for July, which I am looking forward to very much. I mention this volume specifically as it is the 250th Marvel Masterworks volume!

I made the bittersweet decision to start buying Masterworks paperbacks, rather than hardbacks. I really wanted to get a copy of Amazing Spider-Man Masterworks volume 8, which reprints issues 68-77. I was faced with buying the hardback for $75 or the paperback for $15. I just couldn't pull off getting the hardback for that price. Additionally, the next several Amazing Spider-Man hardbacks I need would have cost me as much or more. I had to face the reality I needed to switch to paperback format, at least at times. The bottom line is I'll get to read and own these issues!

Yeah, the hardback prices are insane. It's a shame volume 8 is the last paperback, so you'll have no choice but to pay the extra after that
