I find that you can often get them deeply discounted if you are willing to look around... I have 15-20 HC masterworks of various titles, and didn't pay more than $15 for any of them. Granted, the less popular stuff is easier than Spidey, but still...

Yeah, the hardback prices are insane. It's a shame volume 8 is the last paperback, so you'll have no choice but to pay the extra after that I was wondering why I couldn't find paperbacks for the rest. You answered that for me, and I'm thankful you did. Not great though. Lol

Maybe you're not a fan of Digital but in Marvel Unlimited they have the entire Spider-man run available for reading.

I really wanted to get a copy of Amazing Spider-Man Masterworks volume 8, which reprints issues 68-77. I was faced with buying the hardback for $75 or the paperback for $15. I just couldn't pull off getting the hardback for that price. Additionally, the next several Amazing Spider-Man hardbacks I need would have cost me as much or more. I had to face the reality I needed to switch to paperback format, at least at times. For $75 you could have pre-ordered The Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus Vol 3 - released later this month - and got ASM issues #68-77 in Hardback, if that was your preferred format... plus a lot more bang for your buck. Although I have never paid $75 for a MMW volume either, shop around, they can be got cheaper.

I'm a big fan of the omnibus format. In the couple months I've been collecting, I've bought: - The Brave & The Bold BA, vol. 1: A little disappointed by the lack of Batman's universe, but it's mostly fun and has Neal Adams.
- Daredevil by Miller & Janson: Still reading McKenzie's stories, but it's a very promising start.
- Doctor Strange, vol 1: Loving the unusual subject matter and the Ditko art.
- Fantastic Four, vol 2: It starts with solid stories, but I'm mostly looking forward to the second half of this one.
- The Amazing Spider-Man, vol 1: This is easily my favorite collection. Ditko was incredible.
- The Amazing Spider-Man, vol 3: Still waiting on this one in the mail.
- Uncanny X-Men 1: I'm not totally sold on this one yet, but I'll keep reading.
I'm thinking about picking up the S.H.I.E.L.D. omnibus with the Steranko cover next.

Thanks for the tip on ASM Omnibus 3! It solves a huge problem for me, as I was getting toward the issues where the only way to acquire them was to pay big money per Masterworks hardback. Woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only problem is, once you start buying Marvel Omnibus volumes you might decided to give up on MMW volumes and go BIG for your collected issues! So true! i avoided the MMW as i didn't want to pay those outrageous cover prices and waiting endlessly for/if the next book. Then along comes the Omnibus carrying more issues and in many instances for less cost. I have managed to only order those one and done Omnibus's for the most part covering a single series but as there are so many already out and more coming out at the moment that carry what i truly want from the silver and bronze ages find myself indulging. While a bit heavy and unwieldy the Omnibus has been so far great reproductions for cost and value to me at least.

Being behind the curve on following what was going on with Marvel's collected editions hasn't helped matters for me. I'll be happy just to read and have these stories on my bookshelf though.

No need to be behind any curve, there's enough folks here to guide you... Let us know what you make of the Spider-Man Omnibus Vol.3, if you decide to get it.

I've never really followed what was going on with the Marvel Masterworks books, but now that I'm really into reading a few of the titles I have a question. I've seen a bit of talk about some fans feeling all they wanted to see reprinted from Marvel has now been reprinted. Is there any talk about the Masterworks program being discontinued, or does it look like they'll keep going indefinitely? They seem to still be releasing a couple every month.. they do seem to be focusing on the main titles now, so they're collecting mostly Bronze Age stuff, but they're still being released for sure. Bah! I really miss the Golden and Bronze age masterworks - I love that they reprinted whole issues, instead of just selected stories like the DC archives - but they seem to be phased out completely for bronze age quarter bin stuff. There's an omnibus collection of all of Kirby's giant monster stories, which is better than nothing I GUESS but still only the Kirby stuff. (Although I'd actually really dig artist-centric collections focusing on Joe Maneely, Bill Everett's '50's horror, and Bill Benulis.)
