I just started looking through this thread, and as I'm scrolling along, I was wondering "when is somebody going to post JLA #200?" To be honest, it's the only thing that came to mind. While I can appreciate Perez' talent, he's never been a favorite of mine.

Love this cover and the others Perez did for the series but didn't like Mark Gruenwald's story, which to my mind helped to wreck what had been an excellent character in Moondragon. It gets a lot of laughs nowadays, but the green swimsuit + cape is one of my all-time favourite superhero costumes. Can't remember if I put it in my list of 12 when we did that theme for the 12 Days of Classic Christmas a few years ago but if I didn't, I should have.

I don't remember the art being good, but not bad either. Wasn't Bingham? Either way, different things for different people. And I'd never remembered this was a Perez cover otherwise I'd probably posted it.

I have that 3 parter and consider it very much part of the Starlin storyline. It actually fulfills the prophesy that the hermit in Warlock #15 predicted. I scanned the pages on a thread shaxper started about the Warlock series.

I pulled it out myself to read again since it's been awhile. But I'd forgotten about the connection to Warlock 15.

And I'd never remembered this was a Perez cover otherwise I'd probably posted it. I'm always disappointed when a favourite artist like Perez does the cover but the interior art is by someone else, no matter how good that someone else might be themselves. As it happens, I liked Jerry Bingham's style, especially when combined with Gene Day, but yes, I always feel a bit cheated when there's a cover by Perez or Steranko or whoever but another artist actually drew the book. The Thing and Moondragon having a personality clash makes perfect sense, and could have been handled by a better writer in a way that enhanced both characters. But Gruenwald seems to have been intent on knocking the latter down a peg or two and went about it in a very crude, almost childish manner. Not to speak ill of the dead, but because of stories like this I've never rated him as a writer. Thankfully, I wasn't reading Marvel during the years of his greatest prominence so I was spared most of his work.
