So, no love for William Hung around here? His Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer remains the definitive version.

I thought this guy was interesting. Calls himself Popa Chubby and can play guitar with the best of them. He does quite a few excellent covers and this Hendrix tune is probably my favorite.

Heh, 'Popa Chubby' - I get it. Seriously, though, the guy can play...

a few I like, ones that come to mind are Backyard Babies (well, just Nicke really) covering Social Distortions song 'Bad Luck' and Placebo cover of Kate Bush song.. had such a crush on Brian Molko in my early teens when first heard the band and Seigmen cover of a DeLillos song all put there own sound and emotion to the song so it not direct copy

I've been listening to Weep a lot lately (the band fronted by Doc Hammer, of "the Venture Brothers" fame).
and tho they do a couple of covers (including a decent cover of "Right Here, Right Now"), I think this is my favorite by them.
covering Rhianna:

Moby doing a decent cover of one of my favorite Joy Division songs.

The original versions aren't all favourites of mine — I strongly dislike one of them, in fact — so I'm probably doing this wrong. But anyway, some of my favourite covers:

Some good choices there. Morissette's version of "My Humps" is hilarious, and there's something weirdly compelling about those spoken-word covers that Shatner does.

Members of Devo were students at Kent State when the protesters were shot. This cover resonates with me.

Another set of good ones, Flesh & Fell's Emma
Lone Rangers- Degenerated
^the thing that irks me the most about this one is that the film Airheads had such a wide array of songs that they couldn't be asked to credit Reagan Youth at all
