Back on the Chain Gang by Morrissey. I love the original but Mozza's cover is terrific in its own right. For my money, a perfect fit. Really nice - somewhat to my surprise, as it never occurred to me that this was a song that would suit his style.
But Morrissey often exceeds my expectations, possibly because his image and his occasional unfortunate pronouncements on various subjects lead me to expect the worse.

It was a genuine pleasure to meet Stan Freberg a few years back (manning his table amidst the chaos of San Diego Comic Con) and tell him how much I enjoyed this cover.

A musical marriage that reads like a joke on paper and works like magic in reality.

In honor of the recently departed Daniel Johnston, his incredible reworking of the Beatles' "Got to Get You Into My Life".

The one and only Tiny Tim giving Rod Stewart's disco spoof a go. Major bonus points for that suit.

The one and only Tiny Tim giving Rod Stewart's disco spoof [Do Ya Tink I'm Sexy] a go. Major bonus points for that suit. Maybe this question should go in the general Music Thread, but what do you think of Stewart or the other composers stealing Bobby Womack's riff from his song, Put Something Down on It ? I mean, nothing else about the two songs is similar, but still, that riff is a pretty big part of Stewart's huge hit.

A clear case of plagiarism and especially outrageous given how central that riff is to Stewart's hit, as you say.

Placebo cover of Kate Bush song.. had such a crush on Brian Molko in my early teens when first heard the band Lately I've been hearing a new cover of "Running Up That Hill" by Meg Myers. Not as good as the original, but still fairly decent.

Back in the 80s, Japanese artist Tatsuro Yamashita released a song called "Merry-Go-Round," which was a pretty good pop song. Listen to it here. Some years later, Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind, & Fire covered it and, in my opinion, improved on it. A lot. And, oh yeah, this time you can understand the words.

I can hardly tell the difference between this and the original, if I hadn't seen that it wasn't actually by Bananarama I would have just thought it was some kind of new HD version of their original. The Weezer cover of Toto's Africa is like that as well, the arrangement is so precisely the same I've often wondered why they actually recorded new music at all for it instead of just singing to it like karaoke. I mean, I like a good cover but I usually like it to have its own sense of style. For instance, there's no way you could confuse Jimi Hendrix's version of All Along the Watchtower with Dylan's version and certainly not Bear McCreary's version from Battlestar Galatica.
