Batman the Movie - 1966Batman: The Movie (1966) - Theatrical Trailer This movie, I just watched the whole movie tonight and may have to watch the bits and pieces of this movie and considering this movie is the equivalent of watching four shows of Batman and because of the length of it and the complexity of this movie - I figure it will take me until July 23rd (plus or minus 2 days) to get it done just right. I seen this movie before and I saw some details that I did not noticed until now. It will take me 2-3 days to get it broken down into parts so that I can share the whole movie from start to finish. The Fearsome FoursomeLee Meriwether as the Catwoman Frank Gorshin as the Riddler Burgess Meredith as the Penguin Cesar Romero as the Joker Gotham City Crimebusters Burt Ward as Robin, the Boy Wonder Stafford Repp as Chief O'Hara Adam West as Batman, The Caped Crusader Neil Hamilton as Commissioner Gordon Batman and Robin in 1966 in the pages of Detective Comics This is why I say this Adam West - True Batman because of the Costume that he wore in the movie and the series and all others are fake to the core and that's why I believe that and I don't like the Dark Knight moniker at all. To me, he is the true Caped Crusader. I hold that dearly.

i love CC's reviews here; sublime! I'm also glad CC eschewed reviewing Nora Clavicle and the Ladies Crime Club, with Barbara Rush as Nora . gack. total waste of Barbara Rush. and i cannot even comment upon 'Shame'. I mean John Waters on bad street drugs could've done a better hammy deconstruction of Western motifs. this is a great thread CC, you are generous to spend your time and talent giving it to us, and i look foreward to your critique of the Bat Movie Thank you for your kind words here.

Batman the Movie The Introduction of the 1966 FilmI've watched this complete movie a day ago and I've to watch it again by pieces in order to make sure that I got everything in and my review is in order. I have watched this movie about a dozen of times in my life and it's pretty dated back in the 60's by the fashions that men and women wore those days. I was a fun movie to watch and I'm going to try my best to make it work for me and it will take me ten to fourteen days to get this all mapped in and complete. This is going to be challenge for me to write this up and all that. I will be using italic font in this review because the text is taken out of the Internet Movie Database so that I can copy the text to make things a bit easier for me to share what I have to say about the movie itself. Narrator: This yacht is bringing a revolutionary scientific invention to Gotham City. On a peaceful afternoon motor ride, millionaire Bruce Wayne and his youthful ward Dick Grayson have been summoned back to Wayne Manor by an urgent but anonymous call for help; the invention *and* its custodian are reported in grave danger aboard the yacht! Never ones to shirk responsibility, Bruce and Dick, with characteristic speed and resolve, descend promptly into The Batcave, and then, as they have done many times before, as *Batman and Robin*, courageous warriors against crime, they are off once again to the rescue!OpeningIn Bruce Wayne's Car they speeds to Wayne Manor to respond to a call for help so urgent and yet they raced home to descend the Batcave. Here's pictured Alfred, Batman's Butler and Aunt Harriet as they waved to Bruce and Dick upon arrival at home. Note: In this movie from Start to Finish ... Madge Blake that played Aunt Harriet did not say not one word! ... I was shocked to find out. They raced to the Batcave to answer the call for help and off they go as Batman and Robin! They raced to Gotham City Airport as Robin called for the Batcopter Red Alert so they can get the Batcopter for Immediate Takeoff to assist the Yacht owned by Commodore Schmidlapp. Commodore Schmidlapp is being played by Reginald Denny who played King Boris in the 2 part show entitled A Riddle a Day Keeps the Riddler Away & When the Rat's Away the Mice Will Play earlier in Season One of Batman Television Show. Reginald Denny as Commodore Schmidlapp who keeps ringing for his tea and the Joker played by Cesar Romero always take the duty to serve the Commodore who is bringing a fantastic invention to Gotham City. Back to the Movie ...While they on their way to the Yacht the Dynamic Duo was greeted by Jack LaLanne the Fitness Guru and his Bathing Beauties as they waved the Dynamic Duo in the Batcopter Jack had a cameo in this show and I always knew that ... Then, four members of Gotham City Police Force out on duty saw the Batcopter and they saluted to the Dynamic Duo and they were gratefully received by them and a nice couple in the park as well having a nice picnic together before heading to the Yacht ... The part of the Yacht will be later as Batman the Movie continues ...

Saw this when I was a young kid, on tv (would have been a couple or 3 years after it was released) and saw the bit when they go down the Batpoles and hit the costume change lever. I caught a glimpse of something like a ledge in the shaft and imagined that they somehow came to a stop at a changing room, got into costume, then jumped back on the poles. For a few years, I remembered it as happening that way, until I saw the movie again. Makes about a good explanation as any for the costume change.
In one of the 40s serials, their costumes are in a filing cabinet drawer, in the Batcave. That cave is rather sparsely furnished, compared to the tv show set.

I had the movie taped off of WGN sometime in the mid-80's. Watched it over and over, commercials and all. It was quite the revelation when I finally picked it up on DVD later, as it felt like a director's cut as surely they'd cut some scenes out to edit it for time.

The Movie ContinuesBy time they got to the Yacht owned by Commodore Schmidlapp of Big Ben Distilleries as the Batcopter approaches ... Ignore that Picture of Batman (Adam West) in it because this is only decent picture of the Yacht that I can find in the Internet ... As the Batcopter approaches the Yacht - with Batman on the Bat Ladder trying to investigate the whereabouts of Commodore Schmidlapp ... The Bat Ladder was the first equipment used in this movie so that Batman can descent with the Aid of Robin manning the controls of the Batcopter to figure out the mystery of the Commodore Schmidlapp and his invention that he bringing to Gotham City. Batman the Movie had a larger budget and that when the Batcopter and later the Batboat to be used and they used the footage of this movie to be spliced into the 2nd Season to save monies and I really dig these fantastic transportation that they used in this movie. Batmobile, Batcycle, Batcopter (shown above), and the Batboat as well. It was fun seeing all four of these transportation devices in this movie. Then, back to the Movie ... while the Dynamic Duo approaches the Yacht ... a sinister development showing Batman being dragged down by a Man-Eating Shark being employed by the Penguin and later exploded by the dastardly deeds by the Clown Prince of Crime - The Joker! Robin: [sees a shark attached to Batman's leg] Holy sardine!Batman: Hand down the shark-repellent Bat Spray! Here's the Caped Crusader himself fending off the big ole SHARK! While he battling the big ole SHARK ... he uses his Bat Communicator to have Robin to hurry up and use the Bat Shark Repellant so he can free himself from that big ole SHARK! Batman has four repellants available and they are .... Barracuda Bat Spray Repellant Whale Bat Spray Repellant Manta Ray Bat Spray Repellant Shark Bat Spray Repellant For your own information ... I laughed during the movie seeing the Manta Ray Repellant and the word Oceanic is being used here.

Movie Continues ...
After investigating the scene of the crime of where Batman met an exploding shark and using a camera using high-tech photographic filters - they managed to grab a picture of the illegal projection buoy. The Dynamic Duo were discussing it in the Batcave and Robin got excited to show Batman a picture of a buoy and using the magnifying thingy in their Batcave.
Picture of a very Cool Batcave
So, after discussing with Robin and both of them agree that this buoy is a projection type and making the yacht totally disappeared and through carefully analysis of that buoy it is located at a position of
10.3 x 69-BThen, Robin said to Batman, crooks may leave their fingerprints on it and the Caped Crusader ... let's race to the Batboat to see that buoy as quickly as possible. When they arrive ... they started to investigate and whamo they got magnetized unable to reach an item in their utility belt. They were spotted by the Penguin Sub ... and the Penguin ordered the Joker to fire three torpedoes and the first two were destroyed by Batman's SuperCharge Polarizing Transmitter of some kind and the third and final attempt by the Joker under the command of that waddling bird of prey - The Penguin managed to come through and somehow the Caped Crusaders were save by that nobility of that almost human porpoise.
Penguin Sub and that Pirate Periscope too
I'm about 1/3 of the movie completed ...

@mechagodzilla Excellent reviews of the movie. Thank you for taking the time to do these detailed reports. BTW I had these toys as a kid from the movie: My brother and I had those: I had the Batmobile and he had the Batboat and trailer. A number of my friends also had this toy and this would've been in the late 70s or even very early '80s. It's amazing that the same Bat-merchandise that was a hit with kids in the mid-60s was still a big seller some 10-15 years later, due to the continuing popularity of TV reruns of the Adam West Batman show. Those die-cast Batmobiles go for a fortune these days, if they've in really good condition.

Movie Critical Moment The Penguin's Submarine This is the critical moment in this movie after seeing Riddler's riddles (more on that tomorrow, I need time to think about it) ... Batman, called the Pentagon to inquire if anyone purchase a pre-atomic submarine of recently and Batman on the phone ... Vice Admiral Fangschliester: ...to some chap named P.N. Guin.
Batman: P.N. Guin...
Robin: Penguin! After a brief moment ... Batman pauses for a second or two ... Vice Admiral Fangschliester: [on the phone] Your tone sounds rather grim. We haven't done anything foolish, have we?
Batman: [reproachfully] Disposing a pre-atomic submarines to persons who don't even leave their full addresses... Good day, Admiral!
Vice Admiral Fangschliester: [they hang up] Gosh!Milton Frome as Vice Admiral Fangschliester ... what a kooky name for an Admiral in the US Navy - Fictional or Non Fictional ... She said only two words .. "It's Batman!" ... and her role in this movie was uncredited and her name is Linda Carpenter that played a WAVE in this movie. Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service and according to my World War Two knowledge this is a minor goof being made by Batman's Producers giving her an uncredited role as a WAVE. WAVE is a WW2 terminology. She had a small role in Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman playing a beauty contestant (uncredited too) and had very little acting credentials.
