Howdy Bat-FansDear Everyone,This project of which I'm taking will start this Wednesday with the 1st Episode of Adam West's Batman entitled - "Hi Diddle Riddle" and ending with - "Minerva, Mayhem and Millionaires" and I'm going to use REVIEW TEMPLATE BELOW to handle it. My goal is to try to do one review a week when I have to run two clubs at the same time. My two clubs are taking June and July off so I'm going to try my hardest to do two a week if I can and might have to use the entire year to go through all 120 Shows that Adam West and Burt Ward did for three years as Dynamic Duo. REVIEW TEMPLATEBatman Episode (1) … First Season – Show Title Original Air Date Major Villain Important Guest Stars Window Cameos Favorite Holy Word Spoken by Robin Critique of the Show (My Thoughts) Bats Regarding the last item - Bats ... those will be my review ratings and I found in the internet this cute little 100x100 pixels and I'll be using that to grade each show as I see it. 1 Bat - This show is poor. 2 Bats - This show is fair. 3 Bats - This show is good. 4 Bats - This show is very good. 5 Bats - This show is excellent It will start this Wednesday and I've need time to prepare it and I'll start on that tomorrow evening to have the show fresh in my mind and proceed writing it up on Tuesday to get it here on Wednesday. My plan is to do this ... Watch the show on Monday, use Tuesday to write it up and think about what I've written in the Review Template, and then when ... I'm satisfied with it and then post it on Wednesday for all you to enjoy. I'm going to be busy on Thursday to Sunday helping my brother with family affair and help him to move to a larger home in the month of June and hope to have everything done by the 4th of July. There are days on Monday, that I could do two shows and get it ready by Wednesday to speed things up. I have met Adam West four times from 1979 to 1999 and Burt Ward from 1987 to 1999 and haven't seen them since then. I have met Julie (Catwoman) Newmar, Cesar (Joker), Frank (Riddler), and Burgess (Penguin) Meredith along with Yvonne (Batgirl) Craig once in my life to round off the main villains that I've met. Anyway, It will start this Wednesday for all your Bat Enjoyment! Atomic Batteries to Power! Turbines to Speed!

Batman Episode (1) … First Season – Hi Diddle Riddle Original Air Date – January 12th, 1966 Major Villain – The Riddler played by Frank Gorshin Important Guest Stars – Jill St. John as Molly Pictured here with Adam West as Batman. Window Cameos: None Favorite Holy Word Spoken by Robin ... There isn't one that I find to be very noteworthy to share here and if he had spoken any Holy ******** ... I've find it not that important in this show. If there is one I would dismiss it altogether. Critique of the Show (My Thoughts)This show was the talk of the town everywhere when Adam West and Burt Ward appeared on National Television as Batman and Robin Ace Crime Fighters and it was the single most important beginning of a three years of Bat-Mania that swept the Country by storm and it was made to be very colorful, bold, dramatic, and true to the Comic Books that Batman was an iconic commodity of DC Comics. For what I heard from friends it was this show that added fuel to the fire and literally saved the Caped Crusader and added life to this beloved character from DC Comics. I consider this show was sensational because it was unreal for me a child at the age of six going to be 7 years old back in 1966 of which my Parents gave me permission to watch this show on Wednesdays and Thursdays Nights on ABC at 7:30 PM. Matter of fact, our whole family watch it with curiosity and had a ball doing so. This show opened up with attack on Molvanian Embassy display at Gotham City World's Fair and clues all pointing to Riddler while Commissioner Gordon ask members of the Gotham City Police Department - you think you handle the Riddler and kindly asked Inspector Basch and he said kindly no. So, they called on the Services of the Caped Crusader and like many times after that; Commissioner Gordon had failed to disclose the identity of Batman and he said to himself a thousand times on that show that he owe him a great deal of gratitude for protecting the vital interests of Gotham City. In the show, the dramatic clue was the riddle and going by memory - how an orange and a bell - something along that line and while they were all been thinking about it - they both needed to be peal. Therefore, clue is pointing to the Peale Art Gallery of which the Riddler was conducting business with Mr. Peale legally - and Batman knows that the gun was not real and played along with it and the Riddler hit Batman with a lawsuit that forces him to reveal his true identity in court. Great Moment in this Exciting Show in Batman's Opening Success of where the Riddler contacted Batman via Batphone via Batmobile that led to the gun as a lighter and then Batman got sued in court by the Riddler. Things aren't looking good for Batman. Even his father's law books couldn't help him and Alfred reminded both Batman and Robin about their fishing trips in the past. So, after all this ... of which lead to clues to a disco place and this was a plot by the Riddler to separate the Dynamic Duo because Robin is underage and not allowed to enter it. This was first time the Batusi was shown. As a kid, I didn't know better ... but as a Adult and watching it last night - I was laughing of the silliness and camped appeal that made this show as success back then. Eventually, the Duo separated and the Riddler managed to capture Robin, the Boy Wonder and Batman has to find him eventually and that's will take place in our next show entitled "Smack in the Middle". There are some cool moments in that show of which Batman ordered Robin to watch for him in the Mini TV that built in the Batmobile in case he needed help and while that going on Batman was groggy coming out the disco place having that Orange Juice being spiked with a sleeping pill and the officer stopped him and while he is no condition to drive the Batmobile and at the worst possible moment - the Bat Signal was flashing in the sky indicating that Commissioner Gordon calling for Batman's help in this case. I consider this was the key scene in that show. It started out with a Bang with actress Jill St.John as Molly along with the Riddler played by Frank Gorshin himself. This show was unreal back then and with plots and counterplots were placed at the right moment making Batman to really think of what to do next. So, as the show ends ... with Robin captured and Batman being groggy and most importantly Riddler at the Mercy of Riddler - things are looking dicey for the Caped Crusader. BatsOther Guest Stars – Michael Fox as Inspector Basch and Ben Aster as Moldavian Prime Minister I really liked Ben Aster as the Prime Minister here and his expressions on that show was priceless. For the RecordI hope to have the 2nd Show done by Wednesday at latest so that I have two shows done this week and I'm going to try my best to do two shows a week by the end of July. It will be difficult for me at times when you have two clubs to run. I hope that I'm off to a flying start and I have 119 shows to do and this will be one of the biggest reviews that I ever done and I hope to have it done by a year from now.

Excellent job! I think I may try & watch the episodes as you review them. As I said in another thread Batman, Star Trek & Tarzan were my trinity of TV shows in 1966.
Gorshin was excellent as the Riddler.

Excellent job! I think I may try & watch the episodes as you review them. As I said in another thread Batman, Star Trek & Tarzan were the my trinity of TV shows in 1966. Gorshin was excellent as the Riddler. As i was a wee lad of 4 years in 1966, these were my faves in rerun's when i was old enough. I may have seen them and subconsciously remember a "feeling" of them (my mother told me she would set up on Friday nights watching Star Trek and i would sit on the couch rocking away watching mesmerized) but there was something wonderful about Batman in and of itself. The color, the fun, the silliness, the villains, the accessories and so much more. I am so glad to have this on DVD finally. Have watched from VHS copies i made myself and now to have it bright and beautiful in all of its glory is insane! Looking forward to all you have to share here Juggy!

Batman Episode (2) … First Season – Smack in the MiddleOriginal Air Date - January 13, 1966 Major Villain - The Riddler, played by Frank Gorshin Important Guest Stars - Jill St.John as Molly She is wearing the costume and the mask that was made by the Riddler in this show with one glaring mistake a hole in the mask that was detected in the Batcave by Batman. Window Cameos None Favorite Holy Word Spoken by Robin - Holy Showcase It's has no significant meaning to the show. I felt that this should had never been spoken on the show. Pretty Useless Indeed. Critique of the Show (My Thoughts)I just watched this show and I have thought it was letdown of letdowns because the first 10-15 minutes of the show was pretty much dominated by Molly, Riddler, and Batman. Riddler was basically threw in for good measure because he wanted to use his henchwoman Molly to do the dirty work by killing Batman in the Batcave. I felt that this is poor decision on the part of ABC and the Producers of Batman that when this show was made it was heavily criticized by DC Comics that they made Molly die in the Batcave and at the beginning of this show she became the 1st person who entered the Batcave and die at the same time. I felt that was very poor choice and I felt that very true in this show itself. In reality - I would give this show 1.5 Bats - Holding firm on the notion of Molly's death.
What's puzzled me right after the Riddler ordered Robin to get hold of the Hotline and Commissioner Gordon took the responsibility of recording it and try to trace the call. Right after that was done. Riddler puts Robin to sleep and that's what I just saw a mere 30 minutes ago. Then, he was laying there playing Possum and how in the world that he managed that? ... Baffling Indeed and that was the glaring error on the part of the Producers of Batman and I thought it was the biggest joke on them and the biggest goof of them all. Then, later on a Bat Fight at the Molvanian Embassy display at Gotham City World's Fair and Batman and Robin captured the Mole Hill Gang and not the Riddler and somehow he escaped and the Dynamic Duo thought the Blast from the Laughing Gas Cannister got him or not? It was the only Bat Fight and it wasn't all that good. Anyway, back to Wayne Manor and later I learned that Riddler failed to appear to file a lawsuit against Batman knowing that he already committed crimes at the Gotham City's World Fair and among other things ordering Molly to kill Batman in the Batcave and by knowing this - the Lawsuit of a Million Dollar against Batman was immediately dropped and that alone saved him from revealing his true identity in court and preserving his career as a Crimefighter. Bruce (Batman) Wayne was thinking about Molly and I like the for a few seconds having her face appear on screen and he was reflecting to Dick (Robin) Grayson about her and Aunt Harriet came in with a tray of goodies for them and as the show ended with Bruce kindly asked Dick - do you need help with your Algebra? Dick said in a happy tone ... I sure would! ... Show ended with a positive note. Not much to write about and that's why this show was a low note in the beginning of Batman's Television Season at this point of time. BatsIt's really more like 1.5 Bats Other Guest Stars – See previous post, Ben Aster was silly and basically there for comedic approach and all that.

Did anybody really mistake Jill St. John as Robin the boy wonder? Holy shades of cross dressing and blindness and indifference old chum!
Gorshin really steals the show in this premiere Riddler appearance setting a standard the rest of the actors would likely have found difficult to follow if they weren't such accomplished legendary entertainers. His physical and emotive energy and acting virtually has him jumping out of the television screen.

Enjoying these reviews, Juggy, but what are Window Cameos? Oh, OK...I had no idea these were "a thing". Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention as a kid, but I don't recall seeing these at all. Hmmm...I wonder if they were cut from British re-runs because some or all of the celebs featured wouldn't be known to children in the UK?
