Movie Critical Moment The Penguin's Submarine This is the critical moment in this movie after seeing Riddler's riddles (more on that tomorrow, I need time to think about it) ... Batman, called the Pentagon to inquire if anyone purchase a pre-atomic submarine of recently and Batman on the phone ... Vice Admiral Fangschliester: ...to some chap named P.N. Guin.
Batman: P.N. Guin...
Robin: Penguin! After a brief moment ... Batman pauses for a second or two ... Vice Admiral Fangschliester: [on the phone] Your tone sounds rather grim. We haven't done anything foolish, have we?
Batman: [reproachfully] Disposing a pre-atomic submarines to persons who don't even leave their full addresses... Good day, Admiral!
Vice Admiral Fangschliester: [they hang up] Gosh!Milton Frome as Vice Admiral Fangschliester ... what a kooky name for an Admiral in the US Navy - Fictional or Non Fictional ... She said only two words .. "It's Batman!" ... and her role in this movie was uncredited and her name is Linda Carpenter that played a WAVE in this movie. Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service and according to my World War Two knowledge this is a minor goof being made by Batman's Producers giving her an uncredited role as a WAVE. WAVE is a WW2 terminology. She had a small role in Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman playing a beauty contestant (uncredited too) and had very little acting credentials. Love that scene, on many levels. In reality, naval vessels are, generally, only sold to foreign governments, mothballed, used for target practice, or destroyed and sold for scrap. Still, love the idea of the Navy selling a surplus submarine to someone at a PO Box. Probably advertised in Mechanix Illustrated or a similar publication. Although women were integrated into the regular military in 1948, the use of the term WAVE (and WAC and WAF) continued until the early 70s. My family's early 1970s World Book Encyclopedia set still used the term in the article about women in the Navy and the Navy itself still used the term, though unofficially, much like "snipe" for engineering ratings and "doc" for corpsmen. If you want odd names for admirals, the Chief of Naval Operations in the 1970s was Adm. Elmo Zumwalt. The Navy Inspector General, in the late 80s and early 90s was Rear Adm. Ming Chang, the first Asian-American to reach flag rank. The granddaddy of Navy Nuclear power, and a total nutjob, who rode roughshod over the program until the late 80s was Adm. Hyman Rickover. Every officer candidate who wanted to go into the nuclear program had to go through an interview with him. He was known to lock people in a closet, for s#$%@ and giggles. Man was certifiable, but extremely powerful.

Movie Continues ...
After investigating the scene of the crime of where Batman met an exploding shark and using a camera using high-tech photographic filters - they managed to grab a picture of the illegal projection buoy. The Dynamic Duo were discussing it in the Batcave and Robin got excited to show Batman a picture of a buoy and using the magnifying thingy in their Batcave.
Picture of a very Cool Batcave
So, after discussing with Robin and both of them agree that this buoy is a projection type and making the yacht totally disappeared and through carefully analysis of that buoy it is located at a position of
10.3 x 69-BThen, Robin said to Batman, crooks may leave their fingerprints on it and the Caped Crusader ... let's race to the Batboat to see that buoy as quickly as possible. When they arrive ... they started to investigate and whamo they got magnetized unable to reach an item in their utility belt. They were spotted by the Penguin Sub ... and the Penguin ordered the Joker to fire three torpedoes and the first two were destroyed by Batman's SuperCharge Polarizing Transmitter of some kind and the third and final attempt by the Joker under the command of that waddling bird of prey - The Penguin managed to come through and somehow the Caped Crusaders were save by that nobility of that almost human porpoise.
Penguin Sub and that Pirate Periscope too
I'm about 1/3 of the movie completed ... I have no idea what kind of coordinates 10.3 x 69-B are; they sure aren't latitude and longitude! The somber tones when they discuss the porpoise saving them always cracks me up.

Back to the Movie ...After talking to the Vice Admiral ... A Polaris Missile out of nowhere being fired by the Riddler and he is giving more clues to the Dynamic Duo. The missile is a sky writing missile that being employed by the Riddler and sent these two riddles for Batman and Robin to solve. Here's the Riddles ... So, Batman and Robin raced to Police Headquarters and work the problems with Commissioner Gordon and Chief O'Hara ... Batman: Look at this pair of joking riddles.
Chief O'Hara: [reads] What does a turkey do when he flies upside down?
Robin: He gobbles up!
Chief O'Hara: Of course.
Batman: And, number two...
Commissioner Gordon: [reads] What weighs six ounces, sits in a tree and is very dangerous?
Robin: A sparrow with a machine gun!
Commissioner Gordon: Yes, of course. When, they got their heads together and these clues all points to one person who is the catalyst of the whole affair is their arch-enemy the Catwoman! Lee Meriwether as the Catwoman After a short pause, and they were pondering about this whole time and then Commissioner ... Commissioner Gordon: Penguin, Joker, Riddler... and Catwoman, too! The sum of the angles of that rectangle is too monstrous to contemplate!
Batman: We've been given the plainest warning. They're working together to take over...
Chief O'Hara: Take over *what*, Batman? Gotham City?
Batman: Any *two* of them would try that!
Commissioner Gordon: The whole country?
Batman: If it were three of them, I would say yes, but *four*? Their minimum objective must be... the *entire* world. At this point the Movie starts it's 2nd part of where it's gets hairy and things started to get interesting and armed with knowledge that Penguin, Joker, Riddler, and Catwoman who planned the whole thing making it very difficult for our Dynamic Duo. I called these villains ... The Fearsome Foursome!

Lee MeriwetherShe has the distinction of having two roles outside of Adam West and Burt Ward playing two parts Miss Kitka a charming acronym for Kitayna Ireyna Tatanya Kerenska Alisoff and Batman's nemesis ... The Catwoman! With her cat Hecate here. Sorry Julie Newmar fans ... I felt that Julie was too much as Catwoman and her hair in the 1st Season and 2nd Season was too long and I felt the color of her hair wasn't right to me and I felt that Catwoman should more like the Golden Age of Comics and I also felt that Eartha Kitt was too short. To be honest here ... Julie had 1 hour under her belt in the first season of Batman and another 5 hours in the 2nd Season as Catwoman. Lee gets credited nearly 2 hours for the Movie and 1 hour as Lee Carson in the 2nd Season of Batman. More that I see it, I felt the role of Catwoman should had given to Lee instead of Julie. Because she looks more dark haired and looks more like the Comic Book Version below. I felt that Julie was too tall for the role. I love Julie and I love Lee and for Eartha she was dynamite but too short as Catwoman. Height of Catwoman in the Movie and TV Series. Julie was 5'11" Lee was 5'9" Eartha was 5'4" Note: Lee Meriwether was the same height as TV's Wonder (Lynda Carter) Woman. More on the movie ... in two days from now as Batman the Movie continues ...

Lee was Great as Catwoman and had an awesome "Mrowr" (love when she is looking through the periscope making the sound and one of Penguin's pirates leans back and looks incredulously at her). However, Julie was so awesom as the Catwoman, mixing the right blend of sexy, funny and deadly. She got the tone and could play it well. She also had legs up to her chin, which gives her bonus points, in my book.

Budding Romance in TowAfter the Press Conference, Miss (Catwoman) Kitka brought two riddles to Bruce Wayne and she wanted his opinion because it was written in his stationery and in an quandary to report this to the police or that masked cossack Batman. I just dig that Orange Dress that she wore in that scene. After a brief flirting moment and Bruce wants to get know her better and take her out for the town over dinner, dancing, and romance. Then, Bruce went to the Batcave to share these riddles with Robin who is doing homework in the Batcave because he wanted to give Bruce privacy with Miss Kitka ... I guess? Batman: [reads the first riddle] What has yellow skin and writes? Robin: A ball-point banana! Batman: [reads the second riddle] What people are always in a hurry? Robin: Rushing people... Russians! Batman: So this means... Robin: Someone Russian is going to slip on a banana and break their neck! Batman: Precisely, Robin! Then, Alfred took care of Miss Kitka and rejoins the team via emergency elevator to map out a plan to engage with Miss Kitka and all that. So, having worked that out in great details and all that ... Bruce and Miss Kitka went out for the night for dinner and romance and having a good time together having secretly one being good and other bent for evil. What a cool gif ... found it unexpectedly! ... Used it in my avatar it will be up for another day or two. After a great night of dinner, dancing, and romance ... the newspapers calls this a budding romance of journalist from the Moscow Bugle and that dashing millionaire Bruce Wayne as the talk of the town and they took a horse carriage ride to her borrowed Penthouse Apartment of where she is staying at. Having no signs of Criminal Activity and all that ... Robin via Batmobile called to Commissioner Gordon's office and have Chief O'Hara flash the Bat Signal so that Catwoman can strike ... hard and immediately! At this point, Miss (Catwoman) Kitka decided this is the time to strike so she reaches in her purse and pulled out small Catwoman Communication Device and to call out her fiends via morse code so that they can kidnap Bruce Wayne. In the first video ... her signal was sent and they speeds on her command and the rest of the trap is now set! In the 2nd Video, Robin did not feel very comfortable watching this scene of where Miss Kitka and Bruce Wayne are in the middle of a romance of her wearing something very seductive and she told Bruce we can talk while your cocoa is warming. Bruce said something very silly to her "all my nights, and earthly glances" something like that of which it was so corny that I was laughing and could keep a straight face watching it. Then a few moments later ... Sorry no pictures - a fight between Bruce and the rotten gang 3/4 of the Fearsome Foursome pouncing on Bruce at this particular moment without Robin viewing it. At this point, the Producers wanted to put some steel into Bruce's character and all that ... and Adam West in one of my four visits that I met him wanted to do this too; to get Bruce more dynamic in this movie and that's why it's builds Bruce's Character

The romantic evening really works and they play it so well. You really see Bruce falling in love with Miss Kitka. Really sells how good an actor Adam West could be when he wanted.
When I was a small child, watching this for the first time, I only got to see the film right up to the point where the Penguin's pirates have nabbed Bruce and Kitka dn are flying them away on the giant umbrellas. Then, I had to go to bed! Man, just when it was getting really good! It was close to 10 years before I caught it on tv again and got to see the whole thing.

I thought so too ... it's really sad that he can do romance scenes very well and that's one of the pluses that James Bond Producers thought that he could be the next James Bond after Sean Connery and he was one of the runner up in the On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I've wanted to share that to all of you here. It's pretty darn good scene and I was stunned how well these two worked so well and the chemistry that these two did so well. For the Record ... I watch this movie every 3-4 years for kicks and I always felt this is a true Silver Age Movie that did so well. That's why I felt it was done just right for the period of the 60's. I should be done by end of next week.

Building up to the BOMB!After he was dragged away by the nasty criminals called themselves the United Underworld they took them to their main hideout to initiate a plan to get Batman out here so that they can get rid of their arch-enemy once for all. When, Bruce finally wakes up and discovered that he being forced in his will in the hands of evildoers and demanded to see Miss Kitka and made good that he's going to render this place limb by limb and kill you all and his dying breath too. He meant well; and Catwoman told him we need to Blindfold you first and take you to Chamber 17. Inside of where the Super Criminals they saw heard that through listening in that he (Bruce) had something in his left elbow that he wants Miss Kitka to activate it. They did not want Miss Kitka to that and instead wanting to find out for themselves so they dragged Bruce out of there and to find out what it is. Notes: Lee Meriwether had to go through many costume changes ... Beautiful White Evening Gown, Sexy Pink Nightgown, her Catwoman Costume, and back to that Nightie and eventually at the end her Catwoman costume too. That's alone and much more would drive actors/actresses crazy! So, as they proceed with care ... as soon Bruce got loose ... more steel was given to Bruce and he successfully managed to outfought the criminals all by himself. A crazy melee and one of their henchman got tangled with the Joker's Jack in the Box and that's lead to his doom to the hands of the Penguin's Exploding Octopus and Bruce tried his best to locate Miss Kitka and that's was unsuccessful and fight through again with this rotten gang and managed to escape by jumping off one of the sweetest swan dive in his tuxedo. That's was just a great sight to see. He raced home ... with Dick Grayson and Commissioner Gordon awaiting ... Commissioner Gordon: Great day in the morning! And, later on, Commissioner Gordon asked how you managed to get away - with the aid of Batman and he told Gordon that he wants to call you at Police Headquarters. Bruce and Dick went to the Batcave and to race to the place of where Bruce held captive. 2nd time that I used this gif! As soon that they got there ... A Bat Climb was in order and some patron at the tavern had a window cameo appearance ... I don't know who it was! Bat Climb to the place of where Bruce was held captive. As soon that they got to the top ... A BOMB WAS SEEN!Batman had to do something, first he grabbed the bomb told the people/patrons of the tavern to run and get out there except two fat ladies enjoying a meal and and one of the craziest, nuttiest, and most difficult thing for a crimefighter had to to get rid of the Bomb! ... While this is going on he mentioned to Robin at some point of this incredible scene ... Batman: They may be drinkers, Robin, but they're still human beings.
I wanted to share that here and I had my reasons. It was frantic moment in the life of any crimefighter to endure ... he ran into 5 little ducks, marching bands, nuns, lovers in a rowboat, and whatever he has to do to get rid it ... Man it was unbelievably funny to watch him to do this ... Batman: Some days, you just can't get rid of a bomb.
That's line is probably the most iconic statement that Adam West said in that Movie! ... He managed to get rid it in the nick of time and that's was Robin's greatest fear that turn to relief seeing Batman shield himself from those steel pipes that was a perfect for him to save himself ... All this was exciting, full of action, and most of all it was intense and probably one of the best moments in that movie.
