I also liked how they took advantage of the audience switching from B&W TV's to color TV's. Many shows at that time had bright colors but Batman really popped with the colors. As I said in another post it was the first TV show I watched in color. For a child it really was a comic book brought to life on TV.
Funny story: my cousin & I were acting out a Batman fight scene & he jumped off the back of his sofa onto the coffee table & he broke the coffee table. He wasn't allowed to watch the show for two weeks. I had to describe the shows he missed to him. No one was hurt. From that point on we only "played" Batman outside or in his basement. Until the Batgirl episodes his sister was mad that she always had to be the villain. We all still laugh about this 50 years later.

Batman Episode (1) … First Season – Batman Is Riled Original Air Date - January 27, 1966 Major Villain - Cesar Romero as the Joker Important Guest Stars - Nancy Kovack as Queenie Window Cameos - None Critique of the Show (My Thoughts)I had time to do today, because my brother doesn't need me today and I wanted to get this show on the road. Before I begin, there were lots of confetti and streamers being used in this show on three separate spots ... at the beginning when the Joker is about to unmask Batman and Robin, and the great scene at Last Longer Warehouse, and that the end of the program of where Batman is about to be launched for all Eternity! Batman is about to be unmasked ... or not!!! This is gotta be one of the fastest paced show that I watched and it's continually being upstaged by the Joker by his Utility Belt that constantly giving the Dynamic Duo headaches and the baffling ways that the Joker seems to be invincible in this show of where the curtains being fallen on the Caped Crusaders. The Scene of which Confetti showing brightly silk fabrics showing Poor Boy Wonder, Phooey on Batman, and Hooray for the Joker was giving our Heroes fits! The scene of the 2nd Confetti Attack and the joy buzzer on the poor helpless News Reporter was pure Joker and that's made him worthy as being the Clown Prince of Crime and the way Alfred assisted the Dynamic Duo in figuring out the next move by the Joker was pure gem. It was a classic Batman that I really enjoyed the exchange of words by Alfred, Robin, and Batman all working together to solve this caper by the Joker. I just loved this show and as an adult watching again was taking Comic Book and making it real on Television. Anyway, the end of this show was pure genius on the writers that made the Joker as the goat of this brilliant crafted show of the ultimate undoing by the careless Joker replacing the vintage cork with the Showstopper so that the Director of the Steamship ... SS Gotham can surrender the title to the Joker that provided the Dynamic Duo their best chance to defeat the Clown Prince of Crime. The downfall of the Joker is when Batman inspected the cork of the Bottle that was given to him by Queenie so that they can christened the SS Gotham and Batman told Commissioner Gordon that he has a Headache coming on and gave Robin a pill also. Batman said "Doctor Orders" was sensational. The cork was very recent ... odd for a bottle of Champagne for being a vintage in the year of 1949. This was the ultimate undoing by the Joker of which he failed to correct this important oversight in this great show it was. Great Bat Fight and more confetti ... man, I hope the Producers of Batman had stocks on Confetti that year ... they could get rich on it. Ha Ha Ha!The Downfall of the Joker was when he stepped on a duplicate version of his Utility Belt and the Heroes prevailed and the one of the Greatest Crime Wave in Gotham City come to a dramatic fashion and the son of the Newscaster made one of the greatest moments in that show of where he had faith in the Dynamic Duo. His son Harold was happy! BatsGreat Outing by Cesar Romero as the Joker! ... Very Dramatic and one of the Best Shows in the first Season of Batman.

Excellent review! I am amazed at how quickly the show "settled in". Most first seasons "stumble" a bit as they find what works & what doesn't. Batman seemed to "get it" right away. Their formula was magic. Aired 2 nights/week with a cliffhanger, guest villains, excellent main cast. Embracing some of the silliness of comic books & enjoying it!
Does anyone know if any other prime time shows aired like Batman - 2 nights a week?

Batman Episode (1) … First Season – Instant FreezeOriginal Air Date - February 2, 1966 Major Villain - George Sanders as Mr. Freeze Important Guest StarsRobert Hogan as Paul Diamante He had a small role in this Episode enjoying his dinner at Wayne Manor with three members of Gotham City Eagles a Baseball Team. Shelby Grant as Princess Sandra Owner of Ghiaccio Circolo (Circle of Ice), Diamond owned by Princess Sandra (Molino) Window Cameos None Critique of the Show (My Thoughts)At first, a Gotham City Patrolman on a Motorcycle was chasing a Truck that's owned by Mr. Freeze and his henchmen and he was stunned by the instant ice being paved on the streets of Gotham City in July. And, after a brief meeting at Commissioner Gordon's office they all agree that Mr. Freeze is planning a cold wave of terror in Gotham City first by confusing the Gotham City Residents of Five Batman's running wild in all over Gotham City and with careful deduction of the Dynamic Duo ... they are centering on the Diamond Exchange of which one of weirdest and strangest Bat Fights involving 5 Batman and 5 Mr. Freeze to give Batman great difficulty of capturing Mr. Freeze. Strike One on Batman. They were hired by Nippy, Mr. Freeze Chief Henchmen First Mr. Freeze stole from a bank that contains the 2nd Largest Diamond in the World the Famous The "Star of Kashmir" and later on steals the Ghiaccio Circolo (Circle of Ice) from Princess Sandra. Mr. Freeze successfully stole both diamonds and escaped from Batman and Robin by creating a fire on one of the curtains and Batman put it out immediately while Robin tends Princess Sandra and her assistant. Batman and Robin went outside of the Hotel and hoping to capture Mr. Freeze and he was forced to use his Freeze Gun on them and making them a pair of Human Popsicles as the Show ends with hopelessness for our noble heroes. Strike Two on Batman. BatsSorry Everyone, this show did not had a Bat Fight with the Real Mr. Freeze and it's Henchmen and it was too much drama in this show and all that Mr. Freeze wanted Revenge on Batman and all that. It was a solid 4 Bats!

Mr Freeze was a villain that the TV show & cartoons made so much cooler (pun intended) than in the comics. I'm curious which version of the 3 actors that played Freeze posters liked the most?

Otto Preminger, he's looks for the part and his trademark "Wild" sayings and the way he curls up his eyebrows and all makes him Number 1. Sanders and Wallach are good for their own good but Otto was the best.

Batman Episode (1) … First Season – Rats Like CheeseOriginal Air Date - February 3, 1966 Major Villain - George Sanders as Mr. Freeze Important Guest StarsRobert Hogan as Paul Diamante Shelby Grant as Princess Sandra With Commissioner Gordon Here Window Cameos - None Critique of the Show (My Thoughts) Of all the Minor Characters in this show - I really liked Dan Terranova as Doctor Vince who miraculously saved the Dynamic Duo from death. He was excellent, honest, trying to do his best, and having more pressure on him of reviving the Dynamic Duo with Commissioner Gordon and Chief O'Hara standing by. I find him genuine and acted like a true medical man. Anyway, after the news bulletin interrupted a baseball game that Mr. Freeze was watching he learned that the Dynamic Duo lived again and that made Mr. Freeze mad and wanted Revenge again on the part of Batman who accidentally spilled chemicals in his labs and freezing compounds as well in the fight that he wanted Batman to pay for. This made him changed his tune and thinking another way to destroy Batman. Alfred, Aunt Harriet, Dick Grayson, Bruce Wayne, and Princess Sandra attended an afternoon baseball Game and all the sudden Strike Three on Batman appears in the Sky and all the sudden Bruce and Dick leave and his excuse that he had a Board Meeting to attend and they raced back home to change and go directly to Gotham City Police Headquarters to talk to Gordon and O'Hara what next on Mr. Freeze Agenda. I loved that Retro Look on the Outfit of Princess Sandra here ... Then, later on Batman agreed to trade himself for one Paul Diamante and went to a Park; I'm assumed if I'm right and Mr. Freeze made true to his word. Prior to that in the Batcave; Robin disobeyed his Master's Order by secretly planting a homing device on Batman so that he can go to the Park and missed his chance to do so. Extra Energy for Robin, The Boy Wonder! So, he followed the trail by his own devices on his Utility Belt. Then, at Mr. Freeze hideout - the best part at his hideout is the way George (Mr. Freeze) Sanders describing the contents of Batman's Utility Belt - Batarang, Batrope, Pills, and the whole nine yards and deemed useful if you have it and Batman's don't. I just loved the way they use these bright red and blue to show what areas is hot at 75 degrees and the other area at minus 50 degree below zero. After dinner of Roast Beef ... Mr. Freeze served Baked Alaska and then Batman sprang into action knocking out Mr. Freeze and a Bat-Fight followed by 2 against 3 and the odds are even. Great Short Bat-Fight Here and then later on; Chief O'Hara could had gotten there a hour ago if he hadn't made a wrong turn on Route 49. Mr. Freeze was foiled again by the Dynamic Duo. Then, at the closing scene ... see picture of Princess Sandra, Paul Diamante, and Commissioner Gordon ... a maid came out and Aunt Harriet was excited to share what we are having for dessert and she said ... Baked Alaska!BatsA much better show than Instant Cheese because of the pace!

I'm a Sanders' Mr Freeze fan. I've always loved George Sanders; he did sophisticated villainy better than anyone and was darn good as the Saint, in the old movie series. Preminger wis a little too over the top, for me; Sanders actually seemed menacing, which gave this one a nice dual element. Even a comedy adventure needs a good villain for the comic hero and his Mr Freeze is a doozy.
