I decided to pass on Judas Contract.. it's just can't be the same with all the characer substitions, so it'll just annoy me. I felt the same way, but give it a chance. Most of the main characters from the original Wolfman/Perez story are there...Tara, Nightwing, Starfire, Changeling, Raven, Deathstroke, Brother Blood. I recommend this 100%!! One of the best DC animated movies made so far. Just saw Judas Contract. It was excellent, much better than any of the recent DCU live action movies. Could have used less pottymouth to reduce the PG-13ness of it, though.

As usual, I'm disappointed that the Apokolips War thing looks like it's just the JLA vs Thanos, I mean Darkseid, with no sign of the other New Gods characters.

Finished watching Apokolips War. Pretty satisfying final entry for that continuity of films. I really liked it. Wasn't expecting it to be that dark.

What's really funny is that this latest one makes the others seem more tame by comparison. I'm strictly talking about the DC animated films the last 7 years or so.

This really puzzles me. Marvel has been kicking DC's cinematic butt with movies that are fun instead of grim. Yet DC keeps doubling down on the darkness.

DC is animation king though, and even with some dark adaptions, Marvel can't compete in the animation arena.

I suspect Marvel could if they wanted to; the films are just so much more lucrative than the market of people looking for feature-length superhero cartoons. Filoni got hired away from cartoons to do The Mandalorian.

Need to feed your 70's craving for some funky cool grooving? Batman:Soul of the Dragon is for you. Watched it today on loan from a friend. Really gonna have to have my own copy!
You get a very Bond opening scene followed by a Bond Title sequence. A spectacular cast of voice actors aptly cast to appropriate characters. David Giuntoli as Bruce the Bat, Richard Dragon recast as Bruce Lee via Mark Dacascos. Along with team-mates Batman, Kelly Hu as Lady Shiva, Bronze Tiger with Michael Jai White playing a wonderful Jim Kelly Black Samurai tribute with James Hong as O' Sensei. Kobra and his snake cult as villainy supreme to be dealt with.
A soundtrack full of 70's vibe which cries for CD release. Fight choreography that you can actually follow without pausing to see what just occurred. You see Shiva hand a Chuck Norris wannabe his butt. A human Batman that is driven but not a dark, grim gritty asshole. One who embraces his destiny and is stronger with friends than as a loner. A splendid mix of action, martial arts, spy, mysticism and comic book adventure all in one package. Captures the beat and rhythm of the 1970's to colorful perfection.
I would so buy into an ongoing animated series of this. And this movie provides an ending that naturally and easily sets up sequel. It also shows just how GOOD a 70's based Master of Kung Fu would be. Ah, to dream the impossible dream.

And if not a sequel, I'd love to see them do a comic set in the Soul of the Dragon universe.

As I mentioned in another thread we recently added HBO Max and I have been enjoying the DC Animated movies. However the best part is the short movies that are 10-15 min episodes of the Spectre and Jonah Hex and others adapting some stories from the comics.

Those shorts from like ten or so years ago were pretty amazing, I wish they'd do more like them.

Watched Batman: The Doom that Came to Gotham tonight (a library borrow). Quite liked it. Some variances from the comic but they got the Lovecraftian element spot on.

Taking a break from Star Trek for awhile. Went back to DC animated series on Max. Watching The Batman series from the early 2000s. So far I like it. I also watched the new Superman cartoon My Adventures with Superman. It's definitely got an anime style and it's definitely light hearted. Definitely something I will watch with my grand daughters in a year.
