So much talk about the Space Phantom and he only appeared in 2 stories in the first volume of the Avengers. This is what helps make him so annoying. So he copies one body sending that person to limbo and if he copies another body that person jumps to limbo and the body in limbo suddenly reappears. How is this guy a threat? Now a whole planet of body snatchers is awesome but we only ever see or use the one Phantom ever. A one act pony with potential but never ever utilized properly.... Yeah, but that first story was awesome. He actually was responsible for the Hulk leaving. It was a great piece of Stan Lee writing to create a story that reveals how the Avengers really weren't comfortable having the Hulk on the team.

Space Phantom was - for me - in costume/powers/backstory/et al the most useless and banal antagonist in the Avenger's pantheon.

Like when he was retroactively used to erase the secret of Captain America's identity from the mind of everyone on the planet, for... reasons.

In Avengers Forever, Busiek does expand on the Phantom's origins and their true roles as shadow agents of Immortus throughout time. Like any talented writer should, Busiek doesn't alter or retcon any previous Phantom encounters, he just adds new layers and details to those encounters that shed new light upon this character(s). In fact, going by the 'secret history' revealed in this mini, the Avengers have seemingly encountered multiple Space Phantoms in disguise over the years and just never knew it. Couple that with how they were able to guide/twist the Avengers' actions per Immortus' designs and you get a newfound respect and fear for the real potential of this 'one-trick pony'.

I believe the first connection made between the Space Phantom and Immortus was made way back In Thor #281.

I've only recently begun reading classic Avengers (am up to #126). At this point, the only recurring villain I just don't get (I wouldn't even say he annoys me) is The Grim Reaper. He just doesn't seem worth the attention. But he's got a scythe for a hand!!! We're all dying to know how he goes to the toilet!!! At least he has an advantage over Razorfist from MOKF.

It's definitely Kang for me.. especially since Mark Waid seems to have an obsession with him. Ultron I feel like is practically a different character every time he's around, so he's ok.
Not a big fan of Thanos, either.. he's just too powerful.. it seems like most of his stories have to have a silly ending.

Any chance he could show that the Cyclops who recently dued was a space phantom???

The swordsman.
Also, never liked scarlet witch nor quicksilver. I know they are not Avenger villains, but still do not like them.
