It's definitely Kang for me.. especially since Mark Waid seems to have an obsession with him. Ultron I feel like is practically a different character every time he's around, so he's ok. Not a big fan of Thanos, either.. he's just too powerful.. it seems like most of his stories have to have a silly ending. It's definitely a problem with recurrent appearances of these powerful villains. Like the Mangog in Thor: his appearance in that first 4-issue story is really powerful, but none of the later ones I've seen have been very impressive. Even visually, no other artist seems to have been able to make him look as scary as Kirby and Coletta did. And to me, no Thanos story has ever been as successful from a creative POV as the the first two big Starlin epics in Captain Marvel and Warlock/Avengers - really one big story, I suppose, since he was only temporarily thwarted in the Captain Marvel one. Though I remember RR saying Starlin's recent Thanos miniseries was a return to form so I'll have to give that one a try one of these days.

I love Kang, he's my favorite supervillain. Y'all are crazy. Kang is awesome! Have you ever seen Strange Tales #134, where Kang fights the Human Torch and the Thing? It's so dumb in so many ways but you can't beat that wonderful Wally Wood art!

But he's got a scythe for a hand!!! We're all dying to know how he goes to the toilet!!! At least he has an advantage over Razorfist from MOKF. i reckon Klaw has more difficulty in the loo than Razorfist, but(t) not Grim Reaper.

I've only recently begun reading classic Avengers (am up to #126). At this point, the only recurring villain I just don't get (I wouldn't even say he annoys me) is The Grim Reaper. He just doesn't seem worth the attention. Not that it'll make you like the character any better, but Grim Reaper next appears in Avengers 160, "The Trial", which is one of the best single-issue Avengers stories ever. It also puts a spotlight on Wonder Man that might change your perception of him. I'd like to know what you think after you read it.

Yes, but he was used in Avengers Forever to fix the Crossing, so he will always have my respect He's turning out to be quite the continuity-fixing villain! Any chance he could show that the Cyclops who recently dued was a space phantom??? They do have younger Cyclops around already.. I'd imagine they'll just go with him... but I'm sure if the X-office calls, the space Phantom will be ready!

Ultron was character with much potential early on, but turned into another "end all" type of villain that's so overused in comics.
Baron Zemo was a favorite, as he was on a level of intelligence keeping him up with the times--a genuine threat to the new wave (aka Silver Age) of heroes with technological advances beyond anything he faced (or developed) during World War 2. I also loved the idea that several of Cap's villains usually turned into Avengers enemies, adding an additional level of importance to all things Cap.

Concerning Immortus, I recently had reason to ask, "In Byrne's mind, is Immortus actually Tom DeFalco?" I was recently reading Byrne's late 80s run on Avengers/West Coast Avengers for the first time, and one of the long running threads was a Dark Wanda scenario hatched by Immortus, but I also detected a note of satirical entendre in the plot and dialogue.
Basically, Immortus has been taking it upon himself to veto various possible continuities on the grounds that this is the job that his bosses gave him. He gets into battle with the Avengers while complaining that he doesn't really see himself as the bad guy. But then at the end his bosses show up and tell him that he's been doing a terrible job editing continuity, and has overstepped his bounds. After arguing with them a bit, he finds himself paralyzed, effectively relieved of duty. The heroes then give some snide asides about what happens when somebody gets too big for his britches.
This made me think of Sean Howe's "Marvel Comics: The Untold Story," which posits that the Beyonder is basically a stand-in for Jim Shooter, a nominally omnipotent being who tries to create interesting an interesting scenario for the heroes and villains to fight, only to see them all turn on him and try to usurp his benevolent plans. This in turn made me wonder whether Byrne (who started the plot threads, though Roy Thomas appears to have finished it all up) was using Immortus as a jab at Marvel editorial staff and their relationship with both the creative types below them (our heroes) and the corporate owners above them (the three keepers of eternity). I've seen and read about other examples where office politics got written into the story, so this one made me say, "Hmmm.."

That sounds very Byrne-ian, thus, I'm thinking true.

OK, I must have been thinking of something else. Although, there's nothing to prevent all these characters from having special, uh, "bathroom attachments" that are never seen.

Grim Reaper is the top of my list
Thanos has been so overused I really dislike him anymore, and his stupid Death fetish.
The Wrecking Crew really annoys me as well.
