It's kind of funny to think about Maximus's actions as being mainly motivated by a need to get rid of expensive special effects. By the end of the pilot we've abandoned a bunch of freaks and their huge dog living on the moon for some mostly normal-looking people with no dog hanging in Hawaii. They've even started ditching their costumes. I think one thing that might put people off from the show is that the Inhumans are nowhere near likable. They are arrogant, imperious and cruel. Karnak seems to revel in toying with the help, Gorgon arrogantly and stupidly exposes the Inhumans' existence, Crystal is vapid, Black Bolt's conflicts on Earth all come about because he has no concept that he can't just take what he wants and hurt anyone that gets in his way, for some examples. And Black Bolt seems to be doing a crappy job of running things as his solution to the resource crunch of living on the moon is forcing people to work themselves to death in the mines if they have inferior genetics. It's kind of hard not to see it Maximus's way, although he is obviously creepy, petty and also a bit stalkery with the women on the show. Fully agreed. It's one thing to try and write multi-layered characters who are neither completely bad or completely good, but when there's nobody to root for, it's difficult to be interested. Maximus makes a lot of sense, for all that he's a murderous twat. The Royal family are acting like aristicratic jerks, enjoying the good life while the serfs work their butt off. They deserve a good revolution! The pilot interested me enough to keep watching for the moment, but the series has several things going against it. (I was surprised by how bad the acting is for certain parts... not naming names, but some characters -and one in particular- are so bad as to be cringe-inducing.) Medusa was all right, though, once her hair was shorn... The scene where she goes all badass on Maximus's agent was pretty good. I hope we can get that level of intensity again, and more regularly. Lockjaw is cute, but the CGI is too obvious. Not sure this could justify more than a handful of episodes. |

I missed the first 45 minutes, but from what I watched I was not overall impressed. Black Bolt was pretty cool and I have no complaints with him... Ha, Crystal's hair made me laugh because it looked like someone took a can of black spray paint to it! Medusa's hair looked fake when motionless but cool when CGI was applied. The story was boring but I may watch the next episode to see if it gets better.

I watched this show on my ON DEMAND CABLE SERVICE this morning and I did not care for it at all. So, after watching the Pilot Show ... I can safely say this - I'm not interested in this at all.

I would say the acting is wildly uneven rather than uniformly bad, but yeah...Crystal really stands out. Not to be mean, but I had to check on imdb to make sure the actress had actually worked before. I see some potential for the story, though, if the currently unpleasant royal family finally realizes how shabbily it treats everybody. A similar thing happened in the comics when they were finally shamed into freeing the Alpha Primitives. Karnak is the most interesting of the lot, what with his quasi autistic qualities and his doubting long-held beliefs. |
