It was a late 70s Fantastic Four annual. I remember Franklin was on the cover and the FF were defeated. Some kind of team with occult ties were the villains--I think Anaconda was in it--was she woman that could turn her arms into snakes?

That would be Fantastic Four Annual #14; story by Wolfman, art by Perez and Marcos. I really liked that one. And yes, they fought the Salem's Seven. The woman with snakes for arms was called Reptilla (Anaconda was a different character who was a member of the Serpent Squad).

It's kinda hard for me to remember my first Marvel because my mum was buying me Spider-Man comics when I was still too young to read them myself. I had, I think, some Super Spider-Man issues as a 3 or 4 year old, but the earliest Marvel comic that I can clearly remember owning was Star Wars Weekly #18, which my mother bought me when I was 5 in mid-1978... As well as being bought Star Wars Weekly fairly regularly, I also got bought some Spider-Man and some Fantastic Four pocket books like these in 1980... However, the first proper American, colour Marvel comic I ever owned was Marvel Two-In-One #90...

The first proper comic I remember picking out and owning was Batman #250 cover dated July 1973, nearly 2 years before I got my first Marvel. I was just turning 4. I was already reading the Sunday funnies with my dad, and probably had some funny books featuring cartoon characters before that, but this was the first I picked out for myself. -M

I've mentioned this so often here, and before this on CBR, that longtime members have probably stopped reading this post already. My first comic book of any kind was Spider-Man #7, on sale in September 1963.

Now the first Marvel comic I remember was Gunhawk #7. One of my older brothers either bought it or traded for it with someone. It sticks in my mind because none of my older siblings ever read Marvel or DC Comics. There were quite a few Archies and various Gold Key books. And my oldest brother read CarToons for a while. But this is the only Marvel comic I remember until I started buying my own comics.

This was the first comic I would have read/owned....given to me by my babysitter.
The first issue I bought myself from a back issue comic shop (and the one that started it all for me getting into Spidey big time) was this:
And the first DC book I read would have been a copy of GI Combat...they were my Dads favourite.

One question my memory fails me on is what was my first Spider-Man comic. Looking at the cover galleries, nothing strikes a chord, though I'm sure it would have been something around the same time as the FF and Thor, etc, within a year or so. Maybe when I get around to reading or re-reading those early Romita-era Spider-Man comics it'll come back to me. I'm pretty sure my first issue of Daredevil was this one, which came out a few months after the Avengers, Thor, & FF comics I posted above:

Uncanny X-Men #136 Fantastic Four #177 or 184? I have a bad memory Me too, and yet I still remember this stuff. Go figure. I guess my brain can only retain the important stuff. I remember memorable issues more than 1st issues. For instance I love Batman, but recall MANY loved early issues...#260, Brave & Bold #114, etc.

Okay, in that case: I was always a sci-fi/fantasy/monsterkid. and a wee widdle Kaiju fan, and lover of bats and arachnids. So a 1000 feet tall Bat Monster was an instant 'hell yess' for me. and then the writing inside went halfway to ensuring I'd later work in comics.

I must add that though I read comics sporadically through out the 60s, there is one comic that changed everything. After that I became an avid comic fan, reader and collector. There is a defining line before and after this book for me.
