Assuming that I was actually correct in identyifing this tale: How about the one where Captain Boomerang gets punked by a gang of fake zombies? Suicide Squad #20.
If I recall correctly, Boomer was being punished by a trick because he was committing crimes as Mirror Master. Those rascals!

^ Right, Boomer had started living outside of the S-Squad compound and finally had a chance to commit a few robberies. Of course he was found out!
Speaking of the Squad, do any of you remember the one where the pie bandit was finally revealed?

For a walk down memory lane (for the Suicide Squad fans) OR for a look at what the heck we're talking about (for the folks who don't know about Task Force X), it's PIE TIME!

Next, the one where Magneto and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants got turned into babies!

Next, the one where Magneto and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants got turned into babies! Defenders 16 They were infanticized by Alpha the Ultimate Mutant, an unimaginatively-named character who developed god-like powers and (of course) turned on Magneto. Far as I know, he's never been used since; no loss.

And at the end ... Alpha turned Magneto and the evil mutants into babies! I can't believe Steve Gerber never did anything with this development. Can you imagine an issue where Howard the Duck and Bev (through a Cleveland employment agency) get a job taking care of the Evil Mutant Nursery?
Bronze Age Bedlam!

Okay, how about the one where the Human Torch let a baddie go because he maybe sorta kinda had the hots for her?
Hell, I did. Definitely hotter than her sister.

FF #43. The Torch lets Medusa get away after they beat her partners the Frightful Four. You got it, Icctrombone. I had bought a couple of issues of FF before, but I started buying it regularly w/#42. I loved this story, and I still miss Medusa as a villain.

The one where a JSA member is murdered and the killer gets away at the end of the story. That'd be Mr Terrific, killed by The Spirit King (sort of) and I think it's Justice League of America #171.
