In another thread I pointed out that I enjoyed the first 18 issues of the Wally West Flash run over all that came after it. Almost no one else talks about that run and It got me thinking about what runs or series that are not regarded as special do you like? It could be a mainstream book or something off the beaten path. An example is the Ravage series that Marvel put out for their 2099 line that is loved by wildfire2099.

So, besides Ravage....
New Warriors/Nova in the early 90s... my favorite team book at the time. I was really into Rich Rider, and the dynamic the team had was alot like the Wolfman/Perez Titans, only with cooler Marvel characters... it really worked for me. Funnily enough, a really didn't like Night Thrasher.. I always thought the book was better without him.
The whole 'Messiah Complex' storyline, and Hope Summers in particular. I know they beat it like a dead horse then beat it some more, but the I really loved the original concept of mutants having their own island, and the whole story with Bishop chasing Cable through time was awesome... I hate how they brought Bishop back to being boring... he was much cooler as a bad guy.
PAD's Aquaman... I thought the hook hand and beard were the coolest things ever as a teenager.. I read a few of them not that long ago and the story hasn't aged well, but at the time it was great. I especially recall loving the re-make of Aqualad into Tempest.

I really like some of the early '90s X-Men stuff that Fabian Nicieza wrote. He was writing the characters as humans with complex emotions and relationships as a result of their complex past histories while other X-Men writers and artists were churning out surface, comic-selling fluff.

I'll second the PAD Aquaman series. But I thought the writing was better than the artwork.

Loved Adventures of Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty, which seemed to be totally ignored at the time, and forgotten, since. Great rollicking adventure, some decent comic relief, and some nice art from Kevin Maguire (for 2 1/2 issues). Guns of the Dragon, at DC was another great one the few others ever read. Really great pulp adventure, with a nice mix of DC characters, including Bat Lash, Enemy Ace, Biff Bradly, Miss Fear, Chop-Chop and Vandal Savage. Takes place on Dinosaur Island, from The War That Time Forgot. Nice mix of Burroughs, Terry & the Pirates and similar fare.

Mine was the Adventures of the DCUniverse At the time this came out, I really enjoyed this run that was fun and easy to read and it's had that Super Friends Appeal and it's really cool seeing the SuperHeroes in this format. I had all the first 20 or so books and I had to depart them 3-5 years later because of space in my Condo (I live in a 455 square foot studio condo) and got rid of them to a dear friend of mine that let me read them - time to time. I see them about an annual basis at his house. I like these stories very much and I was so surprised to hear nobody in my LCS isn't talking about it and most of my Comic Books friends as well. I was too embarrassed to bring it up and that why I was puzzled by it. That's all I have to say about it.

Hey, CC, I loved the Adventures of the DCU title and still have the complete run. Entertaining as all get-out and I do dig the Bruce Timm-style art the most!
Cei-U! Right on, brother!

It's been many years since I read it though. I would love to see a trade or digital copy of this.

I often see people put it down, but I'm a fan of Doug Moench's and Bill Sienkiewicz's run on Fantastic Four which immediately preceded John Byrne's. Doug is one of my favorite comics writers, and yeah Bill was still in his "Neal Adams phase" at the time, but it's not as if the art is bad. It looks great!
I also love Bruce Jones' Hulk run, but people hated it so much that some writer later retconned the entire thing as a dream. (I've retconned the retcon out in my mind.) I guess I can see why people (not me) might have been impatient with it month by month as Jones was playing a long game, but in the collected form it shines.

You can add me in as a lover of Guns of the Dragon. I'm a sucker for 30s pulp books.

Probably because I didn't read many Marvels to that point, but I enjoyed Englehart's WCA and Vision/Scarlet Witch mini.

I don't think it is reviled by anyone, but I rarely see it on people's favourite lists: the Batman run that introduced Jason Todd -the first one, pre-crisis.
I loved the Newton-Alcala art, and the stories had a sense of going forward, of not denying the passage of time. Bruce Wayne was not a perennially thirty-something bachelor; he had a grown "son" in Dick, a serious love interest, and a new protégé in Jason. He was still at the top of his game, but you got the feeling that he was growing... growing older, but also wiser.
Cue the reboot! Now we'll introduce Bat-god!
