Not necessarily in favor of it, but it looks like Disney and Fox are going to eventually work this out, probably with Disney controlling content and Fox still having a stake in the profits.

Now there’s a rumor of Hugh Jackman reprising his role as Wolverine in the final Avengers movie if this gets done...
What a slap in the face to Logan if true. That movie was damn near flawless and was the perfect sendoff.

I'm surprised no one started a thread on this given the huge ramifications it could have on the comic/sci-fi/geek community, so I thought I'd get one going. Here's the latest from Variety... it looks like things getting pretty serious. variety.com/2017/biz/news/disney-fox-goldman-sachs-centerview-jp-morgan-guggenheim-partners-1202634210/The X-Men and Fantastic Four film rights returning to Marvel is huge, and the timing couldn't be better with the original iteration of the MCU wrapping up in the next couple of years. Part of me is also hoping that this means maybe we'll get a proper release of the theatrical cut of the original Star Wars trilogy in a digital format.Hear, hear. My old VHS cassettes are almost worn out. Does Lucas still hold the rights to the original trilogy or something? Even just casual Star Wars fans like myself have been screaming for a DVD/Blu Ray release of the original, unaltered trilogy for years. Disney would be guaranteed to rake in money hand over fist with an HD remaster of the originals.

My main problem with this is corporate consolidation sucks and gives us as consumers less to choose from and makes it harder from independent creators to get into the market. Eventually that damn mouse is gonna own everything! That being said the fanboy in me thinks this may be the only way we can get a good Fantastic Four movie and I'm interested in seeing the X-Characters joint he MCU as well. I don't like the fact that Disney is buying up other entertainment companies, but since it does own Marvel, I think it should own the film rights to all of its characters. I hate the fact that these rights were scattered to the wind in the 70's. And like you say, it IS the only way we'll ever get a good FF movie and I'd even go so far as to say good X-Men movie since I was never a fan of the Fox version. I'm interested to see is how the FF will be implemented if this deal works out. I admit that it's going to irk me if they're not retroactively inserted in as the first superteam. A part of me thinks that the FF might work better as a series given what they can do nowadays on The Flash and Supergirl, and of course the serialized format works so much better with the family/soap opera dynamic.

I will put my faith in the profit motive... Eventually someone at Disney and Fox will count the beans and reason that there is a demand for the original, restored but unaltered films, and we'll finally get to see the true Star Wars movies again. Well, it'll probably still be written "Episode IV : A New Hope" at the beginning of Star Wars... but I can live with that, I suppose.

Agreed Even if it does take the biggest film deal in history to make it happen, it’s still well worth it for Disney/Fox/whoever else is involved. The very day that a Blu Ray box-set is announced, pre-orders will number in the millions. No doubt in my mind. It would be virtually guaranteed to become the highest selling DVD/Blu Ray release in history.

That movie was damn near flawless and was the perfect sendoff. Jackman says "that ship has sailed". Though, Logan is set several years in the future, so there's room in the timeline. If Disney brings X-Men into the MCU, rather than leaving them in their own continuity, I think they'll re-cast - that X-Men cast is getting pretty expensive, and they'll probably want to go younger, but in current continuity, I would have thought. Hard to tell, the existing X-Men timeline is such an utter clusterfrak, who knows what would and wouldn't work.

A part of me thinks that the FF might work better as a series given what they can do nowadays on The Flash and Supergirl, and of course the serialized format works so much better with the family/soap opera dynamic. That's an interesting idea - not sure that a TV budget could cope with decent F4 effects, but OTOH, it would avoid the whole "toxic movie property" issue. Maybe to kick-start the Disney streaming service. Or on Hulu, as they're apparently going to end up owning 60% of that, as part of the Fox deal. If they went that way, it's a shame that Inhumans (regardless of how utterly crap their series was) are at ABC, as they would both wrap together into F4, with the Kree from Agents of SHIELD as well. On the 3rd hand, hard to imagine Marvel giving up Dr Doom to TV instead of film, even after 3 absolutely disastrous appearances in the F4 films... though, on the 4th hand (!) he could be a background mastermind villain for a TV series and not have to counter the terrible film versions. I suppose that if Marvel can ignore everything that came before with Spider-Man, they could do the same with the F4, though the preceeding Sony Spider-Man films weren't as bad as the F4 films (though....Spider-Man 3.... and Amazing Spider-Man 2...)

Inhumans and SHIELD are at ABC because it is under the Disney umbrella of companies as well (as are the ESPN networks hence the synergy between ESPN and ABC sports coverage. If They wanted to use concepts or characters from either show in an FF show they could. -M

Ooh, didn't realise (or had forgotten) that ABC was part of Disney. Jeez, what is there that won't be part of Disney after this deal?

Looks like it went through today, the good morning america clip I saw didn't talk about Marvel so details don't seem to be clear just yet.

I really hope they recast all of the new X-Men with the exception of Quicksilver.
The rest of them have the charisma and appeal of a wet bag of noodles.
