Jan Duursema, Becky Cloonan, Carla Speed McNeil, Jill Thompson, Tajanta Wood (colorist), Laura Martin (colorist), Laura Allred (colorist), June Brigman, Rachel Dodson (inker), Pia Guerra, Fiona Staples, Cynthia Martin, Glynis Oliver (colorist), Nicola Scott, Sara Pichelli, Melinda Gebbie, and more if you look. The sad part is you do have to go looking. -M Duh. For some reason, up above I mistakenly referred to her first name as "Ramona." Had R. Fradon on my mind, obviously. Also supremely talented but not yet mentioned -- Shary Flenniken.

Amanda Conner Sarah Pichelli are good, but Fay Dalton would be my favorite. (Sorry, about the size)

Nothing to see here. I answered in the other thread instead.

Marie Severin would probably be my number one. Amanda Connor, among more recent artists.
Julie Doucet's style, like that of a lot of underground or independents, may be a bit of an acquired taste but I think it works very well for the kind of story she writes.

I really liked Nicola Scotts stuff. I like Nicola too ... What I'm looking forward is to see David Finch does to Wonder Woman ...

Finch is starting to remind me more and more of those Jim Lee style comics artists I dislike. There's a bunch of them and they all look much the same to me.

One of my faves...Dave Stevens. He would have been a shoo-in for variant covers if he was still alive. Worst. Rob Liefeld. Next.

favorite female comic artists are probably Ramona Fradon, MK brown and Sherry Flenniken. Also Carol Lay and Lilly Renee (thanks for the reminder).
Without being too up on things post 1999, I tend to find that the female artists in mainstream comics as a group tend to have a higher batting average than their male counterparts--I'd probably rank Jill Thomson, Colleen Duran, Amanda Connor higher than most artists who started working in the 80s.
I was never a big fan of Lynda Barry's or Mary Fleener's art, though I enjoy reading a lot of their work.
Also need to recognize Lynn Johnston--For Better or Worse is/was (is it still in reruns?) one of the best-drawn strips to appear after 1970.
Not comics, but Stephanie Buscema does some really great work. I think her dad did a couple things for Marvel.

Have you seen the variant covers Stephanie Buscema does for some of the publishers-she does a Red Sonja cover each month and has done some for Archie, My Little Pony and others.... here's a sample Red Sonja cover from her.... I like the cartoony stylings she uses. -M

I never knew big John had a daughter in the biz. Does she do any straight up art or is it all cartoony ?

I never knew big John had a daughter in the biz. Does she do any straight up art or is it all cartoony ? Everything I have seen from her is in that signature cartoony style. And she is big John's granddaughter I believe, not daughter. You can check out her art at her art blog-M
